You sat on the rooftop of your house with your classmate who you have been crushing on for awhile.
Luck finally somewhat worked your way somehow and your homeroom teacher paired you both up for a group project. It wasn't much easy so they prefered to come over to your place. Little did they knew you were panicking at their statement.
As someone who lives with only their sibling and barely sees their parents, you weren't sure whether to accept their offer or not. But you decided to be bold and went ahead to invite them, and now here you are, sitting beside them on your rooftop, staring at the beautiful sunset infront of you. They stays silent as usual to their mysterious self, making you like them more and more.
Their eyes glued to the sky as you stared at the glowing face of theirs. They looked ethereal to you.
“This really doesn't feel real... ” you thought to yourself while dragging your eyes back towards the view infront of you from the one beside you. Right then you both heard some loud chirps and wing flapping sounds over your head so you looked up. It was a group of some colourful birds, their feather colour shining under the reflection of the setting sun's light.
"They are probably heading to their nests.." you mumbled without realising you spoke your thoughts out loud.
"Yeah they are." your crush spoke in a low tone, as if they were scared of speaking loudly and breaking something.
The whole moment felt unreal to you. From the corner of your eye you noticed them smiling at the sight infront, which lead to you showcasing a faint smile as well.
“This is probably the first time I'm seeing that genuine smile instead of the usual fake one.. such a pretty smile oh my God !!” Deciding to take a proper look, you turned around to face them. They, out of the blue, looked at you the same time. The accidental and unexpected startled you making you flich slightly.
Just to not make the situation awkward, you tried looking away from their eyes but failed at the mesmerizing sight of their smile.
“That is the first time you smiled at me so genuinely...” your thoughts proceeded on its own as you made your eyes look away forcefully.
To calm your racing heart you looked up at the sky again. the orange-pinkish glow of the sky was slowly fading along with the setting sky.
"The view seems extra pretty today, doesn't it?" you blurted out without realisation as the view kept you in it's hold.
They turned their head towards you, "It surely is.." a smile broke it's way to their face as they spoke. You hummed, thinking they were speaking about the sky, but little did you know,
It was about you the whole time.
