Villain
The sky cracked like broken glass.
From the white void above Canvas descended the colossal creature.
It had no flesh.
Its body was stitched together from torn photographs, shattered clocks, faded letters, and thousands of broken Life Frames. Faces constantly appeared across its skin, whispering names they could no longer remember.
Citizens screamed as the monster's shadow swallowed the streets.
"The Devourer..." Elder Sora whispered.
"So it has awakened."
Ren stared upward.
"What is that thing?"
Kael tightened his grip on his Memory Blade.
"It is a Frame Eater."
"It feeds on forgotten memories until entire civilizations disappear."
The Blank Artist stood calmly on a floating piece of white canvas above the monster.
"Do not fear," he announced, his voice echoing across the city.
"When every memory is gone..."
"There will be no hatred."
"No grief."
"No loneliness."
"Only peace."
People looked at him with fear.
Others looked at him with desperate hope.
Some had suffered so much that forgetting everything sounded like salvation.
Ren clenched his fists.
"That's not peace..."
"It's surrender!"
The Blank Artist slowly raised his enormous white brush.
"Then stop me."
Kael moved first.
Blue energy burst beneath his feet as he leaped high into the sky.
"Memory Art..."
"First Form..."
Silver Horizon!
A brilliant slash cut through the monster's chest.
Thousands of stolen memories exploded outward like glowing stars.
For a brief moment...
Children remembered their parents.
Old couples remembered fifty years together.
A musician remembered the song he had forgotten.
The city filled with tears of joy.
Then...
The monster opened its mouth.
It inhaled.
Every released memory was pulled back inside.
Its wounds healed instantly.
Kael landed on a rooftop.
"...Impossible."
Aiko sprinted across collapsing buildings.
"Ren!"
"We have to reach its Heart Frame!"
"Its what?"
"The original memory keeping it alive!"
She threw one of her Memory Daggers.
The glowing blade struck the creature's shoulder.
Instead of blood...
Old photographs poured out.
One drifted into Ren's hands.
It showed a little boy smiling beside his sister.
The picture suddenly turned blank.
The faces vanished forever.
Ren felt sick.
The monster wasn't eating people.
It was eating their lives.
Far above the battle, the Blank Artist watched silently.
Echo appeared beside him like a ghost stepping from mist.
"The future is changing," she said softly.
"You shouldn't be here."
"I know."
"You'll disappear if Ren wins."
The Blank Artist remained silent.
After a long pause, he answered.
"If he can save everyone..."
"I'll gladly vanish."
Echo looked at him in surprise.
"So you still..."
Before she could finish, the Blank Artist disappeared into white light.
On the ground, Ren's Memory Crystal suddenly glowed.
Inside it appeared another forgotten memory.
A young Ren.
A snowy day.
Another boy standing beside him.
They were laughing together while drawing pictures.
Ren frowned.
"...Who is he?"
No matter how hard he tried...
He couldn't remember the boy's face.
The memory ended.
Only one sentence remained.
"Promise we'll always remember each other."
The crystal cracked.
The Devourer roared.
Its body expanded until it towered above the city's tallest buildings.
Every roar erased another piece of history.
Libraries became filled with blank books.
Street signs lost their names.
School records disappeared.
People forgot birthdays.
Songs.
Dreams.
Even the word "hope" began fading from countless minds.
"No more!"
Ren shouted.
Blue light erupted from his body.
Every nearby Life Frame answered his voice.
Thousands of glowing rectangles circled him like stars.
Elder Sora smiled.
"So the Creator's Gift has awakened..."
Ren reached toward the sky.
The floating Life Frames merged into a gigantic paintbrush made of radiant blue light.
The opposite of the Blank Artist's white brush.
The two powers faced each other.
Creation...
Against...
Erasure.
The Blank Artist looked directly at Ren.
For the first time...
His blank mask cracked.
A tiny fracture spread across its smooth white surface.
Behind it, for a single heartbeat, Ren saw a human eye.
It was filled with unbearable sadness.
Then the crack sealed itself.
"So..."
The Blank Artist whispered.
"You've remembered the first stroke."
Ren swung the blue brush.
A wave of brilliant light swept across the city.
Broken Life Frames repaired themselves.
Forgotten names returned.
Families embraced one another.
Flowers bloomed in places that had become empty.
The Devourer screamed as its stolen memories escaped.
Its giant body began to crumble.
"Now!" Kael shouted.
Every Frame Keeper attacked together.
Hundreds of glowing weapons pierced the monster.
With one final cry...
The Devourer shattered into millions of shining Life Frames that floated gently back to their rightful owners.
Silence filled Canvas.
The battle was over.
But the Blank Artist had already disappeared.
Only one white feather drifted through the air.
Ren caught it.
Written upon it in black ink were six chilling words.
"This victory was part of my painting."
The feather dissolved into dust.
Far beyond the city...
Inside an endless white world...
The Blank Artist stood before an unfinished canvas.
Without speaking, he painted one new figure.
Ren.
Then he drew a single black X across the painting.
"I only have eleven Life Frames left," he whispered to himself.
"When the last one disappears..."
"I will finally forget... why I wanted to save the world."
