Imagination

I slowly opened my eyes and was immediately hurt by the light.  There's someone sitting beside me. Is it Mom? So she still cares about me. After blaming me for my sister's death and my father's affair for how many years, and yet she still cared about me. I gently hold her hands and ask, "Mom, is it really you?"

Then I realized this hand is softer and healthier than my mom's hand.

"So it's just my imagination." I silently laugh sadly at myself, and without noticing, my tears drop slowly, one by one. My chest hurts. It's hard for me to breathe. My head gets heavier and heavier, and my world is spinning non-stop. What's happening to me?

"Y-your n-n-not my m mom...", I keep whispering these words over and over.

Then the woman sitting beside me woke up and looked at me. With worry and teary eyes, she quickly stood and ran out of my room without saying anything. After about five minutes, a doctor ran towards me, out of breath, quickly checked my condition, and injected me with something. Not long after that, I passed out.

I woke up in my room like nothing had happened. I slowly stand, going to my bathroom. My head still hurts. Is it really just a dream? After taking a quick shower...

Klang!!!!

There's someone in the kitchen. Is it Mom? I quickly ran down the kitchen and...

"Look what you made!" It's a mess! Why do you keep messing around? I'm sure if she's still alive, she's going to laugh at you and call you stupid…", the woman who stayed beside me when I was hospitalized said.  "You startled me by being creepy and always watching me in the back without saying anything. ", the boy argued.

Why are they here? " Aunt Su, Zach? W-what are you doing here?" I asked them, and they looked at me with a surprised look. Then she hit his head and...

"Look what you've done!  You wake little Liz from your mess!!.", she shouted to him before walking closer to me."

"Are you okay, dear? Are you hurt? How's your head?", she asked me.

"I'm okay, auntie." I smiled at her. " Don't call me Auntie. Just call me Mommy," she smiled at me. And my gaze turns to Zach.  Actually, he is my brother-in-law. He's my sister's husband.

"Umm..Aun-no Mommy?", I unsurely said.

"Oh yes, dear?", she asked with her expecting eyes, while Zach just continued to prepare breakfast.

"Where's mom?", I asked with a serious look. "Dear a-actually, she's... Ummm...", she's very unsure and nervous.

"She's--", " We sent her at the rehab," Zach said coldly.

"Zach, we already talked about this!", Aunt Su shouted.

"Mom, she has the right to know the truth. Are we just going to hide it from her? It's better to be hurt by the truth than comforted by lies," he explained.

He's right. It will bring more pain if they cover me with lies. Even if they do it to protect me, the outcome will be worse.

"But you're doing it the wrong way!" Aunt Su said.

"Aunt Su it's okay. Zach has a point. Thank you. I... I just want some air and time alone. Don't worry, I'll be back before lunch.", I bitterly said it without looking at them. I'm scared they'll see my eyes, and I'm currently trying hard not to release any of my tears. I don't want them to worry about me.
