PROLOGUE

Fifteen Years Ago

People often say time heals everything.

Perhaps it softens the pain.

Perhaps it teaches people how to smile again.

But it never erases the truth.

The truth has a peculiar way of surviving. It hides where no one thinks to look—in forgotten photographs tucked inside dusty drawers, in abandoned houses left to decay, in unfinished conversations, and in memories too painful to remember. It waits patiently, knowing that one day, someone will come searching for answers.

On that night, the rain refused to stop.

It fell heavily against the windows, drowned the sound of distant cries, and washed away footprints from the cold pavement. Thunder rolled across the sky while the wind whispered through the trees, carrying away secrets that should never have existed.

By dawn, newspapers would call it a tragic accident.

Authorities would close the investigation.

Witnesses would remain silent.

The truth would disappear beneath carefully written reports and convincing lies.

To the world, it was simply another unfortunate night.

But for eight children...

it became the beginning of everything.

Four little girls slept peacefully beneath the same sky, unaware that fate had already written their names into a story they would spend years trying to understand.

One would grow up carrying a grief she could never fully explain.

One would laugh loudly enough to hide the fears buried deep inside her heart.

One would learn that kindness could survive even the darkest memories.

And one...

would carry a silence far heavier than any child ever should.

None of them knew each other.

Not yet.

Miles away, four boys dreamed ordinary dreams, believing tomorrow would arrive like every other day before it.

They had no idea that years later, an invisible thread would pull them toward four girls whose lives had already been changed forever.

They would arrive one by one.

Not to rescue anyone.

Not to become heroes.

But to stand beside them when the past finally demanded to be remembered.

Because some battles were never meant to be fought alone.

Years would pass.

Friendships would bloom where strangers once stood.

Laughter would echo through classrooms, cafés, late-night conversations, and endless adventures. Promises would be made. Hearts would find places they never expected to belong.

They would call it coincidence.

Destiny would quietly disagree.

For every smile they shared in the present had roots buried somewhere in the past.

A past none of them remembered.

A past someone had spent years trying to keep hidden.

But secrets are like cracks in glass.

No matter how carefully they're covered, the light always finds a way through.

And when the first crack finally appears...

old wounds will reopen.

Forgotten names will return.

The lies that protected them will become the lies that threaten to tear them apart.

Some will question everything they believed.

Some will lose the people they trust the most.

Some will discover that love can survive even the darkest truths.

And all of them will learn that the hardest battles are not fought against enemies...

but against the ghosts of yesterday.

Because this is not merely a story about friendship.

Nor is it only a story about love.

It is a story about promises made in silence.

About memories that refused to disappear.

About people whose lives were intertwined long before they ever spoke each other's names.

Some stories begin with a first meeting.

Some begin with a goodbye.

And some...

begin years before anyone realizes they have already become part of each other's destiny.
