Episode: Another World

“My lady... My lady, are you okay?”

“Agh… Damn! My head!”

“Look, she's waking up!” A young girl's voice shouted with joy.

“Forward it to His Majesty immediately! Tell them that Lady Valeria has come!”

Diana heard a man's voice with a deep and strong voice. She still had a headache. What was going on? There was a commotion around her that she could not understand. She tried to open her eyes, “Ov, ov, ov… Hell! My head! It hurts so much!” she said angrily. One of her hands went towards her head.

“My lady, how are you? Are you feeling well?” A young girl was standing curiously at the edge of the bed. The concern in her eyes could be seen from a hundred meters away.

“I-I'm fine, yes,” Diana said, barely opening her eyes. She was in a strange place. She closed her eyes and opened them again.

Where was this?

She didn't know the girl in front of her. And who was this strange man?

"Where am I? Who are you? Are you a doctor? My head is about to explode… Agh!”

The girl in front of her was looking at her in surprise. “My lady, are you okay? I’ me, Jane… Your housemaid my lady," the girl spoke with a trembling voice.

Diana sat up a little from the bed she was lying on and leaned her back against the headboard. She had regained her composure a little. She didn't quite understand why this girl kept calling her lady. When you see it, it looks like it is in the Renaissance period. Moreover, what was wrong with these strange clothes that this girl was wearing?

At that moment, two more men entered. Diana carefully looked at those who entered the room. Was she seeing correctly now? She looked around, unable to understand. How did she come to such a strange place?

This was not a hospital, she understood that.

She closed her eyes and opened them again. Who were these people? And why were they all dressed like old English aristocrats? Is there a theater or something and she doesn't know about it?

She suddenly grimaced and put one hand to her head. When she touched her head, she felt a swelling. She was wrapped in a big cloth. Did she hit her head somewhere?

“Valeria! My dear daughter, are you okay? You scared your father so much, my beautiful princess!”

Diana was looking at the man who approached her in surprise and took her hand in his. He was a vigorous, strong, imposing man who was no more than fifty years old. He was wearing a strange wig and the clothes worn by old English nobles. This situation reminded Diana of the pictures of Napoleon Bonaparte in old history books.

“Oh… Emmm, excuse me sir, but who are you?” Diana slowly pulled her delicate hand from the man's hand towards herself and said, "Do you know me Sir?"

“Oh!”

This voice came from another young girl waiting on the other side of the Diana. She was looking at the lady with concern and stepping forward she said; "My Lady... His Majesty is your father!"

“Sir... I think Lady Valeria is suffering from memory loss,” The man with the deep voice who had spoken before spoke again.

“Lady Va.. What?” said Diana in surprise. “I think you are confusing me with someone else? I'm not the person you think I am."

“Oh my poor girl! God Save us!" The old man spoke again: “I was really afraid that something would happen to you. My delicate Valeria! Please never scare your father again... William!” The imposing authoritarian man suddenly looked back at the man standing.

“Yes, your majesty!” said William.

“Call the doctor. Let there be an immediate solution to Lady Valeria's situation!”

“Of course your majesty!” The man nodded and left the room.

Diana still didn't understand anything. She got up suddenly from bed. She stumbled because she was dizzy.

“Oh, be careful, my lady!”

Diana stopped the servants coming towards her by showing her palms.

“Valeria, what's going on?” asked old man.

“I said who are you Sir! And why does everyone call me Valeria! Why are you dressed like this!”

Diana’s voice suddenly rose. She began to walk, staggering backwards. When she approached the window, she turned her head back and was left speechless with the view she encountered.

"Oh shit… Where am I..."

She was speechless. Because she was at the top of a huge tower. She shook her head, touching the stone walls. This couldn't be real! She was in a castle now. It was in the highest tower of a large castle. And the view in front of her… It was incredible!

“Valeria… My dear daughter, are you okay?” said the man behind her.

Diana looked back, stunned. With her last hope, she asked the imposing man who was looking at her with concern;

"Who are you Sir?"

“I am your father, my dear. Your father."

"Oh shit… I can not believe this…"

♣♣♣

Exactly 12 hours and 9 minutes had passed.

Diana was counting every hour, every minute she spent here. She still couldn't understand it.

How did she get here?

What was going on?

Did she jump back in time?

What was this?

Isn't such a thing impossible?

It is so crazy!

She was a duke's daughter! She was officially the daughter of a duke from the old Historical nobility!

She was ruffling her hair in the chair she was sitting on. On the other hand, she was trying to make sense of what was happening.

"Okay!!! Let's think about everything again," she said to herself. At that moment, the housemaid girl standing next to her just nodded. “You're Jane now, aren't you?” asked Diana.

"Yes my lady. I am Jane,” she nodded.

“And I am…”

“And you are Lady Valeria Herold, daughter of Thomas Arthur Herold, Duke of Wyndham.”

Diana laughed. This wasn't one of those laughs out of fun. It was a mocking laugh.

“Now,” she said, pointing at herself, “this is Valeria… that is, me! I fell down the stairs and had an accident, didn't I?"

Jane shook her head.

“And as you say, I did not come to my senses for exactly twenty hours. I'm unconscious, right?"

“Yes, my lady! We were all really scared! God has forgiven you to us!”

Diana let out a big sigh. The last thing that comes to her mind when she remembers herself: the moment she started reading the book she wrote herself and suddenly lights coming from nowhere and then finding herself here.

At first it felt like she was going crazy. Sh couldn't understand how such a thing was possible. But pretending to be crazy didn't help anyone. She had to live in this damned place as Valeria Herold until she found a way to return. That's why the best solution was to pretend to have lost her memory.

One thing Diana knew best was that great importance was given to the upbringing of young aristocratic daughters living in these periods.

As the daughter of a duke and the sister of a future duke, she had to behave like a daughter who was a symbol of honour, duty, chastity and a well-bred, perfect lady of high society.

It was always like this in the books she read. Even a small mistake could become a huge scandal for high society. So the only solution was memory loss. That way, she could return to her own time without getting into trouble.

So what would she do now?

How long would she stay here? In fact, this could even be fun in a way. On the other hand, Diana couldn't stop thinking about it. After all, she was the daughter of a duke. She must have been pretty rich. She could buy as many dresses of this period as she wanted. Although when she wore them, she felt like she was wearing a wedding dress. And she could barely breathe because of that damn thing called a corset that she had to wear in that dress!

“My lady... Are you okay?”

Diana blinked and looked at the girl who had been waiting next to her for almost an hour.

"I'm fine, Jane," she said, smiling a little. "Sit down. You've been up since the morning. You must be tired.”

Jane's eyes widened. She was looking at Diana in surprise. “My lady, servants cannot sit next to their master. It's against etiquette!” she said while her eyes were on the ground. At that moment, the Jane’s stomach was rumbling. She held her stomach in shame. Her face was red.

Diana smiled. There were lots of cookies, desserts and pudding on the table in front of her.

“Forget about your stupid etiquette, come on and sit down. Eat some cookies. You haven't even eaten anything decent because of me. Come on,” she said.

If there was one thing Diana knew very well, it was the class discrimination of this period. While people in high positions lived as they wanted, people in the lower classes were miserable.

“I said come on Jane,” she stood up, grabbed Jane's arm, who was looking at her in surprise, and made her sit down. “What do you want to eat? Look, that strawberry pudding doesn't stand out too bad. Try it and see if it's good."

“But my lady...”

Diana gave Jane the pudding bowl without accepting her objection. The girl's eyes were filled with tears. Finally, she couldn't resist and took a spoonful of that wonderful taste. She was smiling happily.

"Is it nice?" asked Diana.

Jane nodded and took a spoon again. “Thank you very much, my lady. I am grateful!"

“There is nothing to make a big deal about. You can eat whenever you want,” said Diana, sitting right across from Jane. “How old are you, Jane?”

"You really don't remember, my lady... Although you've changed, that explains it..." Jane said her last words in a mumble, but Diana heard what she said.

“Yes, Jane, I really don't remember anything...” said Diana in a soft voice. “Besides, can you tell me, this is Val... I mean, the old me... What kind of person was I before I lost my memory?”

Jane paused for a moment. It was obvious from her facial expression that she was undecided.

Diana smiled reassuringly at her. She had no intention of scaring Jane. And for some reason, a voice inside her was telling her that the woman she was trapped in this body used to be a scary woman.

“Please don't shy away from me, Jane. I'm not the old me anymore. Please say it clearly. Was I a bad person before?”

Diana felt this from Jane's gaze. That's why it might be useful to know Valeria Herold better, whose body she had to live in. She had to know what kind of person she was.

“Well… Actually, my lady,” said Jane, a little hesitantly, “You were a bit of a… tough person. I didn't mean a bad person! I'm sorry… I was rude, my lady! Forgive me! I don’t mean you are bad lady..!”

Jane wanted to talk for a moment, but when she remembered Lady Valeria's old self again, she got scared and started to apologize. Lady Valeria could be quite cruel when she was angry.

Diana understood the situation. The woman whose body she was trapped in was probably one of the upper class, arrogant people who thought they were very important people. That's why she didn't talk too much.

“Okay, I understand, Jane, calm down,” she said, smiling. “There is no need to apologize. I hope we can be good friends now.”

“But my lady! I am a maid! This is not possible!"

“Okay, okay Jane! Then we can be friends when we're alone, okay? Please do not hesitate and be afraid of me! You're looking at me like I'm a fucking cannibal eating human flesh!”

Jane was looking at Diana with her mouth open.

“What? Why are you looking me like that? Is something on my face?”

“Ma'am, what happened to you? You never spoke like people of the lower classes!”

Diana took a big breath in and out. This job was going to take longer than she thought. She was smiling and looking at the girl in front of her. It would take a really long time.
