A week after the rumors died down, the university announced a three-day educational trip to a mountain town famous for its art galleries and historic architecture.

The entire class was excited.

Ethan was especially excited because it meant three days away from assignments and exams.

Noah, however, seemed distracted.

"You don't look happy," Ethan said as they boarded the bus.

"I'm fine."

Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Whenever Noah said I'm fine, it usually meant the opposite.

The journey took several hours. Students laughed, played music, and took photos while the scenery outside slowly changed from busy city streets to green hills and forests.

When they finally arrived, everyone gathered outside a beautiful old hotel overlooking the mountains.

The view was breathtaking.

For a moment, even Noah seemed impressed.

Then his smile disappeared.

Across the courtyard stood a familiar face.

A tall student with brown hair froze when he saw Noah.

"Noah?"

Noah's expression immediately changed.

"Eli."

Ethan noticed the tension between them.

"Who's Eli?" he asked quietly.

Noah looked away.

"Someone I used to know."

That answer only created more questions.

Throughout the day, Noah seemed unusually nervous whenever Eli was nearby.

At dinner, Ethan finally couldn't ignore it anymore.

"Okay," he said. "What's going on?"

Noah sighed heavily.

"Eli and I were best friends in high school."

"Were?"

Noah nodded.

"We both loved art. We planned to attend the same university and work together someday."

"What happened?"

For a moment, Noah remained silent.

Then he spoke.

"Before graduation, there was a national art competition."

Ethan listened carefully.

"I submitted one of my best drawings. A week later, someone copied parts of it and entered a very similar design."

Ethan's eyes widened.

"And that person was Eli?"

Noah nodded.

"The judges thought I was the one who copied him."

"What?"

"I tried to explain, but nobody believed me."

The memory still hurt.

"Eli never defended me. He stayed silent while everyone blamed me."

Ethan clenched his fists.

"That's awful."

Noah gave a small shrug.

"It was years ago."

But Ethan could tell it still affected him.

The next afternoon, while visiting an art museum, Noah wandered away from the group.

He found himself standing alone in a quiet gallery.

"Still avoiding me?"

Noah turned around.

Eli stood behind him.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Finally, Eli broke the silence.

"I owe you an apology."

Noah froze.

"What?"

"I should've told the truth back then."

Eli looked genuinely ashamed.

"I was scared. I thought admitting what happened would ruin my future."

Noah stared at him.

Years of anger and disappointment suddenly resurfaced.

"You let everyone think I was a thief."

"I know."

"You ruined our friendship."

"I know."

The guilt in Eli's voice was impossible to ignore.

For the first time, Noah realized how much regret Eli carried.

"I can't change the past," Eli said quietly. "But I'm sorry."

Noah didn't answer immediately.

Forgiveness wasn't easy.

But holding onto anger forever wasn't easy either.

After a long silence, he finally nodded.

"I'm not ready to be friends again."

Eli lowered his head.

"I understand."

"But... I appreciate the apology."

A small, relieved smile appeared on Eli's face.

Later that evening, Noah told Ethan everything.

As the sun set behind the mountains, Ethan listened without interrupting.

When Noah finished, Ethan smiled.

"You handled that better than I would've."

Noah laughed softly.

"Maybe I've grown."

"Maybe you have."

For the first time in years, a painful chapter of Noah's life was finally beginning to close.
