Riya and Ayan sat down at a quiet wooden table near the back of the library. Outside, the rain started pouring heavily again, but the warm yellow light of the library lamp made everything feel cozy.
Ayan: "Are you still feeling cold, Riya? You are shivering."
Riya: "A little bit. But your denim jacket is really helping. Thank you."
Ayan: "Wait here for a few minutes. Don't go anywhere."
Before Riya could ask, Ayan stood up and walked out of the reading room. After ten minutes, he came back holding two warm paper cups. A sweet aroma of milk tea filled the air.
Ayan: "Here, I found a small tea machine near the hallway. Drink this."
Riya: "Wow, thank you so much! You are so thoughtful, Ayan."
Ayan: "It's nothing. I just didn't want my new friend to get sick."
Riya took a sip of the warm tea. It tasted amazing, and she could feel the coldness disappearing from her hands. She looked at Ayan, who was staring out the glass window at the rain.
Riya: "So, Ayan, why did you choose the literature department?"
Ayan: "Because books don't lie. They hold beautiful worlds inside them."
Riya: "That is beautiful. My favorite writer is Rabindranath Tagore. What about you?"
Ayan: "I love his poems too! Especially the ones about rain and longing."
Riya: "We really have a lot of things in common, don't we?"
Ayan: "Yes, we do. Maybe it wasn't an accident that we met under that awning."
Riya felt her heart skip a beat again. She looked down at her tea cup, trying to hide her blushing face.
Ayan: "By the way, Riya, do you come to this library every day?"
Riya: "Mostly on rainy days. I love reading while listening to the raindrops."
Ayan: "Then I hope it rains every single day from now on."
Riya: "Why is that?"
Ayan: "Because then I will get to see you here every day."
Riya's eyes widened in surprise. Ayan smiled gently, his eyes filled with absolute sincerity. The silence between them didn't feel awkward at all; it felt like the beginning of a sweet melody.
Ayan looked down at his watch and realized it was getting late. The light outside the window was fading, and the library would close soon.
Riya: "The time went by so fast today. I didn't even notice."
Ayan: "That happens when you are spending time with someone special."
Riya: "Am I someone special to you already, Ayan?"
Ayan: "Yes, Riya. I think you became special the moment you stepped under my umbrella."
Riya smiled softly, her heart doing happy flips. She packed her books into her bag, feeling a little sad that the afternoon was ending.
Ayan: "Let me walk you to the bus stop, Riya. It is still drizzling a bit."
Riya: "Are you sure? I don't want to trouble you anymore."
Ayan: "It is never a trouble to walk with you. Let's go."
They stood up together and walked towards the exit door of the library. As they stepped outside, the cool evening breeze hit their faces. Ayan opened his big umbrella once again, holding it carefully over Riya's head.
Riya: "Thank you for today, Ayan. This was the best rainy day of my life."
Ayan: "Mine too, Riya. And remember, we are meeting here again tomorrow at four PM."
Riya: "I won't forget. See you tomorrow, Ayan!"
Ayan watched her safely get onto the bus, waving his hand with a bright smile. This rainy afternoon was officially over, but their beautiful love story had just begun.
