It was a dark cold night as the sound of heavy rain poured over a small village. Large droplets of rain hit the glass windows of cottages just before the sound of thunder struck across the sky. Lightning struck, lighting the dark cloudy night over the small village.
"Don't leave me alone…" a voice whispered.
A female voice echoed, "Please… Live on for me…"
A young child rose from under his quilted blanket just after the thunder struck over the village.
Rubbing his head, the child thought, "My fever went down…?"
The young boy frowned as he clenched the quilted blanket.
"That dragon boy from within the dream… He couldn't save the girl… She was dying… Again…" he thought to himself as tears flourished his eyes.
The boy's cries from the dream rang in his ears. He wiped the tears as the sound of thunder struck once again. Glancing at the end of his bed, he noticed a flickering light shimmer beneath his bedroom door.
"Why is someone awake this late?" he muttered while crawling out from under his quilted blanket.
Slowly creaking his bedroom door open, the young boy peered through, seeing a frail man sitting in front of a lit fireplace.
"Father?" he called out in concern. The frail man turned, seeing his only son stand behind his door.
"Son…" he spoke while watching him creek the door wide enough for his little body to go through.
The little boy asked, "What's father doing this late…?"
He couldn't see his father's face as his long hair and bangs covered it with a casted dark shadow. The frail man slowly reached out and grasped for his son's sleeve.
"Come…" his father's low voice echoed, "Why do you look sad… Your fever has finally gone down…"
The young boy sat in his father's lap as they turned to the lit fireplace.
"Father… I keep having those dreams… About how that boy in white couldn't save the girl…" he responded.
His father coughed before responding, "Is it the one with the woman and the man…?"
The little boy nodded at his father's response as he had tears in his eyes. He glanced at him and asked, "What if I don't get strong enough to protect you, mother, and onii-sama? What if I can't protect someone like that boy…?"
He listened to his father sigh before responding, "Everyone has the capability to grow a strong son… It just depends on how much effort they put in to make a difference…"
"What do you mean?" he asked with a frown, "I can't even do much as you even though you always look sick…"
His father stroked his brown hair as his long hair fell from behind his ears. "You are gifted with the bloodline of a dragon just like us… Every person with the dragon blood is given the power to protect people…" he spoke to his son, "You must protect the people you care for…"
The little boy gave a troublesome gaze and asked, "I can't be a leader like you father… Everyone looks up to you because you're strong and mighty in your dragon form even though you always look sick…"
He watched his father laugh before stating, "Deep inside, everyone is capable of becoming a leader, Mamoru… I may not have been blessed with a healthy body, however, I am blessed with knowledge and power of a dragon from your grandfather…"
Mamoru looked at him confused. He asked, "But why do many people see you as the leader of this village…?"
"A leader will always protect their comrades no matter how dangerous the situation is… No matter how hurt they are… And now matter how they look…" his father responded, "Unlike me, you and your sister were blessed to receive both a healthy body and the power of a dragon from your mother and I… I believe in the future, you will be able to lead and protect many people…"
"Do you think the boy was strong enough to protect that girl?" Mamoru asked his father.
His father narrowed his brows and answered, "I believe that boy went through hardships and wasn't able to save her in time… Dragons are strong and stubborn, it takes a lot to kill a dragon…"
He watched his father look down at him as a shadow casted over his eyes from his bangs.
"He must be telling you to protect the ones you love no matter what happens…" he said lowly.
His father's voice slowly zoned out as the cracking lit fireplace did the same. The sound of the rainy night slowly dispersed. Opening his eyes, he slowly rose from lying on his bed as a person laid in a bed beside his.
Glancing at the clock, the timer was five minutes away from the alarm. He glanced out at the window and spoke, "Another dream about it…?"
Minutes passed as the boy rose out from bed as it was an early, bright, Monday morning for the Titania city. Morning birds sang melodies awakening the civilians and the students that attend the fighting academy, the Titania Academy.
"Ryuu!!!! Hurry up or we'll be late!!!!!"
A tall teenager boy came running down the staircase as he tightened his tie. A cute young girl stood in her academy uniform as she pout as her purple and blue heterochromia eyes beamed at him. Ryuu looked at her as she sighed, he saw the others on his team waiting outside.
"Sorry Yumi, I slept through my alarm…" he said as the two rushed out.
Six students from the academy stood in front of them, three girls and three boys.
"We should get going." one of the boys said as he turned his gaze to the two.
Ryuu glanced at him who held orange eyes, he was Sadao, his black hair withered in the delinquent wind as he stood beside a girl who stared at them with her heterochromia blue and green eyes. One of the girls peeked behind a boy who held yellow eyes, her eye sockets held silver and mint green heterochromia eyes. She spoke, "Yumi, will you still be helping me train with Yuka?"
Yumi smiled as she glanced at the two girls who made eye contact.
"Of course Yui." she responded.
"Let's get going everyone…" a female voice spoke.
The six turned looking at the last female teammate who had brown eyes as she clapped her hands.
"Sakura, is everyone ready?" a male's voice asked behind her.
She glanced at the last person behind her, their leader, he kept his sharp expression as he glanced at them.
Sakura stated, "We are ready to head to the academy Mamoru,"
Mamoru, who is the leader of the team of eight, led them towards the huge academy as the city began to become lively.
Walking past many teams that fantasized about the his team, he thought, "Nine years have passed since I've last seen father and them… I wonder how it is in heaven…"
Leading them to the academy, Sakura asked Mamoru, "Do you think our new teammate will be as compatible as Mayumi?"
The six other teammates chattered with each other until they heard Sakura mention about their new recruit teammate.
Yui stated, "That's right, we are getting a new recruit to replace Mayumi today…" Akihiro, the man that Yui hid behind responded, "I wonder who it'll be…" "Mamoru!! Everyone!!!"
They looked ahead, it was a friend of theirs. "Tsuyoshi!!!" exclaimed Sakura in excitement. Mamoru and the others smiled as Sakura leapt onto Tsuyoshi as they embraced each other.
Tsuyoshi is an another S class leader besides Mamoru. The two are very close. Sakura continued, "You just came back from your mission? How were the dreadtooths?"
Tsuyoshi responded as he put Sakura down while the rest caught up to them, "Yeah, the dreadtooths were pain in the asses. I heard your team has a new recruit?"
Mamoru stepped forward as the two bro fisted with a smile. "Yeah, the headmaster mentioned it to us a few days ago…"
Yuka asked, "Did he give you any other additional information?" Sadao stepped forward, he responded, "The headmaster didn't give any further information to Mamoru and I…"
Tsuyoshi and Mamoru talked about this new mysterious recruit they are receiving as the others talked it out as well. Leading them to their lecture room, Tsuyoshi's team was waiting for them as four different teams entered the class. The class began shortly after they entered. Their homeroom professor walked in greeting the six teams.
"Good morning Professor Hamamoto…" the class greeted.
Prof. Hamamoto smiled as he stated, "Alright everyone, today will be an easy day like usual. After our small lecture, we will all head to the fitness gymnasium to improve all of your powers and abilities." He then continued, "We also have a new classmate that will be joining us, she will be the newly recruit of Mamoru's team."
"So our new recruit is a girl…" Ryuu mentioned as he smirked.
Yumi whispered, "I wonder how she'll be… Maybe like Mayumi?"
Yuka stated to both of them, "The only way to be put in our team is if you are an S class student…"
"Seems like she caught our attention…" Akihiro said as he glanced at Mamoru who narrowed his brows. A knock on the door echoed attracting everyone's attention. "Just in time, come in…" Prof.Hamamoto insisted.
The door slowly emerged open, every single person glanced at the door as a young girl around their age walked through. Her long black hair that faded to red withered behind her as she wore the academy uniform. Mamoru stared at her as she approached the professor's desk.
"Alright everyone, Mamoru," Prof. Hamamoto said clearly, "This is Yuuki Shinimi, the new recruit of Mamoru's team. Please give her respect and help her around if she asks."
"Her eyes!!!" Mamoru and his team all thought.
"They're like ours?!!" the girls shrieked in shock other than Sakura.
"They're like the girls?!!" the boys all thought.
Yuuki's eye sockets held glimmering red and golden yellow heterochromia eyes. Her glossy eyes left the team speechless as Mamoru stared at her. He felt the atmosphere change slowly as no one else noticed.
"She's super pretty…" the students muttered, "I wonder how strong she is…"
Yuuki was assigned a seat with her new team. Quiet, she listened to the lecture of the dreadtooths with the rest of the class. The lecture was over in a few hours.
"Everyone please head over to the gymnasium, I will meet you all there. I need to speak with Mamoru." their professor said.
Sakura and the others glanced at Mamoru before being dismissed. Mamoru and the professor watched everyone leave until the room was vacant.
"What is it that you wanted to talk to me about Professor?" Mamoru asked as he watched him sit on his desk.
"It's about Miss Shinimi…" he responded.
"Yuuki?" he muttered in confusion.
