That morning, New York City awoke to a gray sky, unlike the previous days. The autumn wind blew more fiercely along the East River, swaying the rows of flags of UN member states that still proudly waved in front of its headquarters. The third day of the General Assembly officially began, but before delegates could take their respective seats, news had already spread across the globe through mobile screens and international news broadcasts.

Two Foreign Ministers Take Center Stage at UN Session
Meetings between the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Arvenia, Verlando Asterian, and the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Veloria, Zera Della Naviera, have been repeatedly captured on camera throughout the General Assembly. Both appeared to converse casually, both during session breaks and at the diplomatic reception last night. To date, there has been no official statement regarding special cooperation, but their closeness has garnered widespread attention from international media.
Inside the official car, Nathan placed a tablet before Verlando.
“The news has spread widely, Minister.”
Ando, who was reviewing session documents, slowly looked up.
“What’s the main point?”
Nathan turned the screen towards him. “There are no accusations or bad news yet. Just highlighting your meetings.”
Ando skimmed it, then sighed softly. “Exaggerated as if there’s something special. When in fact, we only discussed what was necessary.”
“That’s the nature of media,” Nathan calmly replied. “They will always find an angle to highlight.”
Ando smiled faintly. “Fortunately, there’s no speculation that’s too far-fetched yet.”
“Hopefully it stays that way.”
Soon after, the Arvenian delegation’s car entered the UN headquarters area.
In the Kingdom of Veloria’s vehicle, a similar scene unfolded. Livia showed the same article to Zera.
“Minister… this news has spread to almost all major media outlets.”
Zera glanced briefly, then nodded slowly. “I expected this would happen.”
“Do we need to issue a clarifying statement?”
Zera shook her head firmly. “No need.”
“Why?”
“Because there’s nothing to clarify. The more we explain something that is actually very ordinary, the more their curiosity will grow.”
The car stopped at the main entrance. Dozens of journalists were already waiting, camera flashes lighting up in succession as Zera stepped out.
“Minister Zera! Is it true you are in special communication with the Arvenian Minister?”
“Will there be a bilateral cooperation agreement soon?”
Zera maintained a polite and calm smile. “All forms of cooperation between nations will be announced through official United Nations channels. Thank you.”
That brief answer only made journalists busier crafting their own versions of the news.
Inside the building, the issue had become a hot topic of conversation. Some diplomats regarded it as mere entertainment news, while others made light jokes. When Verlando entered the waiting room, the Foreign Minister of Nusadarma greeted him with a wide smile.
“Good morning, Minister Verlando. It seems you are the main subject of this morning’s news.”
Ando smiled amiably. “Good morning, Minister. That’s just news that isn’t too important.”
“Precisely such news travels fastest across the globe.”
Nathan, standing behind him, just shook his head slowly. “The media indeed has its own way of making the ordinary extraordinary.”
Soon Zera also entered the room. Their gazes met for a moment, accompanied only by a brief, polite nod. But that fleeting moment was again captured by cameras secretly monitoring from a distance.
The morning session began with a discussion on international trade and the impact of rising global energy prices. The representative of the Federation of Columbia emphasized the importance of maintaining smooth trade routes. Meanwhile, the Republic of Zhonghua delegation stressed that economic pressure is not the way to resolve conflicts. The atmosphere gradually heated up, though remaining within diplomatic bounds.
When the Republic of Arvenia was called, Verlando stood tall.
“The Republic of Arvenia urges all nations to prioritize dialogue once again. Differences in interests must not sacrifice the fate of people worldwide.”
That brief yet firm statement once again caught the attention of journalists.
Followed by the Kingdom of Veloria. Zera walked calmly to the podium.
“International trade should be a bridge of brotherhood, not a weapon to deepen hostility.”
The statement was met with enthusiastic applause. Ando also clapped, longer than when the previous speaker had finished.
Nathan glanced sideways with a faint smile. “For the second time today, Minister.”
“What do you mean?”
“You clapped the longest for her.”
Ando merely smiled without giving an answer.
Approaching the lunch break, Verlando walked ahead towards the main corridor, arranging his session notes. Suddenly, a folder slipped from someone’s hand, scattering across the floor. Without hesitation, he immediately knelt to help pick them up. As he rose, he found Zera looking at him, holding back a laugh.
“It seems scattered folders are inseparable from our encounters,” Zera said as she received her documents back.
Ando chuckled softly. “Thankfully, this time it’s not as many as on the first day.”
Nathan, who had just caught up, also smiled widely. “I’m beginning to suspect that folders are indeed the true intermediaries of fate.”
Livia, who arrived later, also suppressed a laugh. “Hopefully, this doesn’t become a tradition throughout the session.”
The four of them laughed together for a moment, a simple laughter that was enough to ease the heavy tension felt throughout the session earlier.
They were unaware that from the second floor of the building, behind a window, the man in the gray suit was again standing silently observing them. His phone rang.
“How are things progressing?” asked a cold voice from the other end of the line.
“They are interacting more often, appearing friendly yet professional.”
“Still limited to state affairs?”
“So far, yes.”
“Keep monitoring their every move. Don’t miss a single detail.”
The man ended the call, staring intently at Verlando and Zera, who were now beginning to part ways in different directions.
“I hope you two are truly just diplomatic colleagues…” he murmured softly.
Meanwhile, both were unaware that now it wasn’t just the media watching their every step. There were other eyes secretly compiling information, as if waiting for the opportune moment to exploit the budding closeness. The wheel of fate, it turned out, spun further than mere coincidental meetings on the UN grounds. The real conflict was only about to begin, but its shadow was slowly starting to loom over every step they took.
