The Sidewalk Curtain

The heavy glass doors of the lounge closed behind them, instantly cutting off the thumping bass. The sky had completely opened up. A violent summer downpour slammed into the concrete streets, the heavy sheets of rain instantly blurring the bright neon signs of the city. Thunder rumbled deeply in the distance, echoing off the skyscrapers.

V stepped out into the open air and gasped softly. The icy rain drenched his thin shirt within seconds, clinging to his skin and making him shiver violently. He wrapped his arms around himself, his head dropping as the cold water mixed with his warm tears.

It's freezing, V muttered, his teeth chattering as he looked around frantically for a passing taxi.

Maybe this was a bad idea. I should just go home.

Before tae could take a step toward the street, a firm hand gripped his wrist. JK pulled him back gently but with undeniable strength. V stumbled forward, his chest colliding right against JK’s broad, warm chest. JK didn't run for a taxi. Instead, he wrapped his arms securely around V’s waist, anchoring them both right in the middle of the empty, rain-drenched sidewalk.

Are you still thinking about going home to an empty room?" JK asked, looking down.

The rain was dripping from his dark hair, running down his sharp cheekbones, but his eyes were burning with an uncharacteristic warmth.

No," V breathed, his voice shaking.

But I'm freezing, and we are getting soaked.

Look around you JK murmured, his face close to V's ear.

The rain is hiding everything. It's hiding your tears, it's drowning out the city, and it's making the rest of the world vanish. Right now, it's just you and me.

V looked up, blinking rapidly to clear the water from his long eyelashes. His breath hitched in his throat. Being held so securely by this stranger made the cold wind vanish completely.

Why are you doing this? You don't even know me. V whisper

I don't need to know you to see that you're hurting," JK said softly. "And right now, I don't want you to hurt.

Then stop talking and do something about it,

V whispered, tilting his chin up proudly.

JK lowered his head, and their foreheads came together, resting gently against one another. V didn't close his eyes in sadness; he kept them fixed on JK, challenging him, leaning his full weight into JK’s solid warmth, fully taking control of the sudden, electric spark between them.

...Finally, JK broke the spell, whistling loudly to flag down a passing yellow cab. The car slid to a halt beside the curb, and they tumbled into the backseat, bringing the scent of ozone and wet asphalt with them....

...The small, enclosed space of the taxi instantly amplified the intense heat radiating between their damp bodies....

...V didn't slide away to his side of the seat. Instead, he boldly shifted closer, sliding his leg over JK’s thigh, his eyes flashing with an unbothered, reckless confidence under the dim streetlights passing outside the window..................

JK’s grip tightened on V’s waist, surprised but completely captivated by how demanding the stranger was.

V smirked, leaning in until his lips brushed against JK's earlobe, his warm breath sending a jolt straight down JK's spine.

The driver is watching us,JK warned in a low rumble, his pulse racing.

Let him watch, V whispered back boldly, his fingers playfully trailing down the front of JK's wet shirt.

Tonight belongs to us, remember? Don't make me wait.
