Chapter 5: Two Different Worlds

Waytt's POV

The atmosphere in the dining room shifted the moment the guard entered.

"Boss."

Waytt looked up from his coffee.

"What is it?"

"We caught one of Romano's men outside the east gate."

The warmth that had quietly settled over lunch disappeared instantly.

Adrian's expression hardened.

"Was he armed?"

"Yes."

Waytt stood without another question.

"Bring him to the interrogation room."

"Yes, Boss."

As the guard hurried away, Waytt instinctively looked toward Kate.

She had stopped walking.

Her calm eyes searched his face, as though trying to understand the sudden change in the room.

"I have work," he said.

She simply nodded.

"I understand."

He hesitated for a fraction of a second.

"If you need anything..."

She met his gaze.

"...Just ask the staff."

A small, polite smile appeared on her face.

"I will."

Waytt turned and walked toward the west wing.

His footsteps echoed through the marble corridors.

The gentle husband who had shared tea with Kate during the night disappeared behind a pair of heavy wooden doors.

Beyond them waited the man the city feared.

---

Kate's POV

She watched him leave until he disappeared from sight.

Only then did she realize how quickly the atmosphere around him could change.

One moment he was quietly reminding her to eat lunch.

The next, he was a mafia boss responding to danger.

They truly lived in different worlds.

Wanting fresh air, Kate wandered into the estate gardens.

White roses lined the stone pathways, while fountains filled the peaceful afternoon with the soothing sound of running water.

It was difficult to believe such beauty existed inside a place surrounded by armed guards.

As she admired the flowers, she noticed an elderly gardener struggling to move a heavy ceramic planter.

Without thinking, she walked over.

"May I help?"

The old man looked horrified.

"M-Madam... please don't."

Kate smiled gently.

"It'll be quicker if we both lift it."

Despite his nervousness, the gardener nodded.

Together they carefully moved the planter beneath a shaded archway.

"There," Kate said with satisfaction.

The old man bowed gratefully.

"Thank you, Madam."

She laughed softly.

"You don't have to thank me for something so small."

Unbeknownst to her, someone had witnessed the entire exchange.

---

Waytt's POV

From the tall windows of his office, Waytt looked down into the gardens.

There she was.

Helping the gardener.

Smiling.

Speaking to him as though he were family rather than a servant.

Adrian entered carrying another stack of reports.

"You've been looking out that window for quite a while."

Waytt didn't answer.

Adrian followed his gaze.

"...She's helping the gardener."

"I can see that."

Adrian smiled knowingly.

"You've spent years making people obey."

Waytt remained silent.

"But she's making them smile."

For the first time in years, the mansion felt alive.

Not because anything had changed.

Because someone had brought warmth into a place built on discipline.

A sharp knock interrupted the moment.

"Boss."

A guard entered quickly.

"The prisoner refuses to speak."

Waytt's eyes became cold again.

"I'll handle it."

He walked toward the door before stopping.

One final instruction left his lips.

"Make sure Madam stays inside the estate."

"Yes, Boss."

---

Kate's POV

After returning inside, Kate heard firm voices echoing through a distant hallway.

Then...

A heavy door slammed shut.

She looked toward the west wing.

Curiosity stirred inside her.

Before she could take another step, one of the younger maids approached nervously.

"Madam..."

Kate turned with a reassuring smile.

"Yes?"

"The Boss asked that you avoid the west wing."

"Why?"

The maid lowered her eyes.

"...That's where he handles... business."

Kate understood immediately.

She nodded.

"I won't go."

Relief washed over the maid's face.

"Thank you, Madam."

Kate quietly turned toward the library once again.

Only a few corridors separated them.

In one wing of the mansion, Waytt Moretti became the ruthless king of the underworld.

In the other, Kate lost herself among books, unaware that every dangerous decision he made carried one silent promise.

No matter the cost...

Nothing would ever be allowed to harm her.
