Clarice Park's POV:
I couldn't believe my luck! We were finally in the Philippines, and I was going to make the most of it. As we settled into our dorm at Sta. Maria University, I couldn't help but notice the girl unpacking her bags. She looked... different. Not like the other students here. She was quiet, reserved, and had a look of determination in her eyes. I loved her already.
"Hey, I'm Clarice!" I said, trying to break the ice. "And you are...?"
The girl looked up, startled. "S-Safina," she stammered. Her eyes darted to my designer clothes, and I could see the calculation in her mind. She was wondering if she was worthy to be friends with me.
I grinned, putting on my brightest smile. "Nice to meet you, Safina! I'm so glad we're roommates!" I bounced over to her and gave her a quick hug. She stiffened, but I didn't let go. I knew she needed a little push.
Cleo, my twin brother, raised an eyebrow. "Sis, don't scare her off," he said, his voice low and smooth. He was always the protective one, but I knew he was just looking out for me.
I shot him a look. "Shut up, Cleo. I'm just being friendly." I turned back to Safina, who was now smiling tentatively. "So, Safina, what do you like to do?"
Safina's eyes lit up. "I love reading... and gaming," she said, her voice a little stronger.
I squealed. "Oh my gosh, me too! I'm obsessed with that new RPG game. Have you played it?"
Safina nodded, and we launched into a conversation about our favorite games and characters. Cleo rolled his eyes and flopped onto his bed, but I knew he was listening.
As we talked, I realized that Safina was more than just a quiet, reserved girl. She was smart, witty, and had a hidden spark. I was determined to bring it out.
Cleo Park's POV:
I watched as my sister went on and on about how great it was going to be to have Safina as a roommate. I wasn't so sure. Safina seemed nice, but she was a scholarship student. I didn't want Clarice getting too close to her, just to be hurt later.
But Clarice was insistent. She was determined to be friends with Safina, and I knew I couldn't stop her. So I played it cool, pretending not to care. But I was watching, always watching.
As we walked to our first class, I noticed the way people looked at us. The rich kids, the popular kids, they all stared at us like we were something special. And then I saw them - the bullies, picking on a poor kid in the corner. My sister's eyes narrowed, and I knew we were in for a scene.
"Cleo, let's go," she said, her voice firm.
I sighed. "Let it go, sis." But I followed her, ready to intervene if needed.
The bullies laughed, but Clarice didn't back down. She stood tall, her eyes flashing with anger. "Hey, leave him alone," she said, her voice firm.
The bullies sneered, but I could see the fear in their eyes. They knew who we were. "Or what, Park twin? You gonna cry?"
Clarice's eyes flashed, but I stepped in. "Yeah, she might. And I'll make sure you regret it if you don't back off."
The bullies snirked, but they backed off. Clarice turned to the kid, who was staring at us in shock. "Hey, you okay?"
The kid nodded, and Clarice smiled. "Good. Let's go to class."
As we walked, Safina kept looking at my sister like she was a superhero. I knew the feeling. Clarice had that effect on people.
Safina's POV:
I couldn't believe what was happening. The Park twins, famous and rich, were standing up for me. Clarice was beaming with confidence, and Cleo... Cleo looked like he was bored, but I saw the hint of a smile.
The bullies backed off, and Clarice turned to me. "Hey, you okay?"
I nodded, feeling a lump in my throat. "Y-yeah, thanks."
Cleo spoke up. "Let's go, sis. We have class."
Clarice grinned. "Yeah, let's go!"
As we walked, Clarice started talking about all the things we were going to do together. I couldn't help but smile. Maybe this was going to be okay.
I had been so worried about fitting in, about being accepted. But Clarice and Cleo... they were different. They didn't care about my clothes or my background. They just wanted to be friends.
As we entered the classroom, I felt a sense of belonging. Maybe this was the start of something amazing.
Cleo's POV:
I couldn't help but notice the way Safina looked at my sister - with admiration, with gratitude. It was... nice. But I wasn't going to let my guard down. Not yet.
As we walked to class, I heard whispers. "Park twins... rich kids... what's their deal?"
I tuned them out, focusing on my sister. She was happy, and that's all that mattered.
But as I looked at Safina, I saw something there. Something that made me want to protect her, too. She was fragile, like a bird with broken wings. I didn't want her to get hurt.
But I knew Clarice was right. Safina was worth it.
Clarice's POV:
I was so excited! Safina was already fitting in perfectly. We had lunch together, and she was laughing at my jokes. Cleo was being his usual grumpy self, but I knew he was enjoying it.
As we walked back to the dorm, Safina mentioned something about being worried about being seen with us. I was taken aback. "What do you mean?" I asked.
Safina looked down. "I don't want to be a burden..."
I stopped her. "Safina, you're not a burden. You're my friend." I hugged her, and she hugged me back.
Cleo spoke up. "Yeah, sis. Don't be dramatic."
I glared at him. "Shut up, Cleo."
Safina smiled. "Thanks, guys."
As we entered the dorm, I knew this was just the beginning of something amazing.
Cleo's POV:
I watched as my sister hugged Safina, and something inside me shifted. Maybe this was going to be okay.
As I lay in bed that night, I heard Safina whisper, "Thanks, Clarice... thanks for being my friend."
I smiled, just a little. Maybe I was wrong about Safina.
