PROLOGUE

Fifteen Years Ago

People often say time heals everything.

Perhaps it softens the pain.

Perhaps it teaches people how to smile again.

But it never erases the truth.

The truth has a peculiar way of surviving. Authorities would close the investigation.

Witnesses would remain silent.

The truth would disappear beneath carefully written reports and convincing lies.

To the world, it was simply another unfortunate night.

But for eight children...
