The crying echoed down the hallway as his feet padded on the floor. With a Fist rubbing his eye, he grabbed the handle of the door gently and opened it. His thin figure enetered the room silently─Toys were scattered on the pastel blue carpet and a big plush bear leaning on the desk.
His eyes softened at the little boy crying in his small bed, extending his arms, he picked him up hugging him tightly and stroking his soft black hair. "Shh~ I am here now, don't cry baby". He whispered softly, rocking the child and lulling him to sleep again. It was another night when he already knew the boy will cry again so he had to stay awake for him.
"Yuan-Ge?". Another sleepy voice called, the other little boy got up from his bed and padded to his older brother that was now sitting on the bed. "Did A-Lan cry again tonight?". He asked while glancing at his twin. Yuan nodded and smiled softly. The fragile boy in his arms eventually fell asleep again after the cuddling and the warm body of his brother. Wang Yuan tucked him in bed again and put his palm againt his forehead─checking his temperature. Sighing in relief, he gave him a kiss on the cheek before turning around to the other twin that observed his little brother sleeping soundly. A hint of concern written on his face.
"A-Ling, let me put you back to bed okay?". He said stroking Ling's cheek and ruffling his hair. The small boy nodded and climbed the bed─giving one last glance to his sleeping twinn he waited for his brother to cover him with the fluffy blanket. Wang Yuan held the blanket up and covered him, making sure that cold can't go through to his small body. "Sleep tight A-Ling~". He said before kissing his forehead.
Once both of them slept again, Wang Yuan yawned and stretched his limbs─giving them one last glance. He walked towards the door. Closing it behind him, he sighed and went back to his room─body begging for rest and eyes almost closing. Once inside his room, Yuan throw himself on the comfy bed annd turned his head to the nightstand.
The digital clock read 5:40am.
His eyes widened and he jolted up from the bed. Hurrying to the bathroom, he turned on the hot water and stripped─he needs to be quick. Yuan washed his hair with shampoo and cleaned his body before rinsing and grabbing the towel. He wrapped it around him and left the shower.
Yuan paired a light blue jeans with a pastel yellow big shirt. He sighed when the clock ticked 6:30am─he still have time to make breakfast to his younger brothers. Brushing his soft hair, he went towards the kitchen and grabbed the pan. 'pancakes and milk will do', he smiled and started cooking.
Half an hour passed, two plates of pancakes with chocolate and strawberries on top were placed on the table along with two cups of milk. Yuan washed his hands at the sink and made his way down the hallway to his brother's room.
"Rise and shine sweeties~". He cheered while knocking the door slightly. Receiving no response, Yuan opened it gently and walked in, the sight was warming his heart: Wang Ling held his fragile twin Wang Lan tightly, stroking his hair and kissing his cheeks.
"Good morning A-Ling". Yuan said and sat down on the bed. Wang Ling looked over at him and blushed, letting go of his brother, he replied with a quick 'morning' and left the room. The older brother chuckled and looked over atWang Lan. He extended his hand and stroked his cheek gently. "A-Ling, sweetie, wake up~". He whispered.
The small eyes opened gently and blinked away the dried tears from hours ago. He got up softly and smiled at his brother. "Yuan-Ge". He called while extending his arms for a hug. Yuan cooed and pulled his sibling for a tight hug. "How did you sleep baby?". He asked, the little boy smiled. "I slept good!". He exclaimed with a giggle.
Getting up from the bed, Yuan walked to the kitchen while patting his brother's back. "Good, good". Placing him on the chair next to Wang Ling who already digged into the pancakes─cheeks smeared with chocolate. Yuan sat infront of them, a big genuine smile plastered on his soft features. "Is it tasty A-Ling?". He asked with a teasing tone─he knows how much A-Ling loves chocolate and pancakes and this breakfast was a dreamy combination of the two.
Wang Ling glared at his elder brother and sipped his milk refusing to answer. However, his twin brother, A-Lan, who swallowed his first bite, gave a small thumb up and hummed. "It's yummy Yuan-Ge! thank you". He bowed his head slightly and Yuan chuckled. "Anytime honey, eat up now, auntie will be here any minute". The twins nodded finishing their food.
Before Yuan get up to get his books, the bell rang followed by a soft knock. The boy stood up from the chair and went to open the door. He smiled widely at the sight of his only Aunt─Yu Jia-Li.
She was a decent lady who owns a bakery shop, she was there for them after their parent's death. Taking care of them and helping them with eveeything until Yuan bought a house to live with his brothers. Still, Aunt Jia-Li kept checking on them, especially looking after the young twins while their brother went to college.
"Auntie!". Wang Lan climbed off his chair and run for a big hug. Jia-Li chuckled and welcomed the small child in her arms. Yuan held a soft smile. After getting inside the house, the aunt placed a basket on the table. "What did you bring Auntie?". Yuan asked softly. She smiled and poked his cheeks. "Lunch and dinner sweetie". She said while pulling out the food containers and placed them in the fridge. "But auntie weren't you used to cook here? I went shopping yesterday, I bought the veget-".
"Shh~ I am taking the twins somewhere and I can't stay and cook here so I made food at my house". She explained with a hand on his shoulder. Yuan nodded understandingly. "Where are you taking them?". He asked again.
"Young boy, there you go with the questions". She chuckled shaking her head as Yuan whispered a 'sorry' while smiling sheepishly. "Well I will take them to the zoo". She said as the twins exclaimed and cheered, they were happy as it seems. Wang Yuan smiled gently and nodded understandingly. The kids needed to have some fun after all.
"Well Auntie I will head to university now, text me when you get back home". He said while kissing his brothers. Jia-Li nodded as she started feeding them fruits.
Grabbing his keys and bag, Wang Yuan walked out of the house and into the fresh air. It was a beautiful spring day, as always birds chirped and the sky was clear blue. He started walking down the street and smiled at the passersby, whom he knows and the kids who are clinging to their parents.
Wang Yuan always smiled, even though his life wasn't a happy one. Not now, not before.
It is still hunting him.
