Chapter 5: The First Morning in Elarion

Golden sunlight filtered through the silver leaves, painting the Moonlit Sanctuary in warm hues.

For the first time since arriving in Elarion, Lyra slept without the sound of chains or frightened whispers surrounding her.

When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a fluffy white tail swaying in front of her face.

"...Hmm?"

She blinked.

The tiny spirit fox from the previous night had curled up on her pillow.

Its little nose twitched before it let out a tiny sneeze.

"Achoo!"

Lyra couldn't help smiling.

"So you stayed here all night?"

The fox yawned, opened one sleepy blue eye, and then climbed onto her shoulder as if it belonged there.

Just then, someone knocked lightly on the wooden door.

"You're awake."

Caelan entered carrying two steaming cups.

"I made tea."

Lyra sat up.

"You cook..."

"You make tea..."

"What else can you do?"

He thought for a moment.

"I can repair roofs."

She blinked.

"...What?"

"The sanctuary leaks during the rainy season."

His completely serious expression made Lyra laugh.

The sound echoed through the room.

Caelan froze.

He had almost forgotten what genuine laughter sounded like.

"You should laugh more."

The words escaped before he realized it.

Lyra's smile faded slightly.

"I haven't had many reasons to."

Silence settled between them.

---

After breakfast, Caelan led Lyra outside.

The sanctuary looked even more beautiful during daylight.

Crystal butterflies fluttered above colorful flowers, while glowing streams flowed quietly toward the lake.

Lumi darted happily through the air, chasing butterflies much larger than herself.

"You mentioned yesterday that I awakened this place."

Lyra broke the silence.

"What exactly is the Moonlit Sanctuary?"

Caelan stopped before an enormous tree whose trunk was wider than a castle gate.

Silver runes covered its bark.

"This is the Heart Tree."

"It is older than every kingdom in Elarion."

He gently placed a hand on the trunk.

"It records the memories of the world."

Lyra looked up.

"...Memories?"

"The trees here remember everything."

"The birth of dragons."

"The rise of kingdoms."

"The Sundering."

"And..."

He looked at her.

"The arrival of every World Walker."

Lyra frowned.

"I thought I was the first."

"The first in a thousand years."

He corrected softly.

"There were others before you."

"What happened to them?"

Caelan looked away.

"I don't know."

"They disappeared."

---

Lumi suddenly squeaked loudly.

"Kyu! Kyu!"

The tiny fox darted toward a nearby bush before digging excitedly.

Moments later, she emerged carrying a strange blue fruit nearly the size of her body.

She proudly placed it at Lyra's feet.

"For me?"

Lumi nodded enthusiastically.

Caelan folded his arms.

"Congratulations."

"You've been accepted."

"By whom?"

"Lumi."

Lyra looked between them.

"...That's important?"

Caelan actually looked offended.

"Lumi has rejected gifts from kings."

The tiny fox proudly puffed out her chest.

Lyra laughed again.

"Thank you."

She gently scratched Lumi behind the ears.

The little fox immediately melted into her hands with a happy chirp.

Caelan sighed.

"She likes you far too much."

---

Later that afternoon, Caelan led Lyra to a circular stone platform hidden behind the sanctuary.

Ancient symbols covered every inch of it.

"What is this?"

"A training ground."

Lyra blinked.

"You expect me to fight?"

"I expect you to survive."

His words were calm.

"But I don't even know how to use magic."

"Exactly."

He stepped onto the platform.

"So today..."

"We begin."

---

"Close your eyes."

Lyra obeyed.

"Take a deep breath."

She inhaled slowly.

"What do you feel?"

"The wind."

"The warmth of the sun."

"The sound of the water."

Caelan nodded.

"Good."

"Now..."

"Ignore them."

She frowned.

"What?"

"Aether exists beneath those sensations."

"It isn't something you force."

"It's something you hear."

Minutes passed.

Nothing happened.

Lyra sighed.

"I don't hear anything."

"You are trying too hard."

She tried again.

Silence.

Then...

A faint whisper brushed against her thoughts.

Almost like someone calling her name.

"Lyra..."

Her eyes snapped open.

"I heard something."

Caelan's expression sharpened.

"What did it say?"

"It..."

She hesitated.

"It called my name."

At that exact moment, the runes beneath her feet glowed faintly.

A tiny thread of silver light rose from the platform.

It circled around Lyra's hand before disappearing.

Caelan smiled faintly.

"You found your first thread of Aether."

"So that's magic?"

"No."

"Magic comes later."

"This..."

He looked at the fading light.

"...is the world acknowledging your existence."

---

Their lesson was interrupted by the distant sound of wings.

Whoosh!

A massive eagle descended from the sky.

Its feathers shimmered like polished silver.

Around its neck hung a leather satchel.

The eagle landed gracefully beside Caelan.

"It found us."

Lyra watched curiously.

"The bird delivers messages?"

"It delivers warnings."

Caelan removed a sealed scroll.

The seal depicted seven interlocking circles.

His expression immediately darkened.

"What is it?"

He handed the scroll to Lyra.

The elegant handwriting read:

To the Last Guardian,

The awakening of the Moonlit Sanctuary has been witnessed across all Seven Kingdoms.

The Dragon Council demands an explanation.

Furthermore... scouts have confirmed unusual movement near Ignisar.

The Ancient Dragon Emperor has left his slumber.

Proceed with caution.

—The Council of Guardians

Lyra looked up.

"So everyone knows I'm here now."

Caelan nodded.

"There will be allies."

"And enemies."

He gazed toward the fiery mountains in the distance.

"The Dragon Emperor has never left Ignisar in over a thousand years."

"If he's moving now..."

"He is coming for someone."

A sudden gust of scorching wind swept through the sanctuary.

The silver leaves trembled.

Far beyond the horizon, a colossal shadow soared above the clouds for just a moment before disappearing behind the mountains.

Even from that impossible distance, Lyra could feel an overwhelming presence.

It wasn't hostile.

It wasn't kind.

It was ancient.

Lumi climbed onto Lyra's shoulder and hid behind her hair, trembling slightly.

Caelan quietly gripped his spear.

"The journey begins sooner than I hoped."

He looked at Lyra.

"We leave the sanctuary tomorrow."

"Where are we going?"

"To Ignisar."

"To meet the ruler of dragons."

"And if we're fortunate..."

"He'll listen before he decides whether to burn us to ashes."

Lyra swallowed hard.

For the first time since arriving in Elarion, she realized the vastness of the world that awaited her beyond the sanctuary.

Their first destination would be the realm of dragons—and the mysterious Dragon Emperor who had awakened the moment she crossed the World Gate.
