Poison Giver

Somewhat in late 90s, the place called Jaray located in eastern region, covered with beautiful flora and fauna, a woman name Choden was lonely and depressed. She had been criticized and mistreated by the people due to giving poison to the people. She was not doing this evil work intentionally or to create problem. If Choden fails to give poison to others, she will suffer a lot. Villagers always tend to make rumors about Choden because many villager’s siblings and parents had been killed by her late mother Lemo and created lots of problems in a society.

Choden’s father (Sangla) was a Tibetan and a trader. One day, after trading his things with Bhutanese peoples and travelling miles and miles of thick forest, Sangla saw three stored-house painted with beautiful design. After reaching there, he knocked on the door three times and requested the owner to stay for one day. A girl with beautiful eyes and body texture opened the door and accepted his request. She was a Choden mother (Lemo). Sangla and Lemo started to share their interests and childhood stories. She told her parents and siblings had gone to perform one important ritual in Goenpa. After sharing for several hours, Lemo offered him a cup of vile (Ara), and made their attachment stronger. Both of them started to stare at each other and hold their hands.

In the early morning, Sangla woke up and saw Lemo at his right shoulder. He told Lemo that he will be back after 2 months from Tibet but Lemo cried. Her emotional face made him feel sad and tried to convince Lemo that he will be back in her place as soon as possible. So, to make the bond strong, he gave a pot of gold coins to lemo. He told her not to open this pot and told to keep it in a secret place. And he even said that if you open this pot then all the belongings and things of yours will turn into poison. Lemo promised sangla that she will keep this pot in a secret place. At last, both of them promised not to pour any evil thing in their relation and Sangla went back to Tibet with his white hoof with black texture horse.

Her family came back from the ritual after three days and lemo’s sister started to share about the happenings of rituals. Lemo tried to share her stories but she thought of giving surprise to her lovely sister the arrival of Sangla. One fine day, Lemo went to see whether Sangla was coming or not. She started to sing a sad song and sat beside a river. Lemo’s father told her sister to bring one butter lamp from the altar. While searching, she found her sister’s pot of gold coins and opened them. She didn’t share this with her parents and went to her friend’s house and gave them. Lemo saw the gold coin and asked her sister whether the coin is from the pot or not. Her sister forgives Lemo for the mischief done by her. So, lemo had nothing to do and told her sister that it’s okay.

The next day, Sangla reached into her house and told whether the pot was placed in a secret place or not. She narrated the whole story and made them feel unhappy. The next day, their food, water and everything turned to poison. Many people were killed and created lots of problems in society. Even sangla was killed because he was not a family of Lemo. Lemo and her sister were sad because there wasn’t any way to solve this problem. After that, villagers had shifted to another place and created lots of rumors. People named their family name as a poison giver.

Due to her mother’s sister, Choden is ignored by villagers as villagers are afraid of her poison. She tried to find the solution for her poison to save her villagers. But due to her mother, villagers thought that Choden would always try and kill people by giving any edible things.

One afternoon, one monk visited her place and asked for a cup of vile (Ara). So, the monk took his cup from his bag. But surprisingly, the vile started to boil from a monk’s cup and didn’t drink. But after several minutes, the vile was back to normal and the monk had drunk the vile. So, she observed whether the monk was suffering from her poison or not but the monk was normal and greeted Choden and went back.

After that choden knew how to save people from her poison. But the people have not trusted her words and didn’t even reply to her. Choden was not doing this work intentionally. She was considered as a bad and evil person by society.
