CHAPTER 5: The Grabber

...----------------...

The dimly lit basement was a chamber of horrors. Laura's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with the sight of Charles, unconscious and slumped in a chair. Her own eyes began to bleed, and a wave of pain washed over her.

"Charles," she whispered, trying to reach out to him, but unseen hands restrained her.

"Please don't hurt us, let us go," she begged, her voice shaking with fear.

The man, hidden behind a mask, turned to face her. "I thought you had potential, Laura, but maybe I was wrong."

As he approached her, Laura's pleas grew more desperate. "Please let me go."

The man's voice was cold and calculating. "It's time for you to join me."

With a swift, merciless motion, he snapped her neck, and Laura's lifeless body slumped forward.

The scene cut to the Hugos, where IZ, Owen, Apollo, and Sarah were gathered with John. Apollo's face lit up with excitement. "It was epic! IZ just broke his arm like Mr. Fantastic."

He snapped his fingers, and Owen turned to IZ with a smile. "But how did you get the power?" he asked.

IZ's brow furrowed. "I don't know. In my dream, some people injected me, maybe that's it. But I saw Charles and Pa."

Sarah's eyes widened. "Really? Charles with Mr. Kendrick?"

IZ nodded. "No, first I saw Charles, then Pa."

Owen's expression turned serious. "Where did you see him? Is he in trouble?"

IZ's eyes were distant, her voice barely above a whisper. "He was singing in a chair, tied up."

Sarah's brow furrowed in concern. "Tied up?"

IZ nodded, her expression grim. "Yes, like the man is trying to get into his head."

Apollo's eyes widened in realization. "Oh my God, if IZ is Mr. Fantastic, then that man can only be one thing."

John's curiosity was piqued. "What?"

Owen's face was pale, his voice shocked. "The Grabber?"

A flashback revealed the boy returning home to a tearful mother, who quickly enveloped him in a warm hug. "Where have you been? I was so worried," she exclaimed, her voice trembling with relief.

The boy gently wiped away her tears, his expression somber. "Don't cry, Mum. Our suffering is almost at an end."

The scene shifted back to the present, where David stumbled into the group, his mouth bloody and bruised. Sarah rushed to his side, concern etched on her face. The others followed, their voices filled with worry.

"What happened?" John asked, his eyes scanning David's injuries.

Sarah's voice was laced with concern. "Are you in a fight?"

David's smile was weak. "It's nothing. IZ is back."

IZ smiled, and David's eyes lit up as he hugged her. Apollo chimed in, his voice excited. "Yes, and she has superpowers."

David chuckled, wincing in pain. "Umm, what?"

Frank's Guest Basement

The dimly lit basement was filled with the sound of laughter and shuffling cards. Frank, Maria, Rebecca, and Jordan were engaged in a heated game, but Maria's mind was elsewhere. Her brow was furrowed with worry.

"Hey, baby, don't worry too much," Frank said, his voice soothing. "Laura is not like Charles. She's a woman."

Jordan's comment was met with a snicker from Rebecca. "A woman we'd desire," he said, his eyes gleaming with amusement.

Maria's eyes flashed with anger. "Hey, Jordan, this is not a joke," she snapped.

Rebecca's voice was laced with venom. "Watch it, Princess Slut. Stop trying to get on my nerves. Your big sissy friend is your problem, not ours. Alright?"

The tension between the two girls was palpable. Maria's anger boiled over, and she slapped Rebecca. The two girls erupted into a fit of hair-pulling and scratching. Frank quickly intervened, dragging Maria out of the room.

As they disappeared from view, the sound of their argument faded into the distance. Frank returned, his expression annoyed.

Meanwhile, at the Hugos, a somber mood had settled over the group. David's voice was filled with concern. "So, who's the Grabber?"

Apollo's expression was grave. "In Trog, the Grabber is an undead creature from the Dark World. When he kidnaps his victim, he forces him to think like he does. If he fails to think like him, then he will kill the victim."

Sarah's eyes welled up with tears as she listened to Apollo's explanation. "So, that psychopath will kill my boy," she sobbed, her body shaking with fear.

David quickly wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "Don't worry, Mom. We'll find him," he whispered, trying to comfort her.

IZ's voice was determined. "I won't let him hurt Charles. I'll find him."

John's eyes locked onto IZ's, his voice filled with urgency. "In your vision, didn't you see anything about the location of the place?"

IZ closed her eyes, her brow furrowed in concentration. Suddenly, her eyes snapped open to reveal a glimmer of memory. "Yes, the building is old and burnt," she said, her voice firm.

John quickly grabbed his talkie and barked out orders. "Fred, this is Chief. I need you to find me any old burnt house or building in Hamlet, now!"

Fred's voice crackled over the radio. "Yes, Chief."

Meanwhile, in the basement, Frank's anger was simmering. "What's wrong with you guys? Did you think this is funny?" he demanded, his face red with rage.

Jordan stood up, his eyes flashing with defiance. "Hey, dude, your slut is going mad. Don't tell me you're joining her," he sneered.

Frank's face twisted in anger, and he pushed Jordan. Jordan didn't hesitate, punching Frank in the face. The two boys began to fight, but Frank suddenly stopped, his eyes fixed on some unseen point.

Jordan's taunts continued, his voice dripping with malice. "What can you do, you spoiled brat? You couldn't even take David Hugo. Let's go, baby."

The pair left, leaving Frank sitting on the floor, his head in his hands.

At the Hugos, the group was huddled around the radio, waiting for news. Fred's voice crackled over the line. "Chief, we've found three houses, but only one is very old."

John's eyes locked onto the radio. "How many years?"

Fred's response was prompt. "15 years."

As John, Sarah, and David left, Apollo turned to IZ with a reassuring smile. "Sorry, Iz. We never leave a friend behind," he said, his voice filled with conviction.

Owen nodded in agreement. "Yes, we'll stick together," he added, his eyes shining with determination.

IZ's face broke into a warm smile as she hugged her friends tightly. "I'm also sorry about what I said about Rose. I think she's cute," she said, her voice muffled against their shoulders.

The trio laughed, the tension momentarily broken.

Meanwhile, in a dark and foreboding basement, The Grabber emerged from the shadows. Charles's eyes fluttered open, and he was met with a wave of fear.

"Please let me go," Charles begged, his voice shaking. "My mum, she'll give you everything you want."

The Grabber's laughter was maniacal, sending chills down Charles's spine. "Charles, your mum doesn't have anything to give me," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "Your mum doesn't have anything to give me... but you do."

Charles's eyes widened in confusion. "What?" he stammered, his voice barely audible.

The Grabber's eyes locked onto Charles's, his gaze piercing. "YOU!" he exclaimed, his voice echoing through the basement.

With a sudden movement, The Grabber placed his hands on Charles's head, and a dark presence invaded the young boy's mind. The scene faded to black as Charles's screams echoed through the darkness.
