I woke up and I stared at the ceiling for what seemed like some minutes, maybe it was more than some minutes. My mind was trying to put the pieces together. That wasn't my room, and I became pretty sure I wasn't alone when something moved in my bed and someone mumbled.
"What time is it?" The voice brought me back to the other night, and I was shocked, and all I could remember was us singing and what we drank after it.
"Hey, Tyler?" I said. "I think I should go." I couldn't look at his face. Why was he so cool with me being beside him on his bed at 6 am?
"Why, Jasmine?" He knew it was me, but he remembered the fatidic night?
"Do you remember something about yesterday?" I asked not looking at him.
"Yes, don't you?" His voice was weird, but I chose to be honest.
"That's the problem, I don't really remember anything." I said slowly.
"That's not a problem" he turned to me and hugged me "I can make you remember if you want." How did we pass from that thing at the bar to this thing here?
"It's complicated, I'm ashamed to look at you right now" I looked up.
"Don't be. It's okay, I'm going to get some medicine because I think it is the first time you drank so much alcohol." He kissed the side of my mouth out of nowhere and got up the bed "And then we'll talk about all that happened yesterday."
I waited for some time, but the bed seemed too cold for some reason, so I took the first thing I could find, that was his shirt, and put it on, then went to find him. Found him reading some medicine leaflet with glasses on.
"Aren't you a little dizzy?" he asked "I just wanted to see if this would make you feel better or would just make you sleep. Maybe this one works" he handed me a pill.
"I have to pretend I believe you are NOT trying to drug me for some reason?" he stared at me and said nothing "I'm just doing this because you seem to be a nice person right now." I took the pill and he took me by the hand to the sofa.
I looked around and it all was really organized and clean and it didn't looked like someone lived there. The only things that indicated that that apartment had someone there were the pictures framed in the walls. And then something scared me, not something that was supposed to be scary, but I felt the worst person in the world, I had to ask, and he knew I would.
"Are you married?"
"Well, don't you remember? We got married yesterday." He said, as serious as if he was in a court.
"You're kidding me, right?" I almost stop breathing but I still had to be certain about it. It couldn't be.
"Yes, I'm just kidding. But we almost did it."
"But I mean, not about us, about the picture."
"That's my sister and my niece." And because I wasn't saying anything, he continued "I went to visit them where they are living now."
"Some place far?" I asked.
"Well, it's far to go alone. I mean, it's possible to go alone. But sometimes I get sad from staying in a plane and not having anyone to talk to for hours and hours. I just choose to stay home, or go to grandma's house with them which is closer."
"I remember your grandma, she seemed very young at that time. I just remember the time she invited everyone to your birthday party and made that cake, I'll never forget the taste."
"No way you remember that." He lay in my lap and looked at me.
"It tasted like if I just opened a bar of chocolate with strawberries made by the gods. With little sugar drops inside. And I just put the entire bar in my mouth at once." I looked at him as if I could say 'I hope you understand me, this is an awkward situation for me. But I maybe kinda just a little bit like you like this so just let's keep making this work like this.' And I knew for sure he understood me.
"I love that cake, I'm gonna call her and ask her the recipe." I thought he was just joking, but he got the phone and dialed the number, then he got back to where he was before.
"You shouldn't bother her now, leave it for later." I tried to stop him, but he was just waiting for her to answer already.
"Hi, Ty here." he listened to what she said and continued "Everything is good here. Actually I just called to ask for the recipe to make that chocolate cake you made to my birthday." he continued, I couldn't hear her properly "It's not me who's gonna make it."
"You got a girl, Ty?!" the voice bursted from the speakers. "When will I meet her?!"
"We're working things out actually, and you already met her. Do you remember Jasmine?"
"Are you dating the Little Princess?" I could still hear her. My cheeks got red even though she couldn't see me.
"Can we not talk about this right now? She is listening too, grandma."
"Jasmine, darling, please take care of my baby for me, please!"
"I will, promise you!" I said as he handed me the phone, then I handed him back.
"And about the recipe." he asked.
"I won't give you. You have to come and eat here if you want." I could still hear.
"Ask her when." I said.
"When can we go?" he asked.
"I have something this week, but next week you can be here for the seven days."
" So we'll be there Monday evening next week. Love you." he said and put the phone down.
"Is this bad for you?" he asked "If you can't go it's okay, I don't know what I was thinking about."
"That's okay. I'll go, I have nothing to do anyway and I want to see your grandma again."
