There was once a little girl called Mary.
She had plenty of toys, and plenty of good things to eat, and yet she always wanted someting else.
If She had a curly-haired doll in her pram and saw some one else with a straight-haired doll, She wanted that.
If she had a white teddy-bear and saw a brown one,she wanted that. She just wanted everything.
One day, her Auntie asked her what she would like for her birthday ,and Mary thought hard.
"I wanted a new dolly's pram," She said.
"A green one, with a hood and a cover and everything."
So her auntie bought her a doll's pram ,and really, it was the loveliest one you can imagine.
Juat like a real pram. It even had a brake on one wheel, and a green cover with "M"
on it for Mary
Mary was pleased. "I shall take it out this morning." She said.
" And every one will see it and wish they had a pram like it."
So she took it out, and it shone very brightly in the spring sunshine. Soon she meet Luli in her little red motor-car, and she called to her:
"Look at my lovely new pram! Don't you wish it was yours?"
"Well, you look at my red motor-car," Said Luli.
"It's better than a pram. You can get in it and ride about. But you have to push a pram. My motor-car is nicer than your pram."
Mary felt upset. The little red motor-car did look nice. What a pity she hadn't asked her aunt for one !
"Luli, would you like my pram in exchange for your motor-car?" She said suddenly.
"You haven't got a pram , have you ?"
Luli hopped out of her car in a trice and took the pram-handles, her eyes shining.
"You can have my car," She said.
"Good-bye, Mary." And off she went very happily.
Mary got into the car. It was very nice, and it had a hooter she could press to make a nice
..."Honk-honk" sound....
She rode down the stret in the motor-car, honking all the way. Soon she met Dave and he stared at the car.
Dave was wheeling a fine barrow, with a bright blue wheel, a yellow body, and blue handles.
It looked very grand.
"Hallo, Dave!" Said Mary.
"Look at my lovely new motor-car ! Don't you wish it was yours ? "
"well, you look at my lovely barrow, " said Dave .
" No-body's got one like it. Do you see its blue wheel ? It is so useful too - you can carry anything you like in it. It is nicer than your car."
Marry stared crossly. The barrow did look nice.
What a pity she hadn't asked her aunt for one !
"Dave , would you like my car in exchange for your barrow ?". She said.
