Heavy snow continued to swirl endlessly, spreading like a vast white net that shrouded the entire land in silence and vastness.
Mo Shuang held the swaddled infant in her arms. Lightly tapping her toes against the ground, her figure turned into a blurry white shadow, darting swiftly across the rugged snow. The cold wind bit like a knife, scraping against her pale yet breathtakingly beautiful face, carrying a bone-chilling coldness—but her gaze was even colder than the storm itself.
Inside her body, that newly awakened power still surged and roared. Purple energy flowed through her meridians like a living thing, rapidly healing and strengthening her previously shattered Dantian and channels at an incredible speed. She could clearly feel that her current state was thousands of times stronger than when she was once hailed as the "genius" Xu Qingci.
This was the power of the Ancient Demon Vein—domineering, unruly, unbound by the laws of heaven and earth, answering only to one’s own heart, born solely from hatred and obsession.
"Don’t be afraid, little one. Mother is here—no one will hurt you," Mo Shuang whispered. Looking down at the peacefully sleeping face in her arms, her originally icy heart instantly softened with tenderness. She pulled the baby closer to her chest, and a gentle demonic energy naturally radiated outward, forming a faint purple barrier that tightly protected the child, shielding them from the freezing cold and any prying eyes.
At that moment, from the depths of the snowstorm behind her came the sound of hurried, chaotic footsteps, along with countless sharp whistles of cutting air!
"There she is! Don’t let that witch escape!"
"Elder Xu has ordered: this woman has fallen into darkness and is a fiend—kill her on sight! Retrieve the Xu Clan’s Secret Scripture, and you shall be richly rewarded!"
"She was just a cripple whose Dantian was shattered—even if she wields demonic power, how strong could she possibly be? Seize her!"
Amidst their arrogant shouts, dozens of figures rushed out from the swirling snow, fanning out to surround her. They were all disciples of immortal sects, dressed in matching white robes, their swords glinting coldly—exactly the same group that had taken part in the earlier siege of the Xu Clan.
Leading them was a middle-aged cultivator with a sinister expression—Xu Tu, a branch elder of the Xu Clan and Xu Jiaojiao’s trusted confidant. At the sight of Mo Shuang’s striking white hair and eerie purple eyes, greed and wariness flashed across his face, quickly replaced by cruelty. "Xu Qingci! For the sake that you were once the direct descendant of the Xu Clan, surrender willingly, hand over the Longevity Secret Scripture, and cripple your own Demon Vein. I may yet grant you a whole corpse!"
Mo Shuang halted abruptly.
She turned slowly. Her white hair whipped wildly in the gale, and her purple eyes burned with freezing cold, as if countless thunderstorms were brewing within. She showed not the slightest fear despite being outnumbered; instead, she curved her lips into a frosty smile, as if hearing the greatest joke in the world.
"Xu Qingci?" Her voice was soft, yet carried clearly through the wind, tinged with the indifference of one looking down upon ants. "From this day forth, there is no more Xu Qingci. The one you seek to capture and kill is me—Mo Shuang."
"And as for the Xu Clan..." Her gaze swept over those who had once been her clansmen, those proud cultivators of the immortal path, and her killing intent surged like a tangible wave. "From the moment you betrayed your own clan, aided tyrants, and raised your hands against the elderly and the young, the Xu Clan ceased to exist."
"How dare you speak such nonsense!" Xu Tu felt a chill run down his spine under her gaze, but quickly flushed with rage and shouted, "A fiend is still a fiend—how dare you boast! Attack! Kill her, take her demon core, and present it to the Immortal Alliance!"
At his command, dozens of disciples struck at once. Swords of light swirled into an impenetrable net, sharp and deadly, aiming straight for Mo Shuang’s vital points from all directions.
In their eyes, Mo Shuang was merely a woman who had just awakened her power and had yet to master it—burdened with a child, her movements would surely be slowed. This strike was guaranteed to succeed.
But the next second, they witnessed what true overwhelming power meant.
Faced with the storm of blades, Mo Shuang did not even shift her feet. She merely lifted her eyes slightly; her purple pupils blazed with light, and a devastating pressure erupted like a tidal wave!
"Leave."
One single word, spoken casually, yet crashing like thunder!
A deep purple shockwave exploded outward from her. The flying swords, which had seemed unstoppable, shattered like thin ice the moment they touched the energy!
The disciples holding them were thrown back as if struck by a massive force, screaming as they crashed heavily into the snow, coughing up blood and unable to stand.
With but a glance and a single word, dozens of cultivators were utterly defeated!
Xu Tu was terrified beyond belief, his face as pale as paper as he stumbled backward. "Th-this is some dark magic! How could you possibly possess such power?!"
He could never understand how the gifted young woman they had once trampled upon and whose cultivation they had destroyed could, in just one day, become so terrifying—so powerful that he could not even summon the will to resist.
Mo Shuang walked slowly toward him. The snow beneath her feet cracked and crunched under invisible pressure. With every step she took, Xu Tu felt death drawing closer, and fear coiled around his heart like a venomous snake, nearly suffocating him.
"D-don’t come any closer! Young Master Xuan Yu and Miss Jiaojiao are right behind, along with the full forces of the Immortal Alliance! If you kill me, you will never escape!" Xu Tu shouted in a trembling, bluffing voice, fumbling in his robes to pull out a signal flare, ready to crush it and call for help.
Mo Shuang’s killing intent deepened. She was about to strike and end this shameless coward—when the infant in her arms stirred softly, seemingly sensing her rage.
That split-second distraction was all it took for disaster to strike!
A streak of pitch-black energy suddenly shot forth from the depths of the snowstorm, aimed directly at the baby in her arms. It carried a sinister, venomous force—clearly unleashed by a powerful expert who had long been lying in wait, far stronger than Xu Tu.
Mo Shuang’s eyes widened in shock; it was too late to turn and block it!
At this critical moment—
The snowstorm swelled violently, and all light in the world seemed to be swallowed whole.
A tall, imposing figure stepped out from the ancient darkness, appearing silently before Mo Shuang. With a casual wave of his sleeve, that deadly strike—capable of shattering metal and stone—dissolved like a stone dropped into the ocean, leaving not even a ripple.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
The wind and snow slowly settled, leaving only that solitary, powerful silhouette standing tall.
He wore a black silk robe embroidered with subtle patterns that swirled like the stars in the sky, yet also resembled the depths of an abyss. His long black hair was tied back simply with a jade hairpin, the rest falling loosely over his shoulders, blending into the falling snow. Standing there with his hands behind his back, he seemed to be the very center of heaven and earth, radiating a majesty and indifference that towered above all living things.
The man turned slowly.
His face was so handsome it could outshine the sun and moon, yet so cold it could freeze the very air. His features were deep and sharp, perfectly sculpted—yet distant, keeping all at bay. Most striking were his eyes: dark as night, bottomless, holding a universe of stars yet seeming empty of all emotion. Only when they fell upon Mo Shuang did the slightest ripple stir, soft enough to melt frost.
His gaze swept over the groaning cultivators and the trembling Xu Tu. His tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable weight of absolute dominance:
"Take your men and leave."
Three simple words, yet they sounded like an edict from the abyss, carrying a terrifying pressure that made their very souls tremble.
Xu Tu, already paralyzed with fear, scrambled to his feet and fled without daring to utter a single threat, nor even lift his eyes to glance at the man in black. He led his remaining followers and vanished in haste into the snow.
The danger passed, and silence returned once more, save for the howling wind.
Mo Shuang stepped back warily, holding her child close, her purple eyes fixed firmly upon this mysterious stranger. She could clearly sense that he possessed no immortal energy—indeed, he seemed entirely out of harmony with the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. This power was older, purer, and far more terrifying than even her own Demon Vein.
It belonged neither to immortals nor mortals—but to something that stood above all else: the power of a Demon Lord.
"Who are you?" Mo Shuang asked, her voice cold. She channeled her demonic energy to its peak, ready to strike at any moment. "Why save me?"
The man looked at her white hair, her resilient purple eyes, and the peacefully sleeping child in her arms. Deep within his frosty gaze, something slowly began to thaw.
He took a step forward, unaffected by the sharp demonic energy swirling around her. His voice was steady, yet filled with a conviction that stirred the heart:
"My name is Ye Xuan."
"The world rejects you—I shall accept you."
"All seek your death—I shall protect you."
He extended his hand, his fingertips glowing with a gentle warmth, and brushed lightly against the baby’s forehead. His voice was low and tender, as if making a vow that would last ten thousand lifetimes:
"Step behind me with the child. From this day forward—your vengeance, I shall help you claim. Your path, I shall walk beside you. Across the Ten Realms and all immortal sects—if anyone dares harm you or your child again..."
Ye Xuan raised his eyes, gazing toward the distant heavens ruled by the Immortal Alliance. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and his voice carried the arrogance to shake heaven and earth:
"I shall tear open the sky, shatter the earth, and wipe this false order of immortals from existence forever."
Amidst the falling snow, for the first time, Mo Shuang’s heart was stirred like a stormy sea.
She looked upon this man who had descended like a deity, and into his eyes—deep and bright, as if shining only for her. The ice that had sealed her purple eyes slowly began to crack...
