Deceptive Truth

Deceptive Truth

Greetings

It was a regular Monday morning, and I was meeting with my friends outside my newly-built, charming, High School.

“Hey, Chloe! Hi, Melanin!”, I shout, eagerly.

“Hi, Bailey!”, they both yell at the same time, as if they were some type of twins.

“I have missed you two so much! The weekend was totally boring and dull. Good thing I at least played tennis on Saturday. If not for my match, I think that I would’ve probably been dead right now.”, I say, my voice quickly changing rapidly from my sorrowful voice, to my cheerful.

“Before I forget I need to ask you about something!”, I say as I am glaring at Chloe, “Chloe, please tell me that you went out with James this weekend!”, I quickly say without letting Chloe mutter out a single word.

“Well, DUH! Of course I did! I promised I would.. why are you asking?”

“Well.. I didn’t see you at the Mc’Cook-And-Eat diner.”

“Oh. Sorry! I forgot to tell you, we actually went ice skating instead.”, She is acting suspiciously. I notice that, but hide it so she wouldn’t notice.

“Ah, I understand. It’s alright! Really though, this is none of my business anyways.”, I state. I don’t know if I actually meant it, though.

“Okay! Talk to you in school, I gotta go”, I say. I briskly scurry to the entrance of my school, since school starts in exactly 2 minutes, and I don’t want to be late… I’ve been late too many times this year, and I didn’t want to get suspended. I was already getting teased enough by my parents. I didn’t want to upset my parents anymore. I just can’t. 1 minute left. I was almost there. Just a little bit more.

RING!

Oh no. I’m gonna be late. I watch as all the other students enter the school. No. No. NO! This can’t be happening right now. I can’t be late this time. NOT TODAY! I speed up, and I finally make it inside. Sweat is streaming down my neck unstably. I hurriedly walk to my classroom. As I walk, I see classrooms A1, A2, A3, A- oh! That’s my classroom. As I enter my class, I can feel people’s eyes gawking at me. Why is that? Because I’m late? AM I WEARING MISS-MATCHES CLOTHES? I swifty look down, facing my clothes. Everything looks normal. Oh. I know why they are looking at me like that. I shrug it off, and sit down next to Emily. I still haven’t caught my breath, and it was hard paying attention to the teacher.

“Bailey Anderson, you are late again. This is your last warning! You were only 10 minutes late today, but if this happens again, you will be suspended for 2 days.”, My teacher remarks. I hear muffled whispers and quiet laughter, but it doesn’t concern me. Not even a little - or at least that’s how I wanted to think and feel. I look around nervously. Looks like everyone has calmed down a bit.

“Hey have you heard? Bailey-”, I hear people say, but before they have a chance to finish their sentence, the teacher starts explaining the math problem, making the rest of their sentence sound all muffled up. I just want to go die in a hole. This is so embarrassing. How did they know about this? I look to my left, and see Emily. She is acting normal. Well, at least someone is acting ordinary today. But what if this is not what they are talking about?

“Anderson, why don’t you do this math problem for us? Bailey? BAILEY ANDERSON!”, Oh no. I completely zoned out and heard nothing my teacher said. Everyone is staring at me. I look at the board, totally lost. 3*4(3x+23+v)-12x… I’m lucky that the answer is that easy! I do the equation in my head, as I stroll to the chalkboard. 23x+354... damn it! I didn’t write down the correct answer. I carefully, but quickly, erase what I wrote on the board with the palm of my hand. Again. 24x+324. Right. I don’t think anyone noticed. Thank god.

“Correct, Bailey! You may take a seat.” I stride back to my seat, trying to not attract much attention. I don’t think that was possible, though, or at least in my case. The rest of class flew by, and soon I was already eating lunch. Well, I wanted to be eating it. I was standing in the line, when I saw my two best friends right in front of me, chatting.

“Chloe, Melanin! What’s up?”, I exclaim, excitedly

“OMG! Hi bestie!”, Chloe squeals back. Chloe was a typical blond girl that every boy in our school fell for. Her eyes were the ocean. She herself was that ocean as well. If someone knew how to swim, they would have a chance to survive, while if they didn’t, then they’d drown. While Melanin is usually pretty quiet, has beautiful, silky, copper hair.

“Hi, Bailey!”, Melanin says enthusiastically.

“I just had math class. God it was so embarrassing! I was late for school AGAIN, and I kept on zoning out. Mr. Welch called on me while I was in the middle of my day dream. Ugh, so mean! I was just getting to the good part..hey! I know that I’m going to keep on babbling on, so you guys talk!”, I voice, waiting for a reply.

“Eh, class was boring like usual.”, Melanin utters, dismally.

“I just HATE school! Even though it is the middle of January, it just feels like school is coming to an end. Or at least I want it too haha. MCAS is in 3 months, but I already feel like I’m gonna fail and die of shame.”, Chloe notes, which only makes me remember about it now. If I fail MCAS, then my parents will literally kill me. I can’t fail MCAS. I won’t graduate school then!

I look around and see him. Jake. He came. “Umm hold up, I’ll be right back.” I rush over to Jake, who is a boy I’ve been crushing for forever. So far we are on the ”friends” level.

“Hey Jake! Glad to see you back. Did your dad get mad about the party-?”

“Oh hi there. Yeah he got mad. I was grounded for these past few weeks. Sorry for not being able to warn you about it.”

“No, don’t even worry about it! It was all my fault. It was my idea anyways, and if you were grounded, how would you have told me about everything that happened, right? Hahaha!”

“Yes, yes. I would’ve snuck out, but I was afraid of getting into more trouble. My dad is already really angry at me, it will just upset him even more.”, Jake stated in an upset voice, though unintentionally. Suddenly, i felt really bad. This whole party was my idea. This is all my fault. His father already hates my guts and if he finds out this was my idea, he will resent me even more. When his father was leaving on a business trip, I thought it was the perfect time to throw a party, and invite some people. Well, it was supposed to be “some”. We invited about 40 people, not including Jake and I. Turns out that the business trip got cancelled, and as soon as his father found out about the “false alarm”, he came back home with great speed. Well of course, it felt like it, but at least we got to party for a couple of hours. Jake told me that he has hosted a party once, and after that his father forbade him from going to parties and hosting them. Jake won’t tell me what he did at that party that made his dad mad. I have this feeling it’s about a girl. I want to know what happened, but at the same time I don’t. Sometimes I have those moments when I want to find out what happened, but again, it might upset him...I don’t want that to happen.

“Again, I’m very sorry. I really didn’t want you to get in trouble. This is all my fault. You have every right to be mad at me, and ignore me. Bye for now-”

“Wait! Bailey! I’m totally not mad at you...I’m just a little downcast from all of this. Yeah, I’ll talk to you later. I’m going to go get my lunch. My locker is pretty far away, and the lunch bell is about to ring. Bye!”, Jake abruptly stated.

Soon afterwards, Jake hurriedly walked over to his locker. I certainly didn’t want to disturb him, yet again, I found myself calling his name and saying things without being able to process my actions before hand.

“Hey Jake! I have one quick question...” I shouted at the top of my lungs (not really)

He suddenly stopped and turned around, facing me. Though he had a weird look on his face. Yep, I think I’m disturbing him.

“Yeah what is it??” He eargerly asked.

I feel a chill down my spine.

What in the actual hell did I just do? *
