The Shape of Regret

The Shape of Regret

Characters Introduction

*‘*The universe doesn't make mistakes. It erases them.

Ten years after abandoning Jarl-the boy he once called family-Prismo has built a quiet life on not looking back. But when a dying, reality-glitching traveler from a deleted timeline crashes into his apartment, the past comes roaring back with a cosmic death sentence attached.

The traveler is an anomaly, and his presence triggers a Syntax Sweep: a system-wide purge that will erase the entire sector to remove the error. As reality pixelates into wireframes and the walls begin to fail, Prismo and Jarl are forced into a desperate race against deletion.

To survive the universe, they'll have to survive each other first.’

Prismo James Christopher

Prismo is the story's emotional center: a withdrawn, guilt-ridden former addict who has spent years trying to live quietly and avoid the past. He is deeply loyal, painfully self-aware, and forced to confront the childhood abandonment he has never truly recovered from.

Jarl Haigh Cloutier

Jarl Cloutier is Prismo's childhood best friend and emotional opposite in many ways: outwardly controlled, sharp, and guarded, but underneath that toughness is a lot of hurt and devotion. He spent years believing Prismo abandoned him, and his return forces him to face both old resentment and old love.

Jarl Elrod, designation 103

Jarl Elrod is the dying, glitching traveler from a deleted timeline whose body and identity are shaped by instability. He functions as both a cosmic anomaly and a living reflection of Prismo's regret, but he also becomes a person in his own right as the story progresses.

Damien Marc Lochs (the CrazyDami)

Damien is Prismo's cynical, brilliant tech friend who hides his intelligence behind sarcasm and casual humor. He grounds the story with practicality, but he also cares more than he admits and becomes essential in trying to keep everyone alive.

The Sector Superintendent (Prismo J.Ataie CPh.021)

The Sector Superintendent is a powerful cosmic authority figure who represents the larger system behind reality itself. He is coldly administrative on the surface, but his connection to Elrod reveals a deeply personal, emotional side beneath the authority.

Marcus T.P

Marcus is a background but important figure in Prismo's past, representing betrayal and the street-level cruelty that helped destroy his life. He helps explain how Prismo's trauma and Scarab's abandonment became so deeply entangled.

The landlord / orphanage caretakers / authority figures…

These figures are not central as individuals, but they represent the systems that failed and controlled the boys' lives. They help reinforce the story's themes of abandonment, punishment, and survival.

...****************...

Author's Note: Hi everyone! And btw, a quick heads-up—this story is a bit of a slow-burn. To maintain the natural flow and tension of the drama, the plot focuses more on the thriller elements rather than heavy romance. While you can expect some soft, affectionate moments between characters, the story remains clean and plot-driven. I hope you enjoy the ride!
