Temper
“Re…”
Huh?
“Ren..”
Who’s calling me?
“Renee!”
How long has my aunt been calling my name?
“Renee, it’s time to wake up. Today is your first day of school.”
I slowly opened my eyes and squinted at the bright light again. It burned my eyes. I sat up covered in sweat, I’ve had that same nightmare again. I can’t recall the dream when I wake up but I know it’s agonizing. It starts off with loud screeching noises and ends with a doctor calling out my name. Much like how my aunt did this morning but with a more urgent tone. I can never seem to remember what happens in between the screeching noises and the doctor. I know it’s something important so why do I always forget?
“Well are you going to lay there forever or are you going to get the hell up.”
Still staggering to get up I knocked my phone down off my desk. As I picked it up the time read 7:00 am. I jumped quickly and sprinted to find my uniform. “School starts at 7:35 am, I have to hurry.” I kept thinking to myself. If I knew it was going to be the start of my hell I would’ve just stayed asleep.
On the way to school my aunt kept nagging me about how I sleep all the time and how I need to find a job to support the household. I wanted to tell her to stop spending money on alcohol and maybe we’d have enough money for the rent and other bills but of course I couldn’t say that. I just stared out the window pretending not to care. Cursing the bell out of her in my head. Soon, the car slowly came to a stop at my new school. Westfields Norm.
“Try not to screw the **** up like you always do. And watch that damned temper of yours.”
I rolled my eyes and got out the car. I looked at my watch. 7:30 am. I barely made it. I walked to the classroom hoping to find a seat isolated from the rest of my peers. The classroom desks had three rows with 4 desks in each row. Each desk had two seats which means I would have to sit next to someone. God, I hope they just avoid the seat next to mine.
I found a seat in the back right corner of the classroom next to a window. I hurried to claim that seat before anyone else could and got settled. I put my headphones on to try and make my peers get the point to not sit next to me.
“Is she a new student?”
“Duh! She obviously wasn’t here last year!”
“Doesn’t she look kind of emo though?”
“OMG! She totally does! She looks like she smells too.”
******* bitches. It’s the first day of school.
I looked up to see who was talking about me and saw a boy sit to the seat beside mine. He had black hair as dark as the night sky with pale skin. He looks sick. Why did he have to sit next to me? I looked away from him as he got settled in his new desk.
“Michael what’re you doing sitting next to the new school freak?”
I lifted my head. The girl had rich blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. She had a perfect body figure. It was so perfect you could tell through the uniform. “Wow, she’s pretty.” I thought.
“Don’t address me like you know me.”
I looked at the boy she called Michael. His eyes were laid on his desk, his back stood straight up like a pencil, and his clothes were so neat not a wrinkle could be found.
“Michael, don’t be like that! Come sit next to me so you don’t start to feel sick next to her.”
I hope she’s not talking to me. I mean, I just got here , what could she have against me already?
“Do you have a problem with me?” I said.
“I mean who wouldn’t? The way you darken up the classroom really spoils the mood.”
“I don’t think I recall being on such familiar terms with yo-“
RRRIIINNNGGG
My classmates sat down. The girl in front of me had a kind of disgusted look on her face. I slightly gasped. My temper again. I rubbed my hand against my forehead. The teacher walked in and had us all introduce ourselves and soon, class began.
