4: “We Match!”

October had arrived. The leaves began to fall from trees all around. They made crunching noises whenever stepped on. A noise that Akaashi liked.

Akaashi thought that, no, he knew that throwing away the notes would only lead to getting more. So, why did he keep throwing them away? Was there something going off inside of his head, telling him that it was a good idea? He was not interested in finding out who was giving him the notes nor was he interested in what the notes said. Actually, he’d throw them away without reading a word.

Why Akaashi? What was so special about him that made someone interested? There was nothing, nothing special about him. He was friendless and quiet. Worthless, no doubt in that. He went years without getting notice by anyone. The minute he was noticed, it was like his world was changed by a single person.

Akaashi arrived at the academy. He switched out his shoes and took off his coat. The coat was nothing special. It was grey with black touches and went down to his knees. He got it because he liked the colors. He felt as if they called out to him in the store.

As he was placing his coat on the coat rack, he could hear a loud gasp. To be frank, anyone could have heard it. Akaashi did not budge though. That was until he felt a tap on his shoulder. He slowly turned his head to see Yellow-Eyes. The boy did not say a word but was pointing back and forth from his hair to Akaashi’s coat. His mouth was agape but no audible noises escaped.

Akaashi slowly backed up, thinking the boy was crazy.

What is wrong with him? He’s not normal at all!

His eyes looked weirded out and Yellow-Eyes was still standing there. “We match!” The guy finally spoke out, smiling as hard as he could.

Akaashi pinched the bridge of his nose. This was the strangest experience of his life. Without a word to the stranger, he walked away. He headed straight to class and sat down.

What did he mean by ‘we match’? Does he have the same coat? Why did he keep pointing to his hair? Akaashi thought in his head.

Was this going to be an ongoing thing?

School ended like normal. Akaashi changed his shoes and… His coat was missing! He blinked a few times, in disbelief. Why would anyone want to steal his coat?

He looked around the area for his coat. Maybe he brought it to class without remembering?

As he walked to his home room, he saw the strange guy, talking to some girls. Something looked familiar. Something the guy was wearing around his waist. Akaashi squinted his eyes a little and sure enough, it was his coat.

Without a second thought, he walked over and yanked it off. The girls gasped loudly. “You can’t do that! Don’t you know who he is!?” Akaashi looked over at them and shrugged, not really caring.

“Don’t touch people’s stuff,” Akaashi snapped at the guy, pretty harshly.

The man frowned and lowered his head. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to get your attention,” he whimpered like a puppy.

The girls awed at the puppy, adoring him. Akaashi, on the other hand, was not caring for it at all. “So you steal my jacket? What is wrong with you? Are you an airhead?” He growled out as he put his jacket on.

There was no response for a few seconds. Akaashi looked up to see Yellow-Eyes in tears. His eyes slightly widened. He had never made anyone cry before.

“Uh-uh- Don’t cry. You want the coat?” He said, reluctantly as he took his coat back off. He offered it to the crying boy. The guy immediately took it and looked as if he inhaled the smell.

“It smells like you-“ he said softly. Even the girls were a bit weirded out and decided to vacate the premises.

Akaashi nodded. “It is my coat, after all? Just give it back when you're done doing whatever you’re doing? I have to get to the station before I miss the train-“

He heard a loud gasp. “Let me walk you there! I live right by it!” He said with a bright smile, handing the coat back, “It’s cold. I don’t want you sick, erm- erm,“

Akaashi raised his brow before realizing he was asking for his name. “Oh, my name is Akaashi Keiji.”

“Akashi?” The guy tried to repeat back but messed up, “I am Bokuto!” He said with great pride.

Akaashi couldn’t help but snicker at Bokuto’s mistake. “No, no. It’s Akaashi,” he said it slower so he would better understand.

“That’s what I said! Akashi!” Bokuto crossed his arms. "C’mon, Akashi! Let’s go before we miss your train!”

Next thing Akaashi knew, he was being pulled by a guy twice his size.
