The black sedan rolled silently through the city streets.
Aurora leaned against the window, watching the lights disappear one by one as the Voss mansion faded into the distance.
Her mind refused to rest.
She had spent less than an hour with Lucien Voss.
Yet that single meeting had shattered everything she believed about him.
He wasn't loud.
He wasn't cruel.
He didn't need to threaten anyone.
His silence alone carried enough power to make people obey.
Aurora closed her eyes, replaying every word he had spoken.
"If you return... it will be as my fiancée."
The words settled heavily in her heart.
She didn't even realize the car had stopped until the driver opened the door.
"We're here, Miss Blake."
Aurora thanked him quietly and walked toward her house.
The front door opened before she could reach it.
Grace Blake hurried outside and wrapped her daughter in a tight embrace.
"You scared me," Grace whispered. "I've been waiting by the window."
"I'm alright, Mom."
William Blake stood in the doorway, unable to look Aurora in the eyes.
"What happened?" he asked in a low voice.
Aurora stepped inside and placed her handbag on the table.
"He gave me two days."
William's shoulders slumped.
"I never wanted this."
"I know, Dad."
"No..." he said, his voice breaking. "You don't understand."
He slowly sank onto the sofa.
"I failed this family."
Grace sat beside him and held his hand.
"We'll find another way."
William gave a bitter smile.
"I've searched for one every single day."
"There isn't one."
The room fell silent.
Aurora looked at the people she loved most.
Her father, once full of confidence, now looked defeated.
Her mother tried to stay strong, even though fear filled her eyes.
Everything they had built was slipping away.
That night, Aurora couldn't sleep.
She walked onto the balcony and looked up at the sky.
The stars shone brightly above her, untouched by the worries below.
"Why me?" she whispered into the night.
Far across the city, the lights inside the Voss mansion were still on.
Lucien stood alone in his study.
A knock came at the door.
"Come in."
Dante Russo entered.
"Boss."
Lucien didn't turn around.
"She left safely?"
"Yes."
"And?"
Dante hesitated.
"She looked frightened."
Lucien remained silent.
After a long pause, he spoke.
"Anyone in her position would be."
Dante looked at him curiously.
"You could have forced her answer today."
Lucien's expression didn't change.
"A forced answer has no value."
Before Dante could respond, another man hurried into the study.
"Boss."
Lucien turned.
"What is it?"
"The DeLuca Syndicate has started making moves."
The room instantly grew tense.
"They've been asking questions about Miss Aurora Blake."
Lucien's calm expression hardened for the first time.
"They know about her?"
"It seems so."
A dangerous silence filled the room.
Lucien's grey eyes turned cold.
"Double the security around the Blake family."
"And make sure they never realize they're being protected."
"Yes, Boss."
As the men left, Lucien looked out through the rain-covered window.
For years, he had kept his dangerous world separate from innocent lives.
Now...
Aurora Blake had unknowingly become part of it.
And once the DeLuca Syndicate set its sights on someone...
There was no turning back....
