Chapter 2

A Growing Friendship

The days after Ella’s interview seemed ordinary, yet something felt different.

Every now and then, she found herself remembering the stranger she had met at the bus stop. Daniel’s warm smile and gentle voice would unexpectedly cross her mind while she was working, cooking dinner, or lying awake at night.

She tried to ignore it.

After all, it was just a brief meeting.

Or so she thought.

Three days later, while she was helping her mother prepare dinner, her phone vibrated on the table. She glanced at the screen and noticed an unknown number.

Curious, she opened the message.

“Hi, Ella. It’s Daniel. I hope your interview went well.”

For a moment, she simply stared at the message.

A smile slowly appeared on her face.

She remembered that before leaving the bus stop, they had exchanged numbers. At the time, she hadn’t thought much about it. But now, seeing his message made her strangely happy.

She quickly typed a reply.

“Hi Daniel. Yes, it went well. Thank you for asking.”

A few seconds later, his response arrived.

“I’m glad. I’ve been hoping to hear some good news.”

Ella couldn’t explain why those words touched her heart.

Nobody outside her family had ever seemed so genuinely interested in her success.

That evening, they exchanged messages for hours.

What started as a simple conversation about the interview gradually turned into discussions about their lives.

Daniel told her about his childhood, his dreams, and the struggles he had faced while trying to build a better future.

Ella shared stories about her family, her responsibilities, and the goals she hoped to achieve someday.

For the first time in a long while, she felt comfortable opening her heart to someone.

Days turned into weeks.

Their conversations became a daily habit.

Every morning, Daniel would send her a simple message.

“Good morning, Ella. Have a beautiful day.”

And every night, before sleeping, he would ask how her day went.

No matter how busy he was, he always found time for her.

One evening, after a particularly stressful day, Ella sat alone in her room fighting back tears.

Her interview had been successful, but she was struggling with financial worries at home.

Her mother needed medicine.

Bills were piling up.

And Ella felt overwhelmed.

Just as she wiped her eyes, her phone rang.

It was Daniel.

She hesitated before answering.

“Hello?” she said softly.

Immediately, Daniel noticed something was wrong.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” she lied.

“No, you’re not.”

The concern in his voice made her emotional.

For several seconds, she remained silent.

Then the tears she had been holding back finally escaped.

Daniel listened patiently as she poured out everything she had been carrying in her heart.

He didn’t interrupt.

He didn’t judge.

He simply listened.

When she finished speaking, he said quietly,

“You don’t have to carry everything alone, Ella.”

His words broke something inside her.

Nobody had ever said that to her before.

For years, she had been the strong one.

The responsible one.

The one everyone depended on.

But Daniel made her feel like she didn’t always have to be strong.

That night, they talked until midnight.

And for the first time in weeks, Ella slept peacefully.

As their friendship deepened, they began spending more time together.

Sometimes they would meet at a small café after work.

Other times they would take long walks while talking about life.

The more time Ella spent with Daniel, the more she noticed the little things about him.

She noticed how he always greeted elderly people respectfully.

How he offered help without expecting anything in return.

How he remembered the smallest details about her.

One day, she casually mentioned that she loved reading romance novels.

A week later, Daniel surprised her with a book written by her favorite author.

“You remembered?” she asked in surprise.

Daniel smiled.

“Of course I remembered.”

Her heart fluttered.

No expensive gift had ever meant as much to her as that simple gesture.

As months passed, Daniel became one of the most important people in her life.

Whenever something good happened, he was the first person she wanted to tell.

Whenever something went wrong, he was the person she trusted most.

Without realizing it, he had become her safe place.

One evening, while watching the sunset together, they sat quietly on a park bench.

The sky was painted with beautiful shades of orange and gold.

Daniel looked at her and smiled.

“You know something?”

“What?” Ella asked.

“I don’t think meeting you was an accident.”

Ella laughed softly.

“Why do you say that?”

“Because some people enter your life and change it forever.”

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Their eyes met.

And in that silence, something beautiful began to grow between them.

Neither of them said the word love.

Not yet.

But deep inside their hearts, they both knew that their friendship was becoming something much more special.
