Carmen sighed as there was no sign of anyone. He opened the door to the pantry and crept out slowly, he made sure not to knock any of the food over on his way out. No signs of Aunt Lucy.
Carmen wasn't like other kids his age, he was more mature than many of the adults he grew up around. He was more mature than his adopted father. But he still was naive in many ways as a child of his age should be.
It made no sense for Aunt Lucy to be missing. She was too old to be taken by the soldiers.
Carmen grabbed all three of Mrs. Lucy's kitchen knives and hid two in either one of his sleeves and hid the last one in his pants.
His eyes glinted in a way a ten year old's eyes shouldn't. He was bloodthirsty, scared of what would happen to his beloved village.
He was angry that the people he loved are being affected just because of the way he was born. He resented his destiny but who was he to defy it?
Carmen looked out the window and saw a terrifying scene! Armed soldiers were pulling villagers out of their house's, showing no mercy to those who didn't comply. The people he loved were killed with no remorse.
Is this who he looked up to? A crown prince who slaughters civilians for not? Now he understood why his father got mad at him, the dragons weren't important at all, this was reality. Reality of what kind of crown prince he is.
'Ah, so this is what anger feels like' Carmen thought as he wrapped a cloth around his forehead, covering his yin and yang symbol.
He walked out of aunt lucy's little hut and immediately got spotted by the guards. Carmen let them arrest him and was shoved along with other villagers. The villagers looked and watched Carmen in despair, they were trying to hide him from the Crown prince.
"Such a tight grip on a child," Carmen commented, provoking the guard who was bruising his wrists.
"Shut up, peasant!" The guard yelled and slapped Carmen. All the villagers stopped in shock and the guards pushing them did too.
"Enough, comply with them or would you like your life to be for not?" Carmen said and the villagers did as told like they were spellbound. The guards started pushing them again while the guard on Carmen kept watch on him.
After a short walk, all the villagers were pushed into the town hall. Two men sat in front of them, a sixteen year old and a fourteen year old.
Carmen's adopted dad was with them too. He was kneeling in front of them, beaten up. When he met eyes with Carmen he looked like his world was about to end.
Carmen sat on the ground next to the baker and a mother. The people around him shielded him with their bodies, protecting him from the eyes of the Crown prince and the Fourth prince.
Carmen loved them for doing so, but it would just draw attention in the end. Carmen whispered a thanks and chuckled a little. The townspeople around him looked at him with sad eyes. They knew they were gonna die today if his identity was figured out, but more so they wanted to protect Carmen from the royals.
