Chapter 1

The cold darkness. No sun. No lights. Something covering my eyes. No sound. I couldn’t hear anything at all. Something clogging my ears. A sudden pain that was coming from my back. It was way passed bearable. It hurt like hell. It felt like a long time had passed. Tears covered my face with warmth. There was a strong smell of blood. Falling to the ground I wasn’t touching, I felt the warmth of my own blood before my mind left me.

In this world people are born with wings to represent their purity. People born with wings and powers are destined for great things. But, you can also earn your powers later on in life. If your wings fall off, then that’s when commit a crime you cannot fix.

My older brother’s ex boyfriend had clipped my wings. He blamed me for his wings falling off. But, in truth he did that to himself m. He killed innocent people who were after my brother, cole. I had a conversation with him that I shouldn’t have brought up.

Waking up in the hospital bed I saw my mother, father, and cole sleeping to the right of me. Trying to sit up but ended up back to the bed. I yelled in pain from landing to hard on my back. Everyone in the room woke up. My mother rushed to my side and grabbed my hand.

“Mika, my dear baby! Are you alright!”

“Yes mom, I’m fine. I just felt a bit of pain.”

My dad came up to me with an angry look, “This was your damn brother’s fault! Because of him, his ex had chopped off your wings after losing his!”

“Father,” I said calmly. “I brought this upon myself. I had looked into his past by using a spell I made and confronted him with something I shouldn’t have brought up.”

Everyone in the room went silent. My brother was confused. He wanted me to explain what I had meant. So I did. I explained how I made a spell to show me someone’s true colors. His ex was known for jealousy, so I wanted to make sure how he would react if my brother were to cheat on him like all the others. He took it badly and made sure no one was going to take my brother away from him. No matter what he had to do; even if it meant killing them.

I had to tell the same story to the police, then repeat it at court. He was stripped to nothing. No wings, no title, no name, no life. They had executed him. Well me on the other hand was able to leave unscathed. I was one out of 1,000,000,000 people to be able to make their own spells, let alone born with it. The first spell I made can only be used if the person has the right intentions and pure from certain ill intentions in their past. My actions were justified and I kept what was left of my wings and powers because I didn’t do anything bad. They would have fallen off naturally if I did something wrong anyway. But, me having to powers I have I had privilege.

At home cole was having it hard. He was sadder than usual and stayed home. He felt guilty for what happened to me. For two years he never even got a boyfriend. But he finally started acted happy again because of him... Cole’s new boyfriend. Our parents didn’t even know he got a new boyfriend for about 4 months.
