A Dream Meant to Stay a Dream
I dreamed that my mother bought a house with swimming pools — two for children and one for adults. A few days later, Auntie Yen and her family arrived while there was a typhoon outside. I thought to myself, “Why now?! We still haven’t finished unpacking or cleaning the house yet.”
When the rain stopped, I walked toward the nearby road to explore, because Mom had said the surroundings were beautiful. There I met a cute little girl with her mother — who was also lovely. The little girl asked me what the schools were like around here. I answered, “I don’t really know — I only moved here a few days ago — but I think it’s probably good.” I put my arm gently around her shoulder, and we walked toward what looked like a shop or small mall. I told her she could pick anything she liked.
Once inside, I asked if she liked chess. She said yes, so I told her, “Let’s buy the best chess set they have here.” While we were looking around, she suddenly called me “Father.” I quickly said, “I’m a girl, not a boy.”
Later, her mother and I chose some items. There was a small notebook decorated with Disney designs. I also picked up two rings and some hand towels printed with Elsa and Anna from Frozen. Then I noticed a display of bracelets and necklaces. I asked the girl if she would like a necklace; when I touched one bracelet, she said she wanted it too — so I decided to take it as well. I said, “Let me get this one for you.”
Right away I started wondering: How will I pay for all of this? Did I suddenly become rich? Then I realized — this is just a dream… but it felt strange, didn’t it?
As I walked slowly toward the counter to pay, I saw a small, shell‑shaped aquarium for pearls. I asked the owner if I could buy one pearl. At first he said, “They’re very hard to catch.” I replied, “But it’s just inside a shell — it can’t walk away, can it?”
While he prepared to lift it out of the water, he asked the little girl to bring some food for the pearl. As he pulled it up slowly, the pearl suddenly jumped out, landed on a nearby cabinet, then leaped back toward the aquarium — hard enough to break the glass. I stepped back quickly because it was dangerous. But the pearl jumped toward me again. I pressed myself against the wall to hide, yet it came closer still — so I climbed up onto the store shelves. It jumped again… and then I remembered: I dreamed exactly this part when I was much younger. I stood still and began predicting exactly what would happen next.
When I woke up, I felt a strong sense of déjà vu — I knew for sure this wasn’t the first time I’d dreamed this dream.
