Chapter 5: The Girl Who Watched the Stars
Rome, Italy.
The city glowed beneath the evening sky.
Ancient buildings stood proudly beside busy streets. Tourists filled the plazas. Music drifted from nearby cafés.
And high above it all, on the rooftop of an apartment building, Luna Moretti stared at the stars.
She always did.
Since she was little, the night sky had fascinated her.
While other children dreamed of becoming famous athletes or actors, Luna dreamed of discovering something hidden among the stars.
Her telescope stood beside her.
A notebook rested on her lap.
The pages were filled with calculations, star charts, and sketches.
Most people thought she was unusual.
She didn't mind.
The stars had always understood her better than people.
A sudden vibration interrupted her thoughts.
Her phone lit up.
Unknown Number.
Luna frowned.
She almost ignored it.
Almost.
Then she opened the message.
THE STARS ARE MOVING.
Luna sat upright.
A second message appeared.
THE FIRST THREE HAVE AWAKENED.
Her heartbeat quickened.
"What?"
A third message followed.
ROME IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
Then the messages disappeared.
Completely.
As if they had never existed.
Luna stared at the screen.
Confused.
Concerned.
Curious.
Very curious.
The next morning...
A private jet landed at a small airport outside Rome.
Three excited teenagers stepped onto the runway.
Alessia.
Noah.
Sienna.
Their first mission.
Their first clue.
Their first real adventure.
Noah adjusted his backpack.
"I still can't believe Matteo actually helped us."
Sienna grinned.
"He definitely knows more than he's telling us."
"That's a family tradition."
Alessia replied.
The three climbed into a rental car waiting for them.
Officially, they were visiting Rome for "educational sightseeing."
Unofficially...
They were hunting mysteries.
A few hours later, they arrived at the astronomy academy where Luna studied.
Students filled the courtyard.
Groups talked between classes.
Teachers crossed the campus.
Everything looked normal.
Which somehow made the mystery feel even stranger.
Sienna held up the photograph from the library.
"There."
The others followed her gaze.
A girl sat beneath a tree reading a book.
Dark curls.
Golden-brown eyes.
The same girl from the photograph.
Luna Moretti.
The girl who watched the stars.
Alessia smiled.
"We found her."
Noah immediately looked nervous.
"What exactly is our plan?"
Alessia blinked.
"We talk to her."
"That's the whole plan?"
"Mostly."
Sienna laughed.
"I like it."
Noah sighed dramatically.
Of course they liked it.
The three approached.
Luna noticed them immediately.
Which was strange.
Because she somehow looked surprised.
As though she had been expecting them.
Nobody spoke for a moment.
Then Luna closed her book.
"You're late."
Silence.
The three froze.
"What?"
Alessia asked.
Luna stood.
"I expected you yesterday."
Nobody moved.
Nobody blinked.
Noah finally found his voice.
"You know who we are?"
Luna nodded.
"Not exactly."
A pause.
"But I knew you'd come."
The air suddenly felt very different.
Alessia exchanged a glance with Sienna.
Neither liked how mysterious this was becoming.
Actually, they loved it.
Which was probably a problem.
Luna reached into her bag.
Then pulled out a folded piece of paper.
A map.
An old map.
Very old.
The moment Alessia saw it, she recognized the compass symbol.
The same symbol from Aeternum.
The same symbol from the hidden chamber.
The same symbol from the letter.
Noah's eyes widened.
"Where did you get that?"
Luna hesitated.
Then answered honestly.
"My grandmother gave it to me before she died."
Silence.
"She told me that one day people would come looking for it."
Another pause.
"And that when they arrived, I should trust them."
The four teenagers stared at one another.
Because somehow...
Their lives had just become connected.
Far more connected than any of them understood.
Then Luna unfolded the map completely.
At its center was a compass.
Around it were six empty circles.
One of the circles suddenly began glowing faintly.
Then another.
Then another.
The four teenagers watched in stunned silence.
Because four circles were now shining.
Only two remained dark.
The map knew.
Somehow...
The map knew.
And somewhere far away, hidden beneath another city, another clue waited.
Along with two teenagers who had no idea they were about to become part of something much bigger than themselves.
