The Promise Under the Stars

🌙 Chapter 5

The days passed quietly after the family picnic. 🌿

School had reopened, and life slowly returned to its usual routine.

Kian became busy preparing for his graduation exams. 📚 His teachers constantly reminded the class that their future depended on the next few months.

Meanwhile, Chanon had started a new school term. Every evening, he called Kian to tell him about something new.

Sometimes it was a funny classroom incident.

Sometimes it was a football match. ⚽

Sometimes it was simply because he wanted to hear Kian's voice.

At first, Kian wondered why someone could have so much to say every single day.

Now...

He found himself waiting for those calls.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

One Friday evening, Chanon arrived at Kian's house with his parents for another family dinner. 🍽️

The moment he walked through the front door, he smiled brightly.

"Kian!"

Kian looked up from the book he was reading.

"You're here."

"I've been here for five seconds and you already sound tired."

"I'm not."

"You definitely are."

Kian closed his book.

"You've gotten even louder."

"And you've gotten even more serious."

Both of them laughed.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

After dinner, the adults stayed inside discussing work and old memories.

The two boys slipped quietly into the backyard. 🌳

The air was cool, and countless stars filled the clear night sky. ✨

Chanon lay down on the soft grass and folded his hands behind his head.

"The stars look beautiful tonight."

Kian sat beside him.

"They always do."

"No."

"They look brighter today."

"Why?"

"Because I'm happy."

Kian turned his head slightly.

"What made you so happy?"

Chanon smiled without looking away from the sky.

"I'm spending time with my best friend."

Those simple words made Kian unexpectedly quiet.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

After a few minutes, Chanon sat up and looked at him.

"Kian?"

"Hm?"

"What do you want to become after school?"

Kian answered without hesitation.

"I want to study engineering."

"That's so cool!"

"What about you?"

"I don't know yet."

He smiled sheepishly.

"I'm only fourteen."

"You still have time."

"I know."

He looked at Kian again.

"But whatever happens..."

"I hope we'll still be friends."

The smile on Kian's face faded into something softer.

"We will."

"You promise?" 🤝

Kian looked at the night sky before extending his little finger.

"Promise."

Chanon laughed happily and hooked his little finger around Kian's.

"Pinky promise." 🤍

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A gentle breeze passed through the garden.

Neither of them spoke for a while.

Sometimes silence said more than words ever could.

Suddenly, Chanon pointed toward the sky.

"A shooting star!" 🌠

"Quick!"

"Make a wish!"

Kian closed his eyes for a brief moment.

When he opened them again, Chanon was smiling at him.

"What did you wish for?"

"If I tell you, it won't come true."

"That's unfair."

"What about you?"

Chanon smiled.

"I wished that no matter how busy life gets..."

"...you'll never forget me."

Kian looked at him quietly.

Then he answered in his calm voice,

"I don't think I could."

Chanon blinked.

"What?"

"Forget you."

For a second, Chanon forgot how to speak.

Then the brightest smile spread across his face.

"I'll remember that forever."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Later that night, both families prepared to leave.

As Chanon stood near the front gate, he suddenly remembered something.

"Oh!"

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small blue thread bracelet.

"I made this myself."

Before Kian could say anything, Chanon gently tied it around his wrist.

"This one isn't a gift."

"What is it then?"

"It's proof."

"Proof of what?"

"That you'll always have a friend waiting for you."

Kian looked at the bracelet for a long moment.

Then he nodded once.

"I'll keep it."

Those four words meant more to Chanon than any expensive present ever could.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

As the car drove away, Chanon leaned out of the window one last time.

"Bye, Kian!"

"See you soon."

"I'll call tomorrow!"

"I know."

"And don't ignore my calls!"

"I won't."

The car disappeared into the distance. 🚗

Kian stood at the gate until the taillights vanished.

He looked down at the blue bracelet wrapped around his wrist.

For someone who had never liked wearing accessories...

He had no intention of taking this one off.

🌙 Under the same night sky, two boys returned to their separate homes.

Neither of them realized that time was moving faster than they expected.

Soon...

Life would test their promise in ways they could never imagine.

And that simple friendship, built through smiles, phone calls, and quiet moments, would become the strongest memory they shared. ✨
