Chapter:2 Heart on the 10th Floor

The moving truck finally rumbled away, leaving Caleb and Max surrounded by half-open boxes, tangled cables, and an empty pizza box that had already become their dinner table.

“Home sweet disaster,” Max muttered, kicking aside a pile of clothes.

But Caleb wasn’t listening. He was standing by the window, staring outside with wide eyes and an expression that screamed disbelief.

“Max…” he whispered. “You won’t believe this.”

Max looked up lazily. “What? The Wi-Fi already broke?”

Caleb pointed out the window, heart racing. Down below, in the yard of a sleek mansion, was him. The same man from the other day — tall, black-haired, and grumpy as ever, sitting under the afternoon light, eyes fixed on his laptop.

“Max… it’s him. The guy I almost crashed into!” Caleb said, voice a mix of excitement and panic. “He’s literally right there! Right under my window!”

Max dragged himself to the window, squinting. “...You mean that old guy?”

Caleb gasped dramatically. “He’s not old! He’s… mature. Handsome. Mysterious!”

Max groaned. “Yeah, sure. Your sugar daddy is here, now stop drooling over him and start unpacking your things, Mr. Lover Boy.”

Caleb ignored him completely, pressing his face to the glass. “I can’t believe this… destiny’s working overtime! We met once, and now I literally live across from him? Max, this is a sign.”

Max sighed, collapsing onto a pile of clothes. “Yeah, a sign that the universe wants me to suffer through your romantic delusions.”

But Caleb barely heard him. His heart was thumping as he watched Callisto adjust his laptop and take a sip of coffee — calm, serious, totally unaware of the flustered redhead spying from ten floors above.

“Grumpy and perfect,” Caleb murmured with a grin. “He’s definitely the one.”

“Definitely the one who’s gonna call the cops if you keep staring,” Max said, throwing a pillow at him.

Caleb just laughed, brushing it off. “You’ll see, Max. Destiny’s not done with us yet.”

Caleb finally tore his gaze away from the window and turned to the mountain of boxes.

“Alright… let’s get this mess sorted,” Max said, already grabbing a box labeled Kitchen Stuff.

Caleb nodded, but as he opened his first box, his mind wandered back to the mansion down the hill. He could still see Callisto sitting at that outdoor desk, so calm, so… grumpy-hot.

Okay… how would I even… approach him? Caleb thought, biting his lip. Maybe I could ‘accidentally’ bump into him again. Or… he could be carrying something heavy and I’d heroically help… yes, yes! That would totally work.

Max, meanwhile, was busy trying to figure out the wobbly coffee table. “Caleb… are you even paying attention?”

Caleb snapped back to reality, blushing. “Uh… yeah, yeah! I’m… thinking… about organizing the kitchen first!”

Max raised an eyebrow. “Uh-huh… sure. Or maybe you’re planning your next move on Mister Grumpy-From-Afar?”

Caleb’s grin slipped a little, sheepish but dreamy. “Maybe… just a tiny bit. Destiny wants us to meet again, Max. I can feel it.”

Max groaned dramatically, dropping a cushion on the floor. “Destiny? Really? Dude… you’re living ten floors up, staring at your crush like a weirdo, and calling it destiny. You’re hopeless.”

Caleb ignored him, shuffling another box aside. I just need the perfect plan… something clever, something bold… something that’ll make him notice me without him realizing I’m totally crushing…

Max muttered under his breath, “Or you could just… not get arrested by falling out the window while staring. That’s a plan too.”

Caleb laughed softly, imagining all the ways he could bump into Callisto again—each more ridiculous and flirty than the last. His cheeks warmed as he unpacked, and for the first time, the mess of boxes didn’t bother him at all.

Destiny… I’m ready for you.
