Episode 5

Now that September is upon us, it seems that we can almost smell Fall in the air! It is a beautiful, bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it. Like every Wednesday Shawn came again this morning. He seemed to be very flustered and excited today.

He picked a hibiscus bouquet from the flower shelf and paid for it.

He stammered as he spoke, " ahh.. Its been very long since our last date. I've actually wanted to ask you out as since then. Are you free tomorrow? the xxx park will be holding a firework festival this Thursday, they will be also exhibiting foreign plants." He paused for a moment and resumed speaking, " I've bought a few tickets, felt like you would be interested.. Of course, this is a bit unexpected, if you got different plans, I can totally understand. "

"Oh, I would love too! Actually, I was just thinking about what to do during the weekend." I replied to him.

A smile appeared on his face. He left my bakery not very long after this. He told me he would pick me up at 7.

Does this count as our second date? I am so excited! Just the thought of being with him at the festival is enough to keep me up all night.

What should I wear tomorrow? Should I be wearing this purple one or the red one? No, should it be more simple? Urghh!! There isn't a suitable one! I should just go shop for it.

I arrived at the mall but don't know what to choose. The dresses here are all gorgeous but it's so hard to choose.

" Miss, I think the pink dress suits you better!"

said a girl as she stood by me.

" You are Shawn's colleague, you don't remember me the bakery girl? " I replied as soon as I recognised who she was.

"Oh sorry, I didn't recognise. Although I am saying this because I like the blue one but I really think that you would look good in this dress." She sighed and then continued, " who knew that I'll be going to a date tomorrow. Just feel like the blue one will match the firework festival."

I was surprised to hear what she said.

"You are going to the festival too? " I asked her.

" Yes! My colleague, Shawn invited me, saying he wanted to confess something," she replied.

[ The flower on the side of her head is the one I Shawn paid for today. I feel so empty.]

It is getting colder and darker; leaves are falling from the trees. There is a chill in the air overnight, frost on the ground, mist and fog in the air. Dry, dead leaves crunch beneath my feet and clouds appear when I breathe out.

I got a text from him.

Shawn: " Where are you? It's 7:30. "

Willow: " Sorry, I got a bit delayed. I will be there by 8."

He already invited someone else, why is he still asking me? Just because there are extra tickets? I don't know why but these are all I hear in my head.

I returned home. I got changed to the pink dress I bought earlier today. I put my diamond earrings and light makeup. I quickly ran downstairs and got my bag. I didn't waste much of the time and left for the festival.

Alone, hopeless and insecure. Like walking on an unknown road, with a blindfold alone.
