Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - new story

Next story begins in 60 minutes.]

The screen lit up in front of Solvyr’s closed eyes, he woke up at the sound and light. His eyes searched for his usual environment. His old cranky bed, his dirty walls and ceiling. Then he remembered, he wasn’t at home, he wasn’t at work, he blacked out at an unfamiliar place, that he visited only once, and to deliver a box he knew nothing about.

[Please prepare for the next story.]

“Can you answer my questions?” Solvyr asked, as he got up from the ground. There were no people in sight.

[What would your question be?] The system asked right away.

“What is happening?” he aksed, even though he knew the answer.

[Your home, Earth, has been found with story-plays, it is a kind of story you need to clear in order to survive.]

“Does someone watch this play?” his voice was stern, not scared, not tired, he just woke up from his best sleep in years.

[Yes, the Stars watch your plays.]

“Who are those Stars?” he tried to get more information about the Stars.

[They are the viewers.]

[They watch as you all struggle to survive.]

The system window was surprisingly honest.

“Will they kill us, if they don’t like us?” this question was his important one.

[No, Stars cannot decide the fate of players.]

“Who can?” after this question, the system stayed quiet.

[This question cannot be answered, it is far too great an information for a mere player.]

“On whose side are you?” Solvyr was getting impatient with his questions, he knew the answers, but wanted to be sure.

[No one’s, I am merely a system meant for entertainment.]

“So you aren’t on players’s side?”

Ding...Ding...Ding…

[I am not on their side, I only keep Player...accompany.]

“What does that mean?”

[Error...error...this information is sealed.]

[The system will now rest.]

Solvyr didn’t think the system needed to rest, but he let it be. He got to know some answers, however, he wasn’t sure, what some of them meant.

“I am in London, but not only here, but in the whole world have these disasters star happening.” he sighed, he finally stood up, he looked around properly this time.

“There doesn’t seem to be anyone here, also, the system window said that the next play will begin in an hour.” he rubbed his eyes, suddenly, he felt tired again, maybe because he had to think hard about it, but his legs wanted to give out.

“Okay, let’s take this easy, I need to find some other people.” he started walking towards the doors, he knew the outside world might be dangerous, but he couldn’t stay here either.

“I wonder, where the young woman went earlier.” he thought about the blond woman from before, she was scared for her life and ran deeper into the building.

The outside was covered in dead bodies and blood, Solvyr found this sight disgusting, but not enough to throw up.

“Gross, those monsters really did their job.” he scoffed, he found this whole thing insane.

“I need to go towards the center.” and as he said, he did.

[Alert, the next play will take place in the center of London, the Charing Cross.]

Solvyr looked at the shining window, as if it read his mind.

“Really?” he scoffed, the thought of ruin over that place was...weird.

“How much time until the start?” Solvyr looked at his phone, dead.

[35 minutes.]

The system was interestingly obedient.

“How long until I get to the center?”

[20 minutes.]

“Okay, I can make do with that.” Solvyr had no playing experience, but he heard a lot from his schoolmates and other people.

“I don’t know much about this, but I will survive, whatever it takes.” he clenched his fist and walked ahead to his second play.

He already knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he refused to stop fighting, for his mother, for his own life, that he wanted to end so many times.

[Player 568 killed Player 997.]

Solvyr’s heart fell down his chest, he stared at the blue system window, his gray blue eyes wide with terror and something like...disgust.

“They started killing each other, why?” Solvyr asked the system, his eyes glued to the words.

[The second play startedn in Tokyo, Japan.]

[The play consists of killing living beings.]

“Does that mean, I’ll have to kill other player as well, in the next play?”

[The plays are different across the world.]

“So, you know about the next play? What is it about?”

[Confidential information.]

“Thought so.” Solvyr shook his head, he was relieved he didn’t have to kill other players, but he knew, that his play could be even worse.

His legs moved stiffly, he didn’t want to see the play, but he had to.

“Oh,” something clicked in his mind, “What happens, if I don’t go to the center and participate in the play?”

[There might be a penalty for not participating, however, you might have better chances at survival.]

“So, it’s not forbidden?”

[No, the participation is all Player’s decision.]

[However, no outcome is promised.]

Solvyr nodded, he wasn’t planning on not participating, he just wanted to know. As Solvyr walked the streets, he noticed the destroyed buildings, the fire and smoke, dead bodies, more than he could ever count.

“Will I end up like this, as well?” he asked, more to himself than anyone else.

But the screen popped out in front of Solvyr’s eyes.

[Player...will not end up like this.]

[Player...is under…]

[Player...has a certain fate…]

[Solvyr Nytherion cannot die, you cannot die here, you have a purpose...error...error...]
