I Hope We Don't End Up Together

I Hope We Don't End Up Together

21 years, here I come!

The day finally came, it was the day I was meant to drink all the things I wanted in years and party how long I wanted to. No excuses, no excess, no barriers to overcome, just me and a lot of choices from Garret's bar. Eva was with me too, but she was used to these nights, I was the youngest friend of the group so she was the only one who wanted to go to a party with me, the rest of the group was already looking for apartments and dealing with adult life.

"So, what's the name of this again?" I asked for the third time in the same minute.

"I don't remember. Ask the bartender!" she whispered later "He is so hot."

"I heard it. And there's not a name for it yet. Unusual, I know. You can call it Thomas, because I made it. Or you can call it whatever you want, I don't care." the bartender said, he looked a bit emo.

"He is so confusing. There's another one you would like me to talk to? I'm all about taking risks today, baby!"

"Let me see...How about that one?" she said, and pointed right at the person I couldn't stop wondering about from the second I entered that karaoke bar. My only thought was that I had to sing a song, I just had to.

I almost took the woman who was singing the second song in a row and got on the stage. It shocked me when he looked at me. I was wondering if he remembered me or if he was just intrigued by what song that woman would choose. I still think I made it clean like polished glass when the song from The Little Mermaid movie started to play throughout the entire place. I sang looking at him.

"Wouldn't you think I'm the girl, the girl who has everything?" I kept singing, and some people were singing with me too, probably all drunk. "What would I give if I could live out of these waters, what would I pay to spend a day warm on the saaaaand?"

When I finished, I got out of the stage and walked past the guy I was hesitant to meet some minutes ago, now I was a little more relaxed about it. That day was the day I would let all go, the past is in the past, and I was excited with my future.

"I almost forgot you were obsessed with Disney." Tyler said, looking at me. Eva was signing that I was doing great, and turned around to talk to an actually hot guy. I realised I probably was going to be stuck with Tyler till the end of the night.

"Stop already, okay? I'm not in the mood for your silly jokes."

"I think you should just drink more, maybe you can find your prince today."

"I agree with more alcohol, but stop joking, all right?"

"Agreed."

We were silent for some minutes that seemed like an eternity. He was going to say something, but he stopped.

"Another joke?"

"No, I need to ask you something."

"And the question is?"

"Are you seeing someone?"

"Are you serious?"

"I just want to know, curiosity can kill the cat."

"No, I'm not seeing anyone." and I couldn't believe I was having that conversation. "And you're not a cat."

Why didn't I chose a place with somewhere to dance? Next time it'll be so different.

"Shall we sing a song together?"

"What are you talking about?" that was or wasn't that person I met in high school?

"Sing, it's a karaoke, you already forgot where you are?"

"But why would you sing a song with me?"

"Because today is your birthday, and I don't have anything prepared, the only thing I can offer is the possibility of not being ashamed alone in that stage. And I want to sing one song at least today."

"If I say no you are going to keep saying that until I agree with you, right?"

"You can choose whichever song you want."

"A Whole New World is an option?"

"If I say yes you'll go?"

"Yes."

"So yes."

What was I thinking? What was he thinking? Why was he so different? I hope he's not planning something.

We got on the stage and sang together, Tyler's voice is great, mine is bearable. We looked at each other through the entire song. When the song was over, we could hear people screaming for him to kiss me.

We kept looking at each other. And we got closer and closer. Our lips touched, and the shock of what I was doing wasn't enough to let me stop it. We were kissing, and it was good, better than all the ones before. The kiss my prince should have, but that wasn't my prince, that couldn't be him. But why did his hands seemed to fit perfectly in my back? The kiss was over and we couldn't look at each other.

The next singer was already waiting so we got out of the stage and one of his hands was still in my back. When we got back to our seats at the bar, we got to look at each other. At the time our eyes met, we ordered the next drink and I couldn't remember anything else from that night.
