Volume 1 Chapter 5 "THE GHOSTS OF SINCLAIRE"

...𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘐...

...𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘋𝘪𝘦...

Three days passed.

The city moved on.

Newspapers forgot the abandoned mansion.

The police closed the investigation.

Officially, nothing unusual had happened.

Unofficially...

someone had erased every trace.

The bloodstains vanished.

The reports disappeared.

Even the photographs taken by investigators could no longer be found.

As though an invisible hand had reached into history and quietly rewritten it.

Only Elior remembered.

Every night he found himself staring at the brass key resting beside his bed.

Sleep no longer came easily.

Dreams did.

Flames.

Broken windows.

Children running through smoke.

A woman kneeling before him with tears in her eyes.

She reached toward him, whispering words he could never hear.

Every dream ended the same way.

A silver chess king falling onto marble.

Then darkness.

Morning arrived with rain.

Lucien watched Elior step into the office carrying the exhaustion of someone who hadn't slept in days.

He said nothing.

Instead, he quietly placed a fresh cup of coffee beside him.

The warmth rose between them.

For a brief second, the world felt normal again.

Then Elior's phone vibrated.

Unknown Number.

One photograph.

Nothing else.

The image showed an old cemetery hidden beneath heavy fog.

At its center stood a weathered gravestone.

The name engraved upon it stole the air from his lungs.

ISABELLE SINCLAIRE

Date of death:

Fifteen years ago.

A second message arrived.

"Some graves are empty."

The screen went black.

The message deleted itself.

Elior stood abruptly.

His chair scraped across the floor.

Several employees looked up in surprise.

Lucien did not ask a question.

He simply picked up his coat.

"I'm driving."

Elior looked at him.

"...I didn't ask."

Lucien opened the office door.

"You didn't have to."

For the first time since the mystery began...

Elior wasn't alone.

...𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘐𝘐...

...𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘌𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵...

The cemetery lay on the edge of the city.

Forgotten.

Silent.

The gates had rusted shut years ago.

Wild flowers covered the paths.

No visitors remained.

Only memories.

The gravestone from the photograph stood exactly where it should be.

Covered in moss.

Half-buried beneath time.

Lucien brushed away the dirt.

The inscription became clear.

ISABELLE SINCLAIRE

Beloved Mother.

Beloved Daughter.

Beloved Lie.

Elior froze.

That final line had been carved into stone.

Not by nature.

By human hands.

His fingers traced the letters.

The earth beneath the grave felt strangely loose.

Someone had dug here recently.

Before either of them could speak...

a slow clap echoed through the fog.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

An elderly man stepped from behind the trees.

His suit looked decades old.

His silver hair moved gently in the wind.

His eyes carried the weight of too many funerals.

Victor.

At last.

He looked at Elior for a long moment.

Not with hatred.

Not with pity.

But with recognition.

"So..."

he whispered,

"...you came home."

Lucien instinctively stepped forward.

Victor raised a single hand.

"If you value his life..."

"...do not interrupt."

Silence swallowed the cemetery.

Even the wind seemed to stop.

Victor looked toward Isabelle's grave.

Then back at Elior.

"The dead are kinder than the living."

"They never lie."

From inside his coat, he removed a worn photograph.

It showed a smiling woman holding the hand of a small child.

The child was Elior.

Victor gently placed the photograph upon the gravestone.

Then he smiled sadly.

"You've spent fifteen years searching for your family."

His eyes grew distant.

"You never realized..."

"...they've been searching for you too."

The church bell rang once.

Fog rolled across the cemetery.

When Elior blinked—

Victor was gone.

No footsteps.

No sound.

Only the photograph remained.

And beneath it...

a second brass key.

Engraved not with IV.

But with a single word.

ARCHIVE.
