(19+) HIS MAJESTY IS OBSESSED WITH HIS MUTE QUEEN

1. The Princess Who Never Spoke

The bells of Lysoria rang every morning before sunrise.

Their silver melody drifted across fields of lavender, through streets lined with white stone, and into the towering palace that overlooked the kingdom like a watchful swan upon a crystal lake.

Yet one person never answered their song.

Princess Eirene Valeris stood alone on the eastern balcony, where the first rays of dawn painted the sky in soft shades of gold and violet. A cool breeze tugged at the loose strands of her silver-blonde hair as she watched the city awaken beneath her.

Merchants opened their stalls.

Children chased one another through the streets.

Soldiers changed shifts at the palace gates.

Life continued as though the world had never known sorrow.

A small leather-bound journal rested in her hands. She opened it to a blank page and carefully wrote only three words.

Another peaceful morning.

Her handwriting flowed as gracefully as a river.

She smiled faintly before closing the journal.

"Your Highness."

Lady Mireya approached quietly, carrying a tray with tea and warm bread. Unlike the servants who pitied the princess, Mireya never looked at Eirene with sympathy.

Only understanding.

"You've been awake since before dawn again."

Eirene nodded.

Mireya sighed dramatically.

"One day you'll have to teach me how you survive on so little sleep."

A tiny laugh escaped Eirene.

No sound followed it.

Only silence.

She raised a finger, pretending to count.

"Ah," Mireya laughed. "Tea. Of course."

The princess's blue eyes sparkled with amusement.

For a moment, everything felt wonderfully ordinary.

Until the palace bells rang again.

Not once.

Not twice.

Seven times.

The smile vanished from Mireya's face.

"...That's the war bell."

Servants froze where they stood.

Knights hurried through the corridors.

Somewhere below, someone shouted orders.

Eirene gripped the balcony railing.

She had heard those bells only once before.

Seven years ago.

The memory struck like winter.

Dark smoke.

Crimson stained marble.

A child's trembling hands.

Someone screaming her name.

Then...

Nothing.

No voice.

Not ever again.

Her breathing quickened.

Mireya immediately noticed.

"It's all right," she whispered gently. "You're here."

But Eirene knew.

Those bells never rang without reason.

A palace guard burst onto the balcony and knelt.

"Princess. Lady Mireya. His Majesty requests your presence in the council chamber immediately."

The journey through the palace felt longer than ever.

Nobles whispered behind embroidered sleeves.

Servants avoided meeting her eyes.

Soldiers marched with unusual urgency.

Something terrible had crossed the kingdom's borders.

When the grand doors opened, the council chamber fell silent.

King Aldric stood beside an enormous map spread across an oak table. His normally composed expression had hardened into stone.

Red markers covered nearly half the continent.

Every one of them carried the same symbol.

A black raven.

"The Kingdom of Nocthar," one general said grimly. "They've taken another fortress."

"The Raven King has crossed the northern pass."

Another adviser swallowed.

"Three cities surrendered before sunset."

Silence swallowed the room.

King Aldric looked toward his daughter.

For a fleeting second, Eirene thought she saw fear behind his stern gaze.

Then it disappeared.

"The council has reached a conclusion," he said.

His words fell heavier than iron.

"If Nocthar reaches Lysoria..." He paused. "...our kingdom may not survive."

Outside, thunder rolled across the clear summer sky.

Eirene stepped closer to the map.

Her eyes settled on the raven emblem slowly advancing toward the golden crest of Lysoria.

Somewhere beyond those mountains marched a king she had never met.

A king whose name mothers whispered to frighten unruly children.

Kael Draven.

The Raven King.

And though neither of them knew it yet, the fate of two kingdoms had already begun to weave itself around their lives.
