Augusto
My name is Augusto Ferete. I'm 36 years old and I love life. My passion is my horses. I own a company in the beef cattle business — we export worldwide. I inherited it from my late father and I've kept building on what he started.
I enjoy life and I've never truly fallen in love, because as far as I'm concerned, every woman is easy and they all just want my money. My deal is one night, nothing more. If a woman starts getting sentimental about love, there won't even be a casual hookup. My father suffered too much after my mother abandoned us to live her own life. She drained him so dry he nearly went bankrupt.
I studied agronomy in college but didn't stick with it. Now I hold a degree in veterinary science, and I like to go out and personally inspect the farms where I buy the cattle for our slaughter operations.
I'm very demanding about that.
Right now I was heading to Fazenda Luar, the Moonlight Ranch, to get a look at the operation.
After a lot of pressure from my friend Juliano, I agreed to go see if we could close a partnership. It was already pretty much settled that we would.
I arrived in the small town about three hours from my own fazenda and couldn't find a single hotel or guesthouse to spend the night.
I decided to press on and get there early in the morning.
Damn. Guess I'll just have to show up at the fazenda and explain my situation. Maybe they'll let me sleep there.
I pulled up to the gate and introduced myself to the groundskeeper, who looked pretty nervous.
"Good evening, sir. My name is Augusto Ferete — I'm the cattle buyer. Are the owners home?"
"Good evening, Mr. Ferete. My name is Sérgio. We were expecting you. I just didn't think you'd come today."
"I came today. But I couldn't find anywhere to stay in town. I was hoping to speak to your employer about whether we could spend the night here."
We went in — me and my security men — and reached the main house.
I noticed the front door was open and heard raised voices coming from inside.
I looked at my security guys and they shrugged.
I decided to go in.
Good Lord almighty, what kind of woman is this. My eyes went dark the second I saw that punk about to hit that tiny little thing in front of me.
I stopped in the doorway.
"IS THERE A PROBLEM HERE, MA'AM?"
She looked at me and I could see she'd been crying.
That's when I really got angry. I only calmed down when I heard her voice.
"No problem at all. This young man was just leaving. Isn't that right, Eliezer?"
So that's the name of the scoundrel.
She practically told him to get out and he didn't move.
"Well then — good night." I stepped inside and pointed toward the door for him to leave.
The bastard looked back at her one more time and threatened her before walking out.
"This isn't over, Melissa. You think you're getting rid of me that easily. I'm going to town — we'll talk tomorrow when there's nobody around."
I knew that last part was aimed at me. I gave him a cold smile as he passed by on his way out.
She turned to me and said, "Of course, sir. Come on in — I just need to close up out here and I'll meet you inside. Go ahead."
