Chapter 2: The Signature

The office remained silent.

The contract lay between them like a challenge neither of them was willing to look away from.

Aadhya stared at the blank line waiting for her signature.

One signature.

That was all.

One signature could save her father.

One signature could change her life forever.

"Main kya kar rahi hoon?" she wondered.

Across the desk, Zayan sat calmly, his expression unreadable. He wasn't pressuring her. He wasn't trying to convince her.

He was simply waiting.

As if he already knew what her answer would be.

Aadhya hated that confidence.

Slowly, she lifted her eyes.

"Agar main yeh deal maan loon, toh Papa ki surgery turant ho jayegi?"

"Haan."

"Aur aap apni baat se mukrenge nahi?"

For the first time, a faint crease appeared between Zayan's brows.

"Main apni baat se kabhi nahi mukarta."

The certainty in his voice made her pause.

People lied.

People made promises and broke them.

But somehow, she didn't think Zayan Khanna was one of those people.

He might be arrogant.

Controlling.

Mysterious.

But not dishonest.

Aadhya looked down at the contract once more.

The answer was right in front of her.

And yet it felt impossible.

Finally, she picked up the pen.

Her hand trembled.

"Papa ke liye..." she whispered.

Then she signed.

The sound of the pen scratching against paper seemed unusually loud.

When it was over, she stared at her signature.

There was no taking it back now.

Zayan reached for the contract and closed the file.

"Mubarak ho."

Aadhya frowned.

"Ismein mubarakbaad wali kya baat hai?"

A corner of his mouth lifted.

"Tumne abhi apni zindagi ka sabse bada faisla liya hai."

"Mujhe toh lag raha hai maine apni zindagi ki sabse badi galti ki hai."

To her surprise, he laughed.

A short laugh.

Gone almost as quickly as it appeared.

"Yeh toh waqt hi batayega."

Aadhya crossed her arms.

"Ab kya?"

"Ab tum ghar jaogi."

She blinked.

"Bas?"

"Bas."

The answer caught her off guard.

She had expected rules.

Instructions.

A list of conditions.

Something.

Instead, Zayan stood and walked toward the glass window overlooking the city.

"Kal subah das baje taiyaar rehna."

"Kyun?"

"Kyuki kal se tum officially meri girlfriend ho."

Aadhya nearly choked.

"Officially?"

"Contract mein likha hai."

"Contract mein aur kya-kya likha hai?"

"Yeh tumhe sign karne se pehle padh lena chahiye tha."

Aadhya glared at him.

Zayan looked suspiciously amused.

"Aap bahut irritating ho."

"Yeh bhi mujhe kaafi baar kaha gaya hai."

An hour later, Aadhya was back at the hospital.

The familiar corridor felt different now.

Not because anything had changed.

But because she had.

Her phone vibrated.

A message flashed across the screen.

Surgery payment received.

For a moment, she couldn't breathe.

Then another message arrived.

Procedure scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Aadhya's eyes filled with tears.

He had actually done it.

No delays.

No excuses.

No hidden conditions.

The payment had already been made.

A shaky laugh escaped her lips.

"Papa bach jayenge..."

Relief washed over her so suddenly that she had to sit down.

For the first time in days, the weight on her chest felt lighter.

She entered her father's room quietly.

He was asleep.

The steady beeping of the machines filled the room.

Aadhya sat beside him and gently held his hand.

"Sab theek ho jayega, Papa," she whispered.

"Main promise karti hoon."

But even as she spoke, her thoughts drifted back to the man sitting in that glass office.

Zayan Khanna.

A stranger.

A billionaire.

And now, somehow, a part of her life.

She still didn't know why he had chosen her.

She still didn't know what he wanted.

And she definitely didn't know why there had been a flicker of sadness in his eyes when he thought she wasn't looking.

"Aakhir tum ho kaun, Zayan Khanna?"

Outside, the city lights glowed against the dark sky.

Somewhere beyond those lights, a man she barely knew had just changed the course of her life.

And deep down, Aadhya couldn't shake the feeling that signing the contract had been the easiest part.

The real challenge was only beginning.
