He woke with a jolt, sweat clinging to his skin, heart racing. His eyes snapped open, trying to shake off the remnants of the nightmare.

But then, his breath caught.

There, in his arms, was someone.

Peacefully asleep, nestled against him as if it was the most natural thing in the world. His arms instinctively held them tighter, as if afraid they might disappear.

For a long moment, he just stared.

His heart swelled, a smile spreading across his face, wild and unrestrained.

This, he realized, was his lifeline.

The one thing he hadn't even known he was searching for right here in his arms.

A slow smile spread across his face, wild and uncontainable. It was the kind of smile that was both a relief and a revelation.

The kind of smile that told him, without words, that this was where he was supposed to be.

That this was the person who completed him.

His lifeline. Right there, in his arms.

He let out a breath, one he didn't realize he was holding, and tightened his hold just a little.

Everything had been chaotic, confusing, full of questions.

But this moment? This was simple.

Pure.
