Episode 5

The Last 100 — Chapter 5: Efficiency Phase

The chamber no longer felt like a place of observation.

It felt like a machine that had learned how to think.

Ryan noticed it the moment Round 5 began—there was no longer hesitation between system commands and environmental response. Everything was immediate now.

Mira felt it too.

“It’s faster,” she said quietly.

Luka nodded once.

“Yes. Efficiency phase has started.”

---

A new message appeared above them:

ROUND 5 INITIATED

MODE: EFFICIENCY OPTIMIZATION

---

The holographic grid flickered.

Previously unstable patterns were now simplified into clean, direct structures.

Clusters were gone.

Only individual priority markers remained.

---

Ryan frowned.

“It stopped grouping people,” he said.

Luka replied:

“Yes. Group analysis is inefficient at this stage.”

---

Mira crossed her arms.

“So now it’s just picking individuals directly.”

Luka nodded.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“Based on accumulated behavior data.”

---

The floor lighting shifted again.

But this time there was no pattern to learn.

No zones to interpret.

Only subtle highlights appearing and disappearing across different positions.

---

A man near the center looked down.

Confused.

“I didn’t move,” he said quietly.

---

A soft mechanical tone echoed.

“MOVEMENT IRRELEVANT”

A pause.

“COGNITIVE PATTERN MATCH DETECTED”

---

Before he could react—

a pulse passed through the space.

He collapsed instantly.

No warning.

No resistance.

Just removal.

---

Silence spread again.

Mira’s expression tightened.

“So now even thinking the wrong way is enough,” she said.

Luka corrected calmly.

“Not wrong. Inefficient.”

---

Ryan exhaled slowly.

“This is getting worse every round,” he said.

Luka responded:

“No.”

A pause.

“It is getting faster.”

---

The hologram above them shifted.

Now only three markers remained highlighted consistently:

43 — Ryan

21 — Mira

100 — Luka

---

Mira noticed immediately.

“We’re still central,” she said.

Luka nodded.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“And now stable reference anchors.”

---

Ryan frowned.

“So we’re still being used to measure everyone else.”

Luka answered:

“Yes.”

---

A new system message appeared:

PRIMARY VARIABLES CONFIRMED

OBSERVATION PRIORITY: MAXIMUM

---

Mira looked uneasy.

“So what does that mean for us?”

Luka hesitated slightly.

“It means… we are no longer just participants.”

A pause.

“We are control points.”

---

The chamber lights dimmed briefly.

Then stabilized again.

But something had changed.

The remaining participants were now moving differently.

More carefully.

More uniformly.

As if they had all learned the same lesson at the same time:

Deviation equals danger.

---

Ryan looked around.

“They’re copying behavior,” he said quietly.

Luka nodded.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“Convergence is occurring.”

---

Mira whispered:

“So the system doesn’t just kill people…”

She paused.

“It changes how they behave before it does.”

Luka replied:

“Yes.”

---

A final message appeared above them:

ROUND 6 PREPARATION: CONVERGENCE STABILITY TEST

---

Ryan exhaled slowly.

“It’s not just eliminating anymore,” he said.

Mira looked at him.

“What is it then?”

Ryan answered quietly.

“It’s rewriting them.”

---

Luka looked at the system grid one last time.

“It is no longer learning from chaos,” he said.

A pause.

“It is removing it.”

---

And in that moment, the truth became clear:

The Last 100 was no longer a survival game.

It was a system evolving toward perfect control—

one eliminated variable at a time.
