The Healer's Scoop

The Healer's Scoop

Aurora Creamery

The city of Eryndor was a place where impossible things had become ordinary.

People no longer feared diseases that once destroyed entire civilizations. Broken bones healed within hours. Failing organs were replaced with artificial ones. Genetic errors were corrected before a child was even born.

Medicine had become so advanced that many believed humans had finally defeated their greatest enemy.

Death itself.

The streets of Eryndor shined beneath endless lights. Towering buildings of glass and metal touched the clouds, their surfaces covered with holographic advertisements promising perfect health.

LIVE LONGER.

LIVE BETTER.

LIVE WITHOUT LIMITS.

Hover vehicles moved silently through the sky. Medical drones carried precious capsules between hospitals. People walked through scanners that analyzed their bodies in seconds.

It was a world of miracles.

But not every miracle belonged to science.

In the forgotten corner of the lower district, far away from the glowing towers, stood a small shop that looked like it belonged to another era.

A faded wooden sign hung above the entrance.

AURORA CREAMERY

The letters were old, the paint slightly chipped, and the windows were covered with a thin layer of frost.

Most people walked past it.

Why would anyone visit an ice cream shop in a world where food was designed in laboratories and delivered through machines?

But those who entered discovered something different.

The air inside was cold and quiet. The scent of sugar, vanilla, and something mysterious filled the room. Strange jars lined the shelves behind the counter, each one containing ingredients that looked more like treasures than food.

Moonflower nectar.

Crystalized herbs.

Rare fruits grown in places untouched by technology.

And in the middle of it all stood Arin Kael.

A twenty-seven-year-old ice cream maker with tired eyes, messy dark hair, and a dream that everyone called impossible.

He carefully stirred a glowing mixture inside a silver bowl, his entire focus locked onto it.

“Temperature stable,” he whispered.

The machine beside him beeped.

“Flavor balance… ninety-eight percent.”

Arin smiled slightly.

Almost.

He picked up a spoon and tasted the mixture.

For a moment, he closed his eyes.

The flavor was perfect.

Smooth. Sweet. Refreshing.

The kind of taste that could make someone smile.

But Arin wasn’t looking for something that could make people happy.

He was looking for something that could save them.

His eyes opened.

The faint glow disappeared.

His smile faded.

“No.”

He placed the spoon down.

“Still not enough.”

The empty shop echoed with his words.

Arin looked at the bowl in disappointment.

Another failure.

Another experiment.

Another night spent chasing a dream that everyone told him to abandon.

He walked toward the wall behind the counter.

A small photograph was hanging there.

A woman with warm eyes and a beautiful smile looked back at him.

His mother.

Elara Kael.

Arin reached out and touched the picture.

“I’m close, Mom,” he whispered.

The memory came back like it always did.

The hospital room.

The machines.

The doctors who refused to meet his eyes.

“We’re sorry, Arin. We tried everything.”

Everything.

That word had haunted him for years.

Because everyone claimed medicine could cure anything.

But when his mother needed it most…

It failed.

That was the day Arin stopped believing that science was the only answer.

He made a promise.

If the world couldn’t create a cure…

He would.

And he would find it in the most unlikely place.

A scoop of ice cream.

The bell above the shop door suddenly rang.

Arin turned.

A customer?

That was unusual.

Especially this late.

A small boy stood at the entrance.

He looked around twelve years old. His clothes were worn, his face was pale, and he held a few coins tightly in his hand.

Arin immediately noticed something was wrong.

The boy was struggling to breathe.

“Hey,” Arin said softly. “Are you okay?”

The boy looked at him.

There was fear in his eyes.

But also hope.

“Are you Arin Kael?”

Arin hesitated.

“Yes.”

The boy stepped inside.

“They said you can make special ice cream.”

Arin’s expression changed.

Rumors.

They had started.

“What did they say exactly?”

The boy lowered his gaze.

“That your ice cream can heal people.”

Silence filled the room.

The machines hummed softly.

Arin looked away.

“I think you heard the wrong story.”

The boy shook his head.

“No.”

His voice cracked.

“My sister is sick.”

Arin froze.

“She hasn’t gotten better. The doctors said there’s nothing more they can do.”

The boy swallowed.

“But someone told me…”

He looked at the shelves of strange ingredients behind Arin.

“Someone told me that maybe you could help.”

Arin said nothing.

Because he wanted to say no.

He wanted to tell the boy that miracles weren’t real.

That he was just a man making desserts.

But then he remembered his mother.

Her tired smile.

Her last words.

“Don’t stop trying to help people, Arin.”

Slowly, he walked toward the freezer.

The boy watched him carefully.

Arin opened a hidden compartment.

Inside was a single glass jar.

The rarest ingredient he owned.

The one he promised himself he would never use until he perfected his recipe.

A faint golden light escaped.

The room became warmer.

Arin stared at it.

This could be the beginning of everything.

Or the end of everything.

He took a deep breath.

“Bring your sister here tomorrow.”

The boy’s eyes widened.

“You’ll help?”

Arin looked at the glowing jar.

“I’ll try.”

Because sometimes…

A dream only becomes real when someone is brave enough to risk everything.
