The next day wasn't easy to get through. Taehyung apologized as soon as he saw him in the morning, but Jungkook didn't respond.
“I don't even know what to say, I… I'm honestly so ashamed of myself for doing that in the living room, I shouldn't be jamming my sexuality on your face… I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. He's not even my boyfriend, which is the worst. This is not who I am, I swear, I'm sorry…”
Jungkook stared at the glass of water he had served himself while Taehyung talked. And once he was done apologizing, Jungkook gazed at him for just a moment before looking down again, ashamed of himself for being relieved when Tae said it wasn't his boyfriend.
“You don't have anything to apologize about.” said Jungkook with a string of voice. He breathed in as if oxygen was bravery and looked at Taehyung in the eye. “You don't jam your sexuality in my face. And even if you did, you have every right to, it’s your life, your apartment and I'm really happy that you’re living freely. I...God, I hope you don't think I’m a homophobe. I have no problem with any of this.”
There were a couple seconds of silence before Taehyung spoke again.
“I'm confused, Jungkook.”
“About what?” Jungkook said as clearly as he could, not letting his voice tremble.
“About you. I never thought you could be a homophobe, you're a great person, you're so nice to me most of the time.” Taehyung paused. “But last night… You looked pretty mad. Have I done something wrong? Because maybe I could start working on it and-”
“You didn't do anything wrong.” Jungkook interrupted him, sounding a bit harsher than he'd intended. “Believe me. It's me. I've been feeling so weird these last days and I'm the one who should be sorry for my behavior.”
“Weird like what?”
Jungkook stayed silent and sat on a chair in the kitchen isle. Taehyung hesitated, but joined him in the end.
“Hey, you can tell me. We're friends after all, right?” reassured Taehyung.
“Yeah, we are… It's just confusing. So confusing.”
Taehyung kept quiet, waiting for his roommate to keep talking.
“Um… These last weeks I've been feeling different. I'm having doubts about who I am, and... I was hoping to get over it but this doesn't seem to be a temporary thing.” Jungkook admitted, trying to let his walls down.
“What exactly are you doubting? Maybe I could help you.” Taehyung offered, not blinking once before wanting to help.
“Uh… okay, I gotta come to terms with it, so, might as well say it out loud.” the brunette took a deep breath before talking again. “You know I like girls. But lately, I… I don't think I only like girls.”
“Oh wow… Didn't see that coming.” Taehyung nervously chuckled under his breath. “Well, it's alright, Kook. You don't have to figure everything out right now, you know?”
“Yeah, well… That's not really the thing worrying me.” he looked up at his roomate, staring into his eyes for a moment just to look down as the blood rushed to his cheeks. He wasn't sure he wanted to tell him. “Let's just say I know I'm not straight because I kind of fell for someone.”
“Oh…” Taehyung dropped his gaze onto the table and started to play with his fingers. “And this person… do I know him?”
“I'm not sure I want to answer that right now, Tae. I'm sorry...”
“Oh, no! Don't apologize, you don't have to tell me. I was just curious.” Taehyung's lips curved into a forced smile. “Anyways, I already went through the whole confusion thing, so if you ever need anything maybe I could help.” a minute passed, and none of the two could tell if the other one was gonna talk again. Finally it was Taehyung who broke the awkwardness. “Well, I think I gotta go. See you, Kook”
As the blonde walked towards the door, Jungkook couldn't keep it in.
“It's you.”
“...me what?” asked Taehyung.
“The person I told you made me question all this. It's you.” Jungkook could feel his heart rushing in his chest, as well as the unbearable heat spreading across his face and ears. “I like you, Tae. That's why I've been such a ****, I was… jealous.”
He heard Taehyung gasp for air.
“Jungkook…” he started, but couldn't think of words to finish. He just turned around and looked at the youngest with eyes that he could not read.
Jungkook couldn't stand the atmosphere of uncertainty that had set in the place. He stood from his chair and walked to the door of his room, but before he was even half way there, he felt Taehyung's hand grip his arm.
“Stop… Don't go.” said the blonde with a thread of voice. Jungkook slowly turned to face him, and was met with a flushed Taehyung looking down at the floor. “I think I also have something to say.”
For a couple seconds he looked like he was trying hard to think of words, but in the end gave up.
He looked at Jungkook, straightened himself and took a deep breath. “Let me just… try something…” he placed his hands on Jungkook's shoulders and narrowed the space between them until their lips touched.
Jungkook was shocked, very shocked. But very soon after, he kissed Taehyung back. His hands reached for the blonde's waist and gently pulled him closer as he let himself go.
When they pulled away and opened their eyes, Taehyung grinned softly. His arms now around Jungkook's neck.
“And I missed out on that for more than a year” Taehyung said. They both laughed.
“So you… Are we…? Should we try this?” doubted Jungkook, a shy smirk still on his face.
“Yeah… Let's try.” Taehyung couldn't stop himself from giggling.
Jungkook raised a hand and caressed Taehyung's cheek, just to bring him close a moment later for a kiss that felt much more passionate.
That kiss marked the beginning of an entire adventure. One that both men welcomed with unmasked joy.
They then ate dinner leftovers as breakfast, giving each other looks full of meaning and radiant smiles as they ate.
A beautiful warmth settling in their hearts.
