Chapter 5: Closer, Hotter, Heavier — And The Secret Grows Sharper

Weeks turned into months. The line between performance and reality blurred completely.

What started across a table moved to the back seat of Jake’s limousine, then to the balcony of the penthouse he kept in the city, then inside, always chaste at first — Jake was old‑fashioned, strict about honour, he would not take what was not freely and fully given, he wanted to do it right, to marry her first. But the tension grew thicker every night, hotter, darker, heavier. He would hold George on his lap, George’s tiny body swallowed whole by his big frame, his big hands roaming reverently over silk‑covered curves, always careful, always desperate, kissing his neck, his jaw, his shoulders, his lips in deep, slow, drugging kisses that stole all thought away. George would melt against him, arms winding around his neck, legs falling naturally apart to fit between his, soft little sounds slipping out that made Jake groan and hold him tighter, fighting a war between iron self‑control and a hunger that was eating him alive.

“You have no idea what you do to me,” Jake would growl against his throat, grinding his hardness unmistakably against him, his hands gripping his tiny waist hard enough to bruise through the dress. “I am a man of perfect discipline. Everyone says so. And you… one look from you and I am nothing but a beast starving for you. I want to strip every layer of silk away and see every inch of what is mine. I want to make you mine in every way there is. But I will wait. I will wait until I have put a ring on your finger and my name on you. I want it all to be forever.”

George would shiver, equal parts rapture and terror. Forever. The word was heaven and hell at once. Forever with Jake was everything he secretly dreamed of. Forever based entirely on a lie was a cliff edge he was walking toward with his eyes wide open.

He tried to pull back sometimes, to be distant, to let Jake cool off — for both their sakes. But Jake only chased harder. His possessiveness only deepened, turning darker, more serious, more uncompromising.

“Do not ever try to pull away from me,” he told her once, gripping her chin firmly between his thumb and forefinger, blue eyes burning black and intense, leaving absolutely no room for argument. “You walked into my life and you became my whole world in a second. You do not get to leave. You do not get to hide. You are mine. I decide when this ends — and it never will. I don’t care what stands in the way. Family, money, society, God himself — I will burn it all down before I let you go. Understand?”

George nodded, tears stinging his eyes, and kissed him until neither of them could breathe. He understood perfectly. Jake loved Georgia with a love that was absolute, eternal, and terrifyingly all‑consuming. And George — the boy beneath — loved him back exactly the same way.

Elaine Hale kept asking to meet her. Bring her to dinner, Jacob, I must see the girl who finally tamed my ice prince. Jake kept asking Georgia, gently but insistently: Come home with me properly. Meet my mother. Let me announce us. Let me give you everything publicly. Every time George made an excuse — I am shy, I am not ready, my family is complicated — and Jake, ever respectful even in his obsession, would only hold him closer and say Whenever you are ready. I will wait a hundred years if I must.

But walls built of silk and secrets are thin, and they cannot stand forever.

One evening, after a particularly late night, after kisses that had gone on until they were both breathless and aching, Jake had carried George fully clothed up the stairs to the master bedroom and laid him down in the middle of the huge bed covered in black silk, crawling over him and caging him completely beneath his heavy, powerful body, one hand resting dangerously low on his hip, the other tangling hard in his long dark hair. He was looking at him with eyes full of love and lust and total devotion, and he whispered the words that had been hanging in the air for months, the ones George had both longed for and dreaded more than anything else:

“Marry me, Georgia. Not tomorrow. Not next month. As soon as it can be done. Be my wife. Be the mother of my children. Let me make you the richest, safest, most loved woman on this earth. I have never asked anyone for anything. I am asking you now — everything I am, everything I have, it is all yours. Just say yes.”

George froze completely beneath him, his heart stopping dead in his chest.

The room went silent. Outside, the city hummed on, unaware that in this golden room, a boy in a dress was lying under the man he loved more than life itself, being offered the whole world — a world he could never truly have, because the moment the truth came out, every bit of it would shatter into a million sharp, unforgiving pieces.

He looked up into those sapphire eyes swimming with love and sincerity, eyes that still had absolutely no idea, and he bit his lip until he tasted blood, tears finally spilling over and rolling down into his dark hair. He could not say yes. He could not say no. He could only wrap his arms tight around Jake’s neck and bury his face in the crook of his broad shoulder, sobbing silently, while Jake held him and stroked his back and murmured soft reassurances, thinking only that his sweet girl was emotional, overwhelmed by happiness.

Jake did not know he was holding the most beautiful lie he would ever love.

George did not know that fate was already turning the wheel — that very soon, accidents would happen, layers would slip, and the truth he had guarded with his life and his family’s survival would come spilling out into the light. And when it did, the coldest, most serious man in the world would be faced with the hardest choice of his existence:

To walk away in disgust and betrayal… or to look past the silk and the gender and the lie, and realise that the heart he fell in love with was never a woman’s at all — it was always George’s, and his dark, obsessive love was far stronger than any secret ever could be.
