Chapter Five: Betrayal

“W-What do you mean?” I asked, a bit scared since Lucas was a very powerful man.

He adjusted his sweater collar. “I mean that with just a few calls, I can easily ruin his company if he hurts you.”

I bit my lip. What if Charles tried to hurt him, or me?

“I...” Right now, I was at a loss of words.

“What if Charles finds out I’m pregnant?” I asked timidly.

Lucas scratched his head. “How about you stay here, and I’ll think of something. I have a meeting at Sapphire City anyway.”

I nodded. “Okay, sure.”

What I didn’t know was what was about to happen during Lucas’s trip in Sapphire City.

*LUCAS POV*

I had just left Emerald City, and as I was about to enter the building where the meeting was about to take place, I saw him at the entrance.

Charles Welmington.

Seriously, what does Ella see in this fucking piece of shit? He looks like a trash can that was stomped over by horses and left to burn and rot.

And that’s a compliment.

“Ah! Mr. Davidson, nice to meet you once more. My name is Charles.” He said, extending his hand.

I didn’t take it. Who knows what this motherfucker has been touching?

“Where is the meeting room?” I asked coldly.

Charles smiled. “Please, follow me. The Board of Directors are already waiting.”

So?

*ELLA’S POV*

“Jackson, do you need help with Rianna today?” I asked meekly.

Jackson chuckled. “I’ll do just fine. If you manage to find out where Mair is, maybe I’ll let you babysit her.”

“Mair? Why? Where did she go?”

“She said she had a business trip, but I didn’t know companies scheduled trips for new employees.” Jackson said, patting Rianna’s back.

I shrugged. “Who knows. Mair’s a really capable woman anyway. I’m sure she can handle it, whatever it is.”

“June, where’s Lucas?” I said.

June inclined her head towards his bedroom. “He’s talking to a Miss Evans, Miss Miyuri. I suggest you—”

“Miss Evans, who?”

June shrugged.

This, I’ve got to see.

I briskly walked down the hallway, through the galleries and rooms.

I burst open the door, and my hand flew straight to my mouth.

“Ella, I can explain!”

But I couldn’t hear anything. I couldn’t even feel anything at all. My insides and outsides had gone completely numb.

Mair Evans, my best friend, was sitting at Lucas’s lap.

Mair looked pretty shocked, and she immediately hopped off of Lucas.

“El, it’s not what it looks like!” She exclaimed, her eyes filling with desperation and panic.

I stood there, my fingers trembling, my entire body shaking. I didn’t know what to do.

“W-Why...” I stammered, tears streaming down my face.

The two stayed silent.

“You have a fucking child, Mair!” I screamed.

Mair’s expression suddenly turned to anger. “Don’t say that as if you’re fucking innocent, Ella. You’re engaged to Charles,” she said.

“Well, at least I can easily annul our engagement, right? But you, you and Jackson are a family. Haven’t you thought of your fucking child, Mair?!” I yelled back.

Lucas was looking down.

“And you, Lucas. You got me pregnant, and this is what I get? You were with this shit of a best friend I have?” I scoffed. “I wouldn’t hesitate to abort this child!”

That pulled a string.

“Ella,” Lucas said, ice-cold. “You can break up with me, do whatever you want, but promise me you will not hurt that child.”

I trembled, still crying.

“Why did you d-do this?...” I whispered.
