Su Han kept his eyes fixed on the young man until the other party quietly left the Mission Hall.
He immediately found an excuse to leave as well, following him out.
"I'm a new Ability User, and I can't find anyone to take missions with. Do you have any teammates? Should we team up?"
Su Han stopped the young man with a familiar, easygoing air.
The other party froze for a moment before quickly hiding the sadness on his face.
"Sorry, I don't take missions outside the city."
A strange guess formed in Su Han's mind.
"If you don't go out of the city to scavenge for supplies, you won't have anything to eat. How can you possibly not go out?" He shook his head. "If you want to find an excuse to reject me, at least make it believable."
"No, that's not it!" The young man grew a bit anxious. "I'm a Water-type Ability User. The chief... Chief Wang won't let me leave the city."
Water-type ability users are highly protected; he only needs to stay in the city and produce water.
Su Han stuffed two zombie crystal cores into his hand and pulled out an empty mineral water bottle.
The young man understood his intent and, without being stingy, raised his hand to grasp the empty bottle. Ten seconds later, there was half a bottle of sloshing water inside.
He wasn't lying; to be able to do this, he had reached at least the strength of a low-level Ability User.
He was much stronger than those pathetic water droplets of Wang Jiafu.
Just as the two of them finished their transaction, two guards in combat uniforms came over and took the young man away.
It made sense for such talent to be highly protected, but seeing the young man's dejected expression, Su Han couldn't help but feel that the two guards weren't just protecting him, but also monitoring him.
After a moment of thought, he took the bottle of water back to the Mission Hall and deliberately showed it off to those hooligan soldiers with great excitement:
"Look, I just bought half a bottle of water from a Water-type Ability User."
The hooligan soldier lifted his eyelids to take a look. "You're talking about Zhao Guang, right?"
"I don't know him, but he was just taken away by a few people."
"Those are the people Chief Wang sent to protect him. Our base only has one capable Water-type Ability User like him. He almost died during the last zombie siege, so we have to protect him well."
Su Han blinked. "Oh, so he's the Water-type Ability User that Chief Wang saved?"
Once Zhao Guang's identity was confirmed, things became much easier.
Su Han chatted a bit more with the people in the Mission Hall, turned down invitations from several teams, and leisurely headed home.
Just kidding; he was currently keeping a man hidden outside, and if he teamed up with others, wouldn't that make it impossible to keep it a secret?
In the afternoon, he used the excuse of going out to scavenge for supplies again, took some food, water, and medicine, left the base, and arrived at the small shack where he had hidden Shen Chengyin.
Shen Chengyin was still in a deep sleep, and the water and food Su Han had placed beside him earlier remained untouched.
"When will the male lead wake up? He hasn't burned his brain out, has he?" Su Han touched Shen Chengyin's forehead.
The fever had broken.
ใAwakening a Ability should take at least two or three days. The male lead's Ability is so strong, maybe it will take even longer.ใ
The System stammered, unable to explain clearly.
ใAnyway, he's the male lead; he won't die no matter what. You just need to complete the mission.ใ
"Can I go back to my original world once the mission is complete?" Su Han asked.
ใOf course.ใ The System answered firmly.
A few blurry white shadows flashed through Su Han's mind.
He could no longer remember what his previous world was like, but it must have been happier than life in The Apocalypse.
Su Han became even more determined to complete the mission and go home.
He spent some more time feeding Shen Chengyin water and medicine, left some food, and then departed.
On his way back to the base, passing by the chief's office building, Su Han saw a group of guards in black combat uniforms gathered downstairs, shouting about something he couldn't quite make out.
He specifically leaned in to listen and asked a few passersby who were also watching the spectacle, only to realize that the guards of Xiwang Base were making a scene.
The guards and security personnel were the ones who worked for the chief in the base, a group carefully selected by Shen Chengyin when he first established the base.
They usually didn't go out to scavenge for supplies; they were responsible for maintaining order in the base. Their food and clothing were provided by the base.
But over the last two days, they discovered that the food issued by the base was not only not fresh, but some of it had even spoiled.
This was something that had never happened in the three months since Xiwang Base was established.
Su Han sneered inwardly.
Without Shen Chengyin's storage space, the food with short shelf lives that had been stockpiled before the end of the world would naturally spoil at an extremely fast rate.
The entire base couldn't consume such a massive amount of food in a short time, and Wang Jiafu was running out of ways to hide it.
The spoiled food couldn't be dealt with, and it would also contaminate the other supplies in the Warehouse.
If Wang Jiafu wanted to continue covering this up, he would have to find a way to dispose of that batch of spoiled food.
Over the next few days, Su Han went out of the city during the day to take care of Shen Chengyin and scavenge for supplies, and after returning to the city at night, he had to keep a close eye on Wang Jiafu's people. He was so exhausted he felt dizzy, and dark circles had formed under his eyes.
But since he entered the base, he liked to keep to himself and hadn't made any friends, so naturally, no one cared about him.
Hard work pays off. After watching Wang Jiafu for nearly a week, Su Han finally saw with his own eyes two trucks leaving the Warehouse of Xiwang Base.
Wang Jiafu was very cautious, specifically choosing the time between three and four in the morning when no one was around, and he even had the gate guards sent away.
Presumably, because the quantity of spoiled food was so large and it was piled up in the Warehouse, the stench must have been overwhelming. Wang Jiafu couldn't hide it anymore, so he had no choice but to transport it out.
Su Han followed far behind the two trucks, betting that they wouldn't go too far.
With zombies running rampant outside, the truck engines were too loud; driving too far would be no different than courting death.
Sure enough, ten minutes later, the two trucks stopped in an open wasteland near Xiwang Base.
Four men in combat uniforms got out of the trucks, holding iron shovels.
Two of them buried their heads in digging the soil, while the other two were responsible for unloading the spoiled food from the trucks.
They wanted to bury the spoiled food.
Su Han understood this, but he wasn't in a hurry.
There were only four of them; burying two trucks' worth of food in a pit wasn't that easy.
The four of them huffed and puffed, working for a long time until the horizon began to turn white. They knew they were out of time, so they could only hurriedly bury half, while the remaining half was casually covered with weeds.
Su Han followed them back to the base, and as expected, the guards at the gate had been moved away again.
That actually made things convenient for him.
Su Han sneered and went out and came back, and no one noticed.
He rubbed his weary shoulders, preparing to get a good night's sleep. He wouldn't go out to scavenge for supplies today.
Anyway, Shen Chengyin hadn't woken up yet, and he hadn't seen him eat anything in the last few days, so the male lead wouldn't die if he skipped a day.
Thinking this, he casually closed the door. Just as he was about to lie down and rest, he heard shouting coming from the street:
"Catch him!"
"Don't let him get away!"
"Damn it, we lost him!"
It was probably a few guards chasing someone.
Su Han wasn't interested in this; it had nothing to do with him anyway.
He locked the door, and as he turned around, a tall figure was standing silently behind him like a ghost.
Su Han was fucking terrified out of his wits.
