Forbidden Love
A girl's voice is heard, "You can't leave me like this. We promised to be together for seven lives. Don't leave me." Tears were flowing from the girl's eyes.
In her lap was a boy's head, which was bleeding profusely. Blood was continuously flowing from his wounds. He placed one hand on the girl's face and said, "Why are you crying? I'm just happy I was able to save you. If I have to die a hundred times, even a thousand times, for you, I'm okay with that.
After I'm gone, you take care of yourself." The boy's eyes were closing as he said this. He was in a semi-conscious state, and it felt as if the girl was saying something. He couldn't hear anything else; only the last line reached his ears: "Now, in my next life, I will save you. Even if I never get to see you again."
The boy took his last breath, and the girl let out a loud scream.
Present
In the dark of night, Vikram is sleeping on his bed. His eyes are closed, but he's probably dreaming, causing him to toss and turn.
His facial expressions are constantly changing. One moment he's happy, the next he's sweating. He's probably having a nightmare. He sees a boy living in a distant village. He has only one dream: to become the commander of his kingdom. He works very hard for it, and one day his dream comes true.
Then he has a vision of a boy resting his head on a girl's lap. He can't clearly see either the girl's or the boy's face.
But he didn't know why. He could feel himself connected to this dream. As if the boy was none other than himself. Vikram's eyes flew open with a loud scream.
Vikram was drenched in sweat. He couldn't understand why this dream was recurring. All he knew was that in the dream, he saw himself standing in an unknown place.
There was no one else there. The girl and the boy were wearing clothes from the era of kings and emperors. Every time, he saw the boy in the same condition.
From Vikram's perspective
What kind of strange dream is this? I have this same dream every night. Do I have a concession to this dream? If so, what is it? And who is that girl? Why is she crying?
Why is that boy in such a state? What is all this going on? Why does that girl's crying bother me so much? What is she like to me? Why can't I see tears in her eyes? Why?
Vikram had many questions. He'd been having these dreams ever since he turned 18. He'd had them before that too, but he couldn't remember them.
He used to forget everything in the morning, but during those years, whenever he woke up, tears would flow from his eyes, as if he'd cried all night.
But in the morning, he couldn't remember anything. After he turned 18, he started remembering them. Even today, he couldn't see the faces of that boy and that girl clearly.
But that girl's eyes were etched in his mind. Of all the things he saw, he never forgot them: those eyes.
As if they were waiting for him, calling him, wanting to tell him so much, but Vikram never found the answers to his questions.
Vikram himself was a well-known name. His family had introduced him to many girls, but none of them had touched Vikram's heart.
That's why things never progressed further. Firstly, Vikram rarely spoke to anyone. He was solely concerned with his business, for which he worked hard day and night. So that when he returned home at night, he would fall asleep as soon as he lay down due to exhaustion and not have that dream.
There was someone else in the same corner of the city who had dreams just like Vikram every night. The only difference was that Vikram couldn't clearly see the faces of the boy and the girl in his own vision.
But Naina could see everything clearly. She knew that the girl was none other than herself. She also knew who that boy was.
Naina had been having these dreams ever since she turned 18. Sometimes, she would wake up as if she were trying to save someone. Her family was very worried about Naina.
Since childhood, Naina would mention the names of people who now reside only in the pages of history. Her family had taken her to the doctor many times, but their reports never revealed anything.
Naina had become withdrawn. She no longer spoke much to anyone, nor behaved like a normal child. It seemed as if she had forgotten how to play.
Seeing her condition, the neighbors suggested Naina be moved to another place. Upon everyone's insistence, Naina's parents took her to her grandmother's village.
Naina would go to her grandmother's house and talk to her. She was the only one in the house who listened to Naina. She always told Naina, "Those who are destined to meet, no one can stop them from meeting."
As Naina grew older, she couldn't bear to see her family's plight. So, she decided to treat everyone like a normal child.
The storm that raged in Naina's heart was known only to her. She couldn't tell anyone anything even if she wanted to, and if she did, no one would believe her.
So Naina kept all those things to herself. She never spoke to anyone.
Naina cursed herself every night in her dreams. If she had just mustered a little courage, she could have saved him. She wouldn't have had to sacrifice her life for Naina.
The pain of losing someone close is a million times greater than any betrayal. Naina was now understanding this. The only words that came out of her mouth were, "Let's not meet again, my love."
