The Girl On The Tale

The Girl On The Tale

The King

The sun is setting. Four people are sitting on one of the benches of Central Plaza.

Sia is wearing a black robe and is reading a book on her right hand while playing with her hair. Omega, wearing her green robe, with her usual curious look, is peeking on Sia's book. Loise wearing his not too brown robe is sitting on the ground while piling up small rocks while Leroy wearing his dark red robe is laying on the other bench staring at the sky.

"Sia, the letters are dancing now. Ah my head aches." Omega sighed.

"Come on, O. Don't exaggerate. Shit! " Loise saiid when his piled stones suddenly fall. Omega rolled her eyeballs and released another sigh.

"Tell us a story." She said, addressing Sia. Sia closed her book and stopped playing with her hair. She sits straight and breath deeply.

"Long, long ago..." she started and stopped.

"Guess. A history? Again? We all know that." Loise said.

"Maybe not this time." Sia smiled before continuing.

"After the war, the protector vanished. The Valiance chose their own king to stand as their protector. And the King appointed his own rulers— the Stalwart, the Acumen, the Healer and the Fortifier. The Stalwart is known for their strength, the one responsible for protecting the outer border of the Land. The Acumen for their intelligence and reasoning are responsible in planning and strategy. The Healer for their healing. And the Fortifier for strengthening one's will. While the King stays at the Central, with his appointed willer of fire, air, earth and water. They serve as the heart of the Land. They protect the people.

"After years, they found out that they could no longer pass their will. The only way left to pass one's will is through giving birth. Inheritance. Another problem arose— there is a larger possibility of having one will rather than two. What's worse is that... there is also a possibility of inheriting none. That's why today, there are people who don't have any will. Most people say it's a curse. Some say it's not, but the guardian's decision as payment for starting a war. But the problem didn't end there. The throne must be passed from the appointed king to his child. Generation to generation. Until... One king, made a queen. But the Queen died. And she bore no child."

"You mean, the current King, right? He's been living for two hundred years now and he still looks like on his 40's. Ah I wonder why. What's the secret for immortality." Omega said while yawning.

"That's where the real curse comes in. No one proves this yet, but everyone believes that the curse is that... the King should have a child. The king must pass the throne. Or else he would n't age." Sia answered.

"Man, that's fun. I wonder if I don't have a child. Will I stay young as well?" Loise asked.

"More likely. But being immortal is a curse. It'll hunt you every night, every day. Time will come, and you will long to die. To rest. To stop. To be old. To age. You will forever carry the weights of protecting the people. And when you fail, you will forever be sad. Guilty. Of being unable to protect your people." She said almost whispering.

"The king..." Leroy uttered. Everyone looked at him with a questioning face.

"There's another story." Sia said.

"Aaaah let's save that for next time. It's almost dinner! Let's part ways!" Omega shouted before standing.

Everyone enters a white circular light and vanished with their thoughts of the king. The portal closes.
