Chapter 1 - What is Death?

Hyung........

"What is death? After death, will everything be finished?"

Someone's pov:

"Death is... the final page in a book you can't write anymore. It's the ending no one ever wants, but somehow it comes, like a shadow in the corner of your mind. It's— quiet, but it echoes through everything that's left behind.

A story unfinished, a life unlived. But maybe— maybe it's not just an end. Maybe it's just another way of opening the door to a new chapter, where the story continues in ways we can't yet imagine."

Someone's pov:

He woke with a jolt, sweat clinging to his skin, heart racing. His eyes snapped open, trying to shake off the remnants of the nightmare.

But then, his breath caught.

There, in his arms, was someone.

Peacefully asleep, nestled against him as if it was the most natural thing in the world. His arms instinctively held them tighter, as if afraid they might disappear.

For a long moment, he just stared.

His heart swelled, a smile spreading across his face, wild and unrestrained.

This, he realized, was his lifeline.

The one thing he hadn't even known he was searching for right here in his arms.

A slow smile spread across his face, wild and uncontainable. It was the kind of smile that was both a relief and a revelation.

The kind of smile that told him, without words, that this was where he was supposed to be.

That this was the person who completed him.

His lifeline. Right there, in his arms.

He let out a breath, one he didn't realize he was holding, and tightened his hold just a little.

Everything had been chaotic, confusing, full of questions.

But this moment? This was simple.

Pure.

Real.

And it was all he needed.

The soft tick of the clock on the wall brought him back to reality.

He blinked a few times, his gaze falling on the time.

Today.

His heart skipped a beat as the realization washed over him.

Today was the day.

The day he had been waiting for, planning for, for so long.

It was the anniversary, the anniversary of his love with Taemin.

The very day their paths had crossed, and everything in his life had changed.

He looked down at Taemin, who was still peacefully asleep in his arms, completely unaware of the significance of the day.

A small smile spread across his lips as he gently shifted, careful not to wake him.

He didn't want to interrupt the peaceful slumber that Taemin had so clearly earned.

Slowly, he slipped out of bed, his bare feet meeting the cool floor as he quietly made his way toward the kitchen.

There, on the counter, was the cake he had prepared earlier—simple, but meaningful.

He had thought long and hard about what would be the perfect way to celebrate this day.

The cake was small, just enough for the two of them, but it wasn't the cake that mattered.

It was— moment.

He lit the single candle in the center of the cake, the soft glow of the flame flickering in the dimness of the kitchen.

His heart pounded as he carefully carried it back to the bedroom, his footsteps light, careful not to disturb the stillness of the room.

He placed the cake on the bedside table, right beside the corner of the bed where Taemin's face would be.

It wasn't the grand gestures or the expensive gifts that made this moment special—it was the simple act of being together, of sharing this time, this love.

He sat down beside the bed, his heart full of quiet emotion.

His eyes softened as he looked at Taemin's face, the serene expression on his features, so peaceful and unguarded.

He gently leaned over, his lips brushing against Taemin's cheek in a tender kiss, then moving to his nose, his eyelids, and finally his forehead.

Each kiss was a soft whisper of love, a promise without words.

Taemin's soft breath stirred in the quiet room, and then, just as he had hoped, Taemin slowly shifted in his sleep.

His arms wrapped around the boy without hesitation, pulling him back into the warmth of his embrace as if nothing in the world could tear them apart.

Still half-asleep, Taemin held him close, his movements natural, protective.

He pulled the boy up with ease, effortlessly lifting him in his arms, as if this was where he was meant to be all along.

Taemin's sleepy smile tugged at his lips as he held him, cradling him like the most precious thing in the world.

The boy watched Taemin as he slept, his heart swelling with affection.

He didn't want to disturb the peaceful moment, but he knew they couldn't stay like this forever.

Softly, he kissed Taemin's hair and whispered, "Baby, wake up...You're going to be late for work."

At the sound of his voice, Taemin stirred, his face scrunching up in protest.

He buried his face further into the boy's shoulder, as if trying to hide from the world for just a little longer.

His arms slowly loosened their grip, though his hold on the boy's warmth didn't fully release.

The boy smiled softly, the sight of Taemin's sleepy resistance only making his love for him grow stronger.

He gently straightened himself, sitting up on the bed, careful not to wake him too abruptly.

His hand reached over to the side table where the small cake rested, the single candle now flickering faintly.

Before Taemin was fully awake, the boy moved back to the bed, sitting beside him.

He placed the cake between them, the glow of the candle casting a soft, warm light over the room.

He leaned down, his voice tender and filled with emotion as he whispered, "Happy anniversary, baby."

Taemin's eyes fluttered open slowly, the drowsy haze still clouding his vision.

He blinked a few times, his gaze falling to the cake, then back to the boy beside him.

A sleepy smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his hands reaching out to pull the boy closer.

The boy couldn't help but laugh softly, his heart full of love. "I know you're tired, but I couldn't let this day go by without reminding you how much you mean to me," he said, his fingers gently brushing Taemin's cheek.

Taemin's eyes sparkled with affection as he finally woke up fully, pulling the boy into a tight hug. "You're crazy," he murmured, his voice warm with love, "but I love you jiminie."

"I know," the boy chuckled, holding Taemin tighter. "And I love you, more than anything."

And just like that, with the cake between them and the world outside their door, the boy realized there was nowhere else he would rather be.

This moment, this simple anniversary, was everything.

Jimin's POV:

It's done.

My surprise is ready.

I can't help but feel a rush of excitement—this is it.

The moment I've been waiting for.

Today's the day.

I'm going to propose to Taemin.

The thought of it fills me with so much joy I can barely contain myself.

I've planned everything carefully, down to the smallest detail. The perfect moment. And after everything—after work, after the madness of the day—it's finally going to happen.

I can already picture his face when he sees what I've prepared for tonight.

I can't wait.

I'm sure he'll be as happy as I am.

Hopefully, he'll be just as excited.

I shake my head, feeling like I'm floating on a cloud.

But the excitement doesn't stop there—there's more to come.

I have to get to work, and Taemin's already left, so it's just me here for now.

The thought of him waiting for me at the end of the day makes everything feel worth it.

But before I leave, I need to make sure Taemin knows what's going on.

I grab my phone from my pocket, tapping on the screen with a little bit of anticipation.

There's no way I'm going to be able to keep this secret for much longer, but for now, I just need him to understand that tonight's not going to be like any other evening.

I type quickly, my fingers moving almost instinctively as I try to keep my excitement from spilling out too much in the text.

"Baby, today I have so much work. Maybe I won't be able to come home tonight. Don't eat outside, okay? Cook at home. I'll meet you in the morning, and don't go anywhere at night. Love you, and happy anniversary, baby."

I pause for a moment, staring at the text.

It's simple, but it says everything I need it to.

I can already imagine his face when he reads it.

The thought of him sitting there, waiting, makes my heart race even faster.

I know he won't be expecting anything out of the ordinary tonight, but this will be the night that changes everything.

With a satisfied smile, I hit send and slipped the phone back into my pocket.

There's no turning back now.

Work's waiting for me, and so is tonight—the night I'll ask Taemin to be mine forever.

And as I leave the apartment, the excitement bubbling inside me, I can't help but think: Today's the day.

I couldn't contain the excitement, My heart was racing as I left work, the thought of what awaited me at home making my steps quicker.

Today was the day, The day I had planned everything for.

I could almost picture Taemin's face when he would see me kneel before him, holding that ring.

I'd finally take the leap,no more just boyfriends, no more pretending, I was about to ask him to be my husband.

This was the moment I had waited for, the moment I could build the family I had always dreamed of but never had. A family with Taemin.

My heart swelled with joy at the thought.

I could already see us, growing old together, creating something beautiful, something lasting. I had never felt this happy in my entire life.

I couldn't wait to see his expression when I walked in.

As I approached the apartment, I smiled to myself.

He probably didn't know I was coming early, but that would only make the surprise sweeter.

I pulled out the spare key from my pocket, the metal cold against my fingertips.

I unlocked the door, about to call out to him, but then—

"Bab—"

The words died in my throat as I froze in place.

What the hell is going on here?

I could hardly believe my eyes.

There, on the sofa, was Taemin.

But he wasn't alone.

He was with one of his friend— kissing him

Their bodies tangled together.

I stood in the doorway, unable to move, unable to process what I was seeing.

They didn't even hear me enter, didn't even notice that I was standing there, watching them.

The world felt like it had come crashing down all at once.

Cheating.

Taemin—my Taemin—was with someone else, and not just anyone, but one of his friends.

It was all happening right in front of me, and I couldn't wrap my mind around it.

My hands shook, my chest tightened. The rush of confusion, anger, and heartbreak flooded me all at once, like a wave crashing over my entire being.

I couldn't breathe.

I wanted to scream.

To shout at them, to make them aware of my presence.

But I couldn't move.

My mind was racing, my body frozen in place, the only thing that came to my head was—cheating.

How could Taemin do this to me?

How could he betray me like this, after everything we had shared, everything I thought we had built together?

The past year, the love we'd shared, the future I had imagined—it all started to crumble, bit by bit. My hands trembled as the memories of the moments we had spent together slowly started to fade.

Each laugh, each touch, each promise—everything was slipping through my fingers.

I didn't even think anymore.

I couldn't think.

I just turned and left, closing the door behind me without a sound.

The rain had started to fall, but I didn't care.

I didn't feel it.

The world around me felt so far away, like it wasn't real.

The only thing that mattered was the pain, the emptiness, the unbearable weight pressing against my chest.

I kept walking, walking aimlessly, not knowing where I was going.

The streets blurred around me, the sound of the rain hitting the pavement a constant, rhythmic beat against the silence in my head.

My body felt numb, like I was walking through someone else's life.

I didn't care about anything anymore.

Not the rain soaking me to the bone.

Not the cold.

Not even the pain.

It was all just— background noise.

Suddenly, I realized I was standing too close to the river.

The water rushed beneath me, dark and cold.

But I didn't care.

I didn't care about anything.

My foot slipped on the wet ground.

I fell.

The cold water engulfed me, and I gasped, the shock of it making my heart race.

I struggled, my hands reaching for something—anything—to pull myself up, but the current was too strong.

I didn't know how to swim.

I could barely breathe.

My thoughts flashed before my eyes.

My life.

The love I had given to Taemin.

How did everything go so wrong?

I kicked, I fought, but it was no use.

The river was too deep, too cold, and the strength was leaving my body with each passing second.

I could feel myself slipping under the water, my body growing weaker.

My vision blurred, and the last thing I saw was the dark water swallowing me whole.

Then, everything went black.

I don't know how long it's been.

At first, everything felt distant—fuzzy, like I was floating in between sleep and waking.

The noises around me were jumbled, chaotic, too loud.

People were shouting, running back and forth, but I couldn't understand any of it.

I couldn't focus enough to make sense of what was happening.

My body felt heavy, my chest tight as if I couldn't breathe properly.

Slowly, my eyes fluttered open, and I blinked, trying to clear my vision.

My head throbbed, and there was this overwhelming sense of cold, like I was still submerged in water.

My heart raced in my chest, panic settling in.

Where am I?

And then, I heard it.

Taemin's voice.

I turned my head, and there he was. He was standing a few feet away, but it didn't take much to see that something was wrong.

His face was pale, his eyes swollen from crying.

He was staring at something, his hand reaching out like he wanted to touch it, but he was trembling too much to move forward.

He was crying.

Why is he crying?

I didn't want to go to him. Not after what I saw last night—what I witnessed.

The betrayal.

The way he'd— betrayed me.

But still, my body moved on its own, as if some invisible force was pulling me closer to him.

My steps were slow, hesitant, as I tried to make sense of everything.

The scene around me was chaos, but none of it made sense.

None of it could.

When I looked in the direction where Taemin was staring, I froze.

There, lying on the ground, was— me.

This is me.

This is really me.

I want to scream.

I want to shout out, to run to my body and beg for it to wake up.

But I can't.

My body—my own body—isn't moving.

It's not breathing.

I'm not breathing.

The world around me spins, my head swimming with confusion, anger, and fear.

Am I dead?

Is this really the end?
