Never had I ever imagined my fate to take such a sharp dreadful turn! Who would have thought Daddy’s lil girl is now running away from him.
My feet are having their own mind right now, tapping non-stop. I have a choice to make. Either I go back and do as dad wants or run away as far as I can. Right now I’m holding a flight ticket to Virginia with a fake passport and fake Id, courtesy my brother. Everything is set there. My admission procedures are completed including the place where I’ll stay, but can I do this? Can I leave everyone here? Can I stay away from them?
No. My subconscious mind says.
But I have to. I can’t always compile to dad’s wishes. I have my own life to live, my own career to flourish. I have to do this, for myself.
I shudder at the thought of dad’s probable reaction when he finds out that I’m gone.
I try to ignore my thoughts and gather myself for a journey of lifetime, my struggle against my fate.
I spent most of time sleeping during the flight, cause that helped me avoid any unwanted thoughts that would lead to a breakdown.
I collected my luggage and prepared myself for the worst as there was no turning back now.
I called for a taxi. I gave the driver the address to the apartment I’ll be living in. No one knows where I’ll be living except for Neil, my brother. I owe him a lot. It’s been just few hours and I’m already missing him. I want to talk to him but I can’t. I still remember the way he bid me goodbye. I close my eyes and the memories come flooding back.
“Sia, you gotta take care of yourself there. I won’t be there to protect you. I can’t!” he said hugging me tightly. I hugged him back. Tears were threatening to fall down my eyes.
He pulled back still holding me,
“Now listen carefully cupcake. Your phone and laptop are left in your room right?”
I nodded in response.
“Good. You can’t use your accounts there otherwise dad will track you down. A friend of mine will meet you at the apartment there to give you keys and your new credit card. You can spend as much as you want and they will be addressed as Avery Shantner. Another thing is that you can’t contact anyone here. Remember that Sia, no one.”
This was it. The dam overflowed with tears non-stop. The thought of being all alone in a foreign country was scaring the hell out of me.
He wiped my tears using his hand.
“Please don’t cry cupcake” his voice came out hoarse. I couldn’t stop myself and hugged him again tightly hoping his isn’t the last time I’m seeing him. I knew dad would keep tabs on him once I escape his confinement.
“I’ll come to see you soon, I promise” he said releasing me. I could see he was holding back his tears.
Whilst all the strength we together could sum up, we parted.
My journey down the memory lane was interrupted by the driver’s voice.
“Ma’am we’ve arrived.”
I looked out of the window to see a beautiful skyscraper trying to reach the clouds. I paid the driver through the few
dollars Neil gave me.
I climbed down the taxi with my luggage. I was still looking at the skyscraper upfront.
This was it. Realization hit me hard. I was all alone in this country. My eyes started brimming with tears.
Suddenly there was a hand on my shoulder. I turned to look at the intruder who dared so.
