Chapter Four: Close Call

The next day, as I was looking for banana milk at the grocery store, I received a text message from Mair.

Mair: Ella! Hurry! Get to my house! I just heard from Jackson that Charles is back!

What?!

Charles wasn’t supposed to be back until tomorrow, why was he back early?!

No time to waste, I need to pay for this shit and drive quickly to Mair’s.

If any fucking luck comes my way, it would be that the cashier is fast and there’s no traffic at the streets.

Well, I didn’t get the first one, but there were little cars on the road, since it was working hours.

As I reached Mair’s front door, she immediately pulled me inside...

Just as Charles’s car pulled up in her driveway.

“Holy shit, Ella, break up with Charles already. This secret lover thing is really tiring me,” Mair complained, setting the banana milk on the counter.

Just then, the door bell rang, and Mair answered. We weren’t surprised to see Charles but we were surprised since he was back earlier than expected.

“Hey babe!” I said nervously, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Charles smiled. “Hey, baby. Do you want to go to the Chanel store to buy some new perfume?”

I sneaked a peek at Mair’s face. It clearly said do not buy more shit especially if he’s paying.

I shook my head at Charles. “But why are you back early though? Me and Mair were having a good time\~”

Like I expected, he chuckled. “I got off work early since the negotiator recently resigned. Anyway, are you don’t want anything? They just released the Chanel 5.”

I smiled. “Nah, let’s go home.” I turned to Mair and winked. “Thanks for letting me stay here Mair.”

She nodded. “See you guys soon!”

As we reached home, I also got a text from Lucas.

Lucas: Ella, where are you?

Ella: I’m with Charles right now. He’s back early.

Lucas: Oh.

Ella: Don’t worry, I’ll see you soon enough. That’s a promise.”

I felt someone’s breath around my neck.

“Who’s that?” Charles asked.

I dropped the phone, which luckily didn’t crack.

“Charles, what the actual ****?” I groaned. “You’re lucky it didn’t break.”

Charles smirked. “I’ll just buy you a new one.”

By then I reached my breaking point. “Charles, listen. I really don’t want you buying any more shit for me, since I really don’t like expensive stuff and you know it.”

He seemed startled, then nodded. “Okay then.”

Weird, but alright.

“Aren’t you supposed to be eating right now?” Lucas said jokingly, kissing my forehead.

After our argument, Charles decided to go back to Sapphire City to give me space for a few days. Naturally, I headed to Lucas.

I pouted. “Don’t you want me around you?”

Suddenly my eyes turned serious. “Luc, I need to tell you something.”

He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. “What is it?”

“I’m pregnant, and you’re the father.”

Lucas looked shocked, then planted a kiss on my lips.

“I’m really happy, but I don’t think your fiance will be,” he remarked, emphasizing the word ‘fiance’.

I nodded. “What should I do?”

He paused, then whispered, “Run away with me.”

“W-What?”

“You heard me,” Lucas said. “Run away with me. He won’t go six thousand feet within your radius when you’re with me.”

“How can you be so sure?”

That’s whena smug smirk creased his face.

“Did he ever tell you about a company owner he leans on?”

I shook my head.

“Well, darling...” he said in a husky voice.

Lucas kissed me hard.

“I’m that company owner. And dare he displease me, I’ll make sure he’s poorer than the beggars I pass by everyday.”
